Foreign fishing fleets stole their lobsters, which drove them to desperation. This is the reason given by poor Somali fishermen who turned into gun-toting pirates mugging giant ships for millions of dollars.
Driving to Puntland requires an armed escort to avoid kidnap. It's a lawless pocket of trouble on the Somali coast. The country' s notorious instability provided an opportunity used shamelessly by the world s fishing fleets. For years, Ali witnessed foreign trawlers stealing the lobsters. They brought ships that stole even stones from the seabed. " Before we were catching about ten tonnes per day but now we are catching three or four hundred kilos per day" says one factory owner.
"Our jobs, our profession as fishermen was stolen from us by these foreign ships." And so Ali and hundreds of others turned to piracy. Over the last twelve months there have been hundreds of attacks, including the hijacking of French yacht Le Ponant. In a much-publicised operation, the French navy freed the hostages and captured the pirates. But a long-term solution to piracy must come from the inside. " An effective anti-piracy force has to be based inside Somalia and come from Somalia, " insists Africa specialist R.Middleton. Only the return of law and order could make that possible.

I worked for a reputed merchant liner operating between Europe to South East Asia and Australia. What you missed here is pirates don't attack every ship, they attack only specific ships. So my question is how come they know which ships is loaded with what goods unless they get the info from shipping office itself and the shipping companies in return of the ransom claim three to four time more insurance. The Somali government was destroyed and their ability to pay their Navy was also destroyed that means that these Pirates are actually the Somali Navy in many cases. The Somali government had ships small ships medium size ships that actually patrolled their waters and when the Somali government was destroyed by US intervention their government completely failed. What is also not mentioned in this video and in my prior statements is another horrific reality if you do investigations yourself as I did you will find this information to be true. The reality is that the United Nations and NATO and the US government and all the western government did not care about the nuclear waste it was brought from Europe and illegally dumped directly off the shore of the entire Somali seashore which destroyed all the fish and chemically contaminated the entire region which is killing the Somali people because they received their money and their food source for their families from the ocean which is now contaminated after the European fishing ships overfished inside Somali territory. This is important because that explains if you think about it whyThese men would take a chance going out to these oceans with the small ships and how would they have the confidence to go so far out into the ocean and less they were actual serious sailors because they cannot see the ocean land from where they were attacking the ships they’re so far away from the land that you literally would have to be a sailor to understand how to get back and had a navigate that ocean in the small ships you would have to have skills. What is sad is that nobody is protecting those people no one is providing him with the resources necessary for their population even though we had no problem going in and marching through and killing their people in Somalia in their own communities if you look at the movieThat is a watered down version of what actually happened we were abducting their people we were marching through the streets we had helicopters we were shooting their families and celebrating as you can see in the movie killing people they did not want people from another country in their country with guns abducting their citizens. What’s worse is what submarines told me because they were there and they are police officers right now they were there and they said that they literally went house to house killing Somali people in their homes by orders because a Marine Colonel was humiliated in Somalia walking on the streets doing a force March and he gave the order and Marines that I know personally went house to house under orders of their marine command to attack the families because they held them accountable for what happened the humiliated this Marine Colonel with feces and urine that was thrown from a window in containers at Marines. The reality is we had already been marching through the streets when Black Hawk down the movie shows you we were driving around going in their homes and businesses and attacking their people taking them hostage and expecting those people in Somalia not to be upset because Americans feel that they should be able to go into your country and abductor citizens? That is Insane.

I do not in anyway condone the actions of the Somalian pirates, but can you imagine at first you try to live a straight life, only to get so little in return no matter how hard you work. And then you see every body around you, passing you by, and the western society appears to have a perfect life, you then would start to wonder when a person from your own country tells you a big story about how to get rich the easy way.
