Steve wrote this song about 5 years before joining Journey while on a trip to lake Tahoe. People forget what a great songwriter Steve is. 🙂. He has such a soulful voice. Melting Chocolate! Excellent description!

Vocal acrobatics - try 'Lay it Down' from the Escape album. Crazy extreme vocal by Perry. People have tried to cover this but no one comes close.

I firmly believe that Steve Perry is the greatest singer ever in rock/pop, male and/or female. Period. Today, it's Angelina Jordan. But I think Steve Perry, in his early Journey years (1978-1980) was even better than Angelina, which is astounding to say. That's why he is referred to as the Voice (thanks, Bon Jovi for coining that because it's so true.) None greater, for TRUE vocal mastery. Just go listen to Journey live Patiently 1978 or 1979.

One of my favorites. Steve/Journey have many songs showcasing Steve's vocal acrobatics. Steve's range is phenomenal, and he can go from one extreme to the next like water without screaming like many artists do. I don't know if you know, but Steve's voice is studied in universities.

I am so glad you're exploring pre-escape Journey before Greg Rollie's departure. In my opinion, this is where they excel. Check out I'm Crying, Precious time, Where Were You and People and Places from the Departure Album. Steve Perry sings his ass off and the band is just incredible. It warms my heart to hear you rave about Steve Perry's one of a kind voice.

One of my favorite journey songs, had the album at 15, saw them in concert that year, 1979. I believe I was 14 at the show. They were absolutely great. But Steve Perry. Oh man, we were in shock, he was better live than on the record. A gift from God. Heavenly.

Yes, that's how "Sweat And Simple" it can be to deliver such a beautiful song🥰. Without big razzmatazz, but spiced up with amazing surprises and just enough soul and jazz vibes that it's not too much. And that just goes to show how diverse these brilliant artists are. But I'm convinced that not many artists are able to transport a song in this way😉. Loved seeing your facial expressions when Steve did this vocal acrobatics. Great reaction HAP and fantastic choice Debra S.🥰🙋🏻‍♀️.

Another great reaction Hap! So happy to see you still enjoying diving into Journey and Steve Perry. Requested it before but worth a try again, you should definitely react to Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever from the Raised on Radio album. One of my all time favorites. It was from the last tour that Journey did with Steve Perry and is an amazing Power Ballad. Steve’s vocal range as well as his silky smooth voice are absolutely over the top in this song. It was the last Concert I attended with Steve as the frontman and was a night that I definitely wished Would Go On Forever! LOL! See what I did there🤣Keep enjoying the ride, you’ll never regret it♥️♥️♥️

Sweet and Simple is one of the songs listed by some vocal coaches as having one of the most impossible notes to sing. Then Steve does it seemingly effortlessly. Steve came before Mariah and Whitney so they can be compared to him but it's impossible to compare Steve to anyone , he's one in one a million.

Thanks so much for reacting to this. What a great song. I could not lay down and listen to this at all. I used to go running to this album playing it on my old Sony Walkman cassette player. Me again, They bought Randy Jackson in on Bass, yes the Randy Jackson of Americas Got Talent Judge, apparently he is an amazing Bassist and toured with Journey, Raised On Radio Tour 1986. I’m always annoyed by people who judge Journey based on their hits. Their deep tracks are just as good imho and you don’t fully understand what they’re capable of if you haven’t dug deep into their catalog. So glad you have, hope you keep it up! Natural Thing is a soul/Aretha Franklin vibe song too so you might like it as well.

At some point if there's time in your life to squeeze in Feeling That Way and Anytime. These songs were fully or partly made when Perry arrived to the band, then they were turned into duets with Perry and Rolie. The instrumentals have more of a jam session quality than the songs that are Perry-focused.

If you think Steve Perry's Vocals are amazing on this Song, listen to his Song "Anyway." It exceeds Vocals most Women can reach, and Yes, can compare to the Highs of Mariah Carey. Thank you for featuring "Sweet and Simple," which I consider to be a "True Classic" where Rock Bands are considered. I love the smooth Perry Intro, the Beautiful Journey Bandmates Acapella Harmonies, built up with Drummer Steve Smith, Neal Schon's Guitar and Ross Valory's Bass; fulfilling their Musical expertise to a "Grand Finale" of Superb Steve Perry/Journey Fashion. It's absolutely fantastic. I love it! Thanks again for sharing! 😉 💜🎙🎵 🙋‍♀️ 💯

Wellll, needless to say, when Mariah gets up into that dog whistle, ear/brai- piercing thing she does, it's undeniably higher than anything Steve Perry can do. BUT, I always thought it had absolutely no quality or appeal at all, likely why it was only sprinkled in here and there, I think her and all her handlers knew it too. It was as if the only threw it in like they did to say, "look what SHE can do!" Uh...not impressed...

Steve and Journey go together for me, that’s not too say I don’t still like Journey with Arnel, he has worked his arse off fronting Journey. Neal is the one that has kept Journey going and Jon has also been along for the ride. Journey’s Drummer, Deen Castranovo also does a lot of vocal’s and let me tell you he’s great. They are about to drop a new album. If you want to see Deeno in action, a couple of years ago in which he played the Drums and did most of the vocals and the band was called, Journey Through Time.🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️

This song is like opening a 15 year old bottle of scotch at sunset, the first sent you gently inhale with your eyes closed right after removing the cork , the pour into a fine chrystal glass.. the golden glow and gentle fall of the scotch as it clings to the side as you hold it up to the setting sun. Then the inhale as you let it flow over your tongue..holding it there for a moment before you swallow...then letting the sensation slowly warm your soul from the inside out .
