Brilliant video! :-) The moment that's the most difficult for me on playing with vibrato is when the finger has to press down to get a clean sound, but still the movement forwards and backwards has to be relaxed. Giving pressure to the string immediately creates tension in my hand and then the vibrato is slow and not "round", while when I try to relax, I don't press the string enough to get a clear tone. Also then my fingertip easily slides on the string, losing intonation. It's so difficult to get a relaxed movement while still some kind of force has to be applied and the finger has to be placed on a very precise point...
@JoyLeeViolin3 жыл бұрын
Dear Johannes, you are not alone with this challenges of vibrato learning. I would focus on relaxed vibrato movement first first even if the sound is not perfect. Once it's settles than you can try to place the finger tip with more weight on the finger tip to improve the sound. Happy practising !

I have a problem with my bow sliding up the strings toward the bridge. I've been playing for over a year. I bow straight. It is possible that my elbow moves back a little bit. I'll start at middle contact point while playing a scale and end up near the bridge. I practice in front of a mirror. I'm trying to find something to fix the problem. I'm going to record myself to see exactly what I am doing that is causing it.
@MyRealityIsProof3 жыл бұрын
A follow up to my comment. What you feel isn't always reality. I took some video, and my bow was all of the place. I've got a lot of work to do to straighten out my bow. I have this paper device thing that I made to help me bow straight. It horseshoes over the strings, and has the appropriate folded thickness to match up with the middle contact point. I also, have another thicker piece of paper that goes under the bridge to help the other stay in place. They tuck into the F holes. I thought I share this for others that are struggling with a straight bow.

Thank you so much Always after practicing , I feel so much pain in my first finger ! Is it normal? + I practice 3 hours every day .
@JoyLeeViolin3 жыл бұрын
Dear Razan, 3 hour long practice can be a lot for the muscles and one would feel tired sometimes with some kind of pain. If the pain persists, or grow sharper, I would be careful and see if you can work on placing the finger tips with even lighter pressure. Also if the pain insists, it might be a good idea to check with a medical profession for an advice. All the best to you Razan!

Hello Joy, I would like to ask whether or not it's okay if I only can do arm vibrato. Is it essential that I learn wrist vibrato as well? Is there any difference between the sound outcome of the two? Thank you!
@JoyLeeViolin3 жыл бұрын
Hi Aurel, as long as you can control your vibrato with its speed and width , any types of vibrato(s) will be ok. Happy practising!

After I tuned a string on a violin and tune another one, the string that i tuned earlier becomes out of tune. What can I do to it? (sorry for bad english) I'm a beginner and I don't know how to play violin.
@JoyLeeViolin3 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to hear about that Maynard. I understand that this can be frustrating. You might have to push to pegs inwards harder as you tune. Here is a video about tuning properly. I hope this helps. Happy practising! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZDco6mmnd9mbac
