Steve Perry is the real reason why the Band known as Journey became as famous as they were back in the day .
@katherinehall1967 Жыл бұрын
True. Before him, Journey was a fairly decent band of California hippies playing music, but they didn't really have real brand or a unique sound. Steve's voice catapulted them to heights they probably had never dreamed of. Someone found an old audio recording of the first time he sang for them. I think it was some beach festival. 🤔 Anyway, the crowd went nuts. I like Arnel Piñeda, I've got nothing against him, but when they got rid of Steve and replaced him with Arnel, who was a Journey tribute band singer -- sadly, they became their own tribute band. I don't even know if they wrote new music or not. All I ever heard them do is rehash songs that Steve made hits. 🤷🏻♀️ When Steve was no longer there, I stopped paying attention. Voice of an angel.
@shirleyjohnson41879 ай бұрын
You said it brother and sister!! There is no journey like Steve Perry!! Never gonna be another. Arnel is okay but he ain't Steve. Period. Arnel is okay but he didn't make journey what is was back then. He could record new material but they haven't unless you count the movie with after all these years.... good movie and song but where are the other new songs. Non existent. So journey feeds off the songs of the past that Steve Perry sang. They are good songs. Love the but I desire for lots of new stuff.
@sandrasillery44939 ай бұрын
I agree with all of you. I'd like to add that they feed off of a lot of songs that Steve wrote or co-wrote as well. Steve Perry did indeed take Journey to their height of fame. They are who they are today because of him, and they owe their success to him. Having said that, I want to say that Arnel Pineda is and always has been, one of Steve's biggest fans, and I am truly happy for his rags to riches story. Still, Journey is only Journey to me with Steve "The Voice" Perry! There are none who can match his voice and superb vocal talent. He is a rare form of counter tenor. A tenor-altino. At least in his younger years. Steve is now 75 years old. None of us at that age are the same as we were in our younger years , but he still sounds great to me.❤ Love me some Steve Perry!
@sandrasillery44939 ай бұрын

@@MyOneFiftiethOfADollar Excuse me?! The power alone in Steve Perry's voice puts Karen's to silence. Please do not be petty and throw out a pretty voice up against Steve when he is so much more in every way. Pretty voices are a dime a dozen. As well as being a composer, Steve's voice is a once in a lifetime many faceted miracle of beauty, power, depth, range, emotion, strength, control, vibrancy, variety, etc, etc, etc. As to Karen, she did not even want to be a singer and called herself a drummer, which was her passion. Steve was well known and accepted as one or the top rock and roll/pop singer of all time.
@MyOneFiftiethOfADollar Жыл бұрын
@@mvies77 I excuse you for your excessive and overt hero worship. I encourage you to pursue pastimes and hobbies that will allow you to focus on your own accomplishments rather than living vicariously through the achievements of others. "Steve's voice is a once in a lifetime" Karen's voice is once in a millennia. The drummer BS you found during 1 minute Google search does not negate her mellifluous voice. Your specious "reasoning" that a drummer cannot become an epochal singer as Karen did, needs to be corrected. Arnold Pineda can match “your Steve” note for note.
@mvies77 Жыл бұрын
@@MyOneFiftiethOfADollar Here we go. But you can waste your time and words and feel superior which makes you stupid for haranguing on me . He sounds weak and empty. But you keep your little guy. Perry will always reign and is considered still by everyone to be one of if not the greatest rock and roll/pop singer ever. What else could it possibly be, after 30 years, I've never met him, seen him in concert and I just can't get enough of that voice. From then and now, he's like a damn drug and I am addicted. I've heard an awful lot of music and different musicians in my life and not one has affected me the way he has with the way he puts his whole heart and soul into every single thing he's ever done. If Jesus, The Christ, wanted to sing, he would use Steve Perry's voice to do it, because he invented it. He created it to be indelible, and imbued it with a perfect phenomenologically charismatically incontrovertible sound.

Here are the lyrics: Lying beside you Here in the dark Feeling your heartbeat with mine Softly you whisper You're so sincere How could our love be so blind? We sailed on together We drifted apart And here you are By my side So now I come to you With open arms Nothing to hide Believe what I say So here I am With open arms Hoping you'll see What your love means to me Open arms Living without you Living alone This empty house seems so cold Wanting to hold you Wanting you near How much I wanted you home But now that you've come back Turned night into day I need you to stay So now I come to you With open arms Nothing to hide Believe what I say So here I am With open arms Hoping you'll see What your love means to me Open arms By Journey

George Ibrahim I’m in Australia and have seen him in concert. Amazing. Remember he was given a huge bouquet of flowers for his wife that made him look minuscule. He not only bent down to get them but carried them offstage without skipping a beat and sounding perfect. Absolutely effortless. Funny you mention Help, because whenever I see posts about covers of famous songs I always say that his version is far superior. Can I give you a recommendation, not sure if you remember Jack Jones (Irwin Thomas) from Southern Sons, he also played with John in the 90’s. Incredible live and still gigging and is available on social media platforms. Look up a performance of “I am found” from Carols by Candlelight on youtube.... 👍🏼

This song is incredible....and so is Steve Perry. There is nobody more authentic than he is. Steve Perry's voice is as deep and smooth as he is. Just a beautiful man full of authenticity and emotion, who was bold enough to walk away to work on himself in recovery. He got so much shit for it, but don't ALL OF US TAKE SHIT IF WE CHOOSE TO BE AUTHENTIC.

Amen to that!! His voice touches the deepest recesses of my soul. There’s been a lot said about why he left the group when he did. I imagine the other members of the band weren’t happy about it, and the fans were likely upset, too. There may still be bad blood with the bad. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was so sad. Thinking about it now, though, I believe in my heart that it was absolutely the right thing for him to do. Stopping when he did saved his voice and likely saved his life. It was a gutsy, incredibly smart move to make. It amazes me that he had the foresight to do what he did, and I commend him for it. I’m glad he’s still around to grace us with that beautiful voice when he’s so moved to do so! ❤️
