Stephanie, I made these again for this year's Thanksgiving but this time I used bourbon instead of vanilla and boy was that delicious. I didn't think I could like these pecan squares more than I already did but that little bit of bourbon really took it over the top. Got lots of compliments on these, as always. Yum, yum, yum.

I just did it. But I don't have pecans so I used walnuts (120gr because I like them). I have put maple syrup instead of golden syrup. I mixed half of the nuts with eggs and the other half I sprinkled over the top. Delicious. Thanks for the receipe 😘

I used walnuts and corn syrup. No one noticed they were walnuts and they weren't too sweet.

I made these bars to see if I could substitute them for the pie. They are FABULOUS! My husband said these are better than pie and less messy. I'm serving these for the holidays. Thanks for your video as well. Informative and enjoyable. Easy to follow. You're funny too.

Hi again Stephanie, I posted a message to you 2 days ago, which you kindly replied to about using maple syrup (instead of golden syrup) and mixed nuts (instead of just pecans), as it was all I had in the house at the time, you said this should work, I just had to write back to you, I made them that day and they were stunning! If anyone is undecided about whether or not to make these, please make them, you won’t be disappointed, I made them to freeze to get ahead a little for the holidays and we’ve gone and eaten the whole tray! (Only my husband and I!)..So moist and moreish, I’m making another batch tomorrow, I can’t guarantee they’ll make the freezer either! 🥶…..thank you so much for this amazing recipe…..you’re the best! X🇬🇧💕X

I love when I watch your video and realize I have the ingredients in my kitchen... except for the golden syrup... but I’ve got light corn syrup, and I thought maybe I’d add a touch of maple syrup just for coloring and/or a splash of vanilla! Can’t wait to make these!!! 🥰😋

Just made this, and it was absolutely delicious. I didn't have the cane syrup (and even though it's sold in Texas stores, it is expensive), so I used the corn syrup as suggested (but I used 1/4 dark and 1/4 cup light corn syrup- as many southern pecan pie recipes suggest this method). Also, instead of using 1 tbsp of flour in the mixture, I used 1 1/2 tsp corn starch. I used the vanilla in the crust, too. This is a keeper- because it's very much like a pecan pie- but it uses much less of the amount of ingredients compared to a pie and the portions are so much smaller. I've only come across your channel recently, and I thoroughly enjoy your methodology. Thank you for helping me become a better baker.

Golden Syrup is popular in Australia as well. Though we can get the Lyle brand, we also have our own as sugar cane grows in Australia. The European products if they are not getting their sugar from the Caribbean, the sugar will have been derived from beets. As a child I remember have butter and golden syrup on bread to eat after school, or on a weetbix.
@remlatzargonix13295 жыл бұрын
ophelia dikki ...actually sugar can also be derived from corn, amongst other things. Sugar beets used to be a major source of sugar for some high-latitude regions, but some areas no longer do this since it is cheaper to import, due to the excessively low wages and zero environmental regulations of overseas locales.

I've looked and looked for golden syrup and never could find it. I'm glad I found your Pecan Squares Recipe and now I know where to get golden syrup. I love pecan pie, but it's a bit sweet for me. Maybe this will be just a bit less sweet, but still yummy. I also like the idea of having brown sugar in the short bread. Thank you for this video. I'm ordering golden syrup right now.

We just enjoyed this while still very warm from the oven, topped with whipped cream. My husband's response, "This is really good!" Yes, I agree! Thank you!! I added one tablespoon of maple syrup to a measuring cup, then added light corn syrup to reached the 1/2 cup measurement. Not sure the maple made any difference in such a small quantity, but the finished texture was A+ perfect.

I'm from Canada and something wonderful that I learned is that Louisiana grows sugarcane. So they have real golden syrup and molasses from cane which is the same as the Lyons brand. Makes a big difference from sugar beet molasses which is bitter. British brown sugar is made from cane molasses as well. USA has a forgotten resource in Louisiana, wish they would export it to us. I make my own with the big bags of cane sugar we get from Thailand, lolz Which is alot further away. Sad that your president loves tariffs so much. That won't fix everything. Anyways let's give some love to Louisiana and buy their cane products!

Another little tid-bit about the Golden Syrup, in Australia it was also known as Cocky's Joy (an early Australian cattle farmer was also know as a cocky) because it was eaten by a farmer with a simple hot damper. Nowadays you can have it with crusty fresh bread and butter! PS the pecan squares are beautiful!
