How come you never did a ride test or any info after doing the first battery change? Did that not work? Why install 2 batteries if just installing one with more amps?
@JoediyLab
@JoediyLab 3 жыл бұрын
Due to the battery size, you only get a few more amp hours, the external battery will give more then twice amp hours. I am getting ready to do a distance test on the external battery.

What do you recommend to use when adding a second, auxiliary battety to switch between. What i mean is once the internal battery is depleted, to switch to the second battery by using a switch.
@JoediyLab
@JoediyLab 3 жыл бұрын
If you get an external battery with the same amp hour rating, you do not need a switch. If you get a larger external battery, then a switch on the external battery would work.

Hey Joe! Thanks so much for the great how to videos on adding a second battery. I put mine in with your video running right along side. I have a question though. I put in a 10000 Mah battery, and I have them both plugged in at once. Everything seems fine. Is it ok to just keep both plugged in and go until fully out of power, then just charge both up again? I would rather not run one down, unplug, then plug etc... Do you see any problem with just having both plugged in and running all the way like that?

When I did my testing that is what I did, Because the y cable is going to the controller you should be ok. If you want you can wire in a switch and toggle between batteries. Because each battery has it's own BMS, you want to charge the batteries separately with their own chargers. Great question. Thanks

Great video. Can you make a video on how to charge the two batteries and any precautions? Does the external battery need to be disconnected when charging? Do you charge using the Jetson ac adapter in Jetson port or using the new ac adapter in external battery or separately or same time?
@JoediyLab
@JoediyLab 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I will do a follow-up I would charge the batteries separately, They are rated at different amp hours. When I purchased the extra battery they also sent a separate battery charger. So I would disconnect the external battery and charge then with a charger on each battery. Thanks for the great question

@@JoediyLab thank you! Keep up the great content. Love the detailed explanations! Do you notice any arcing/sparks when connecting the external battery? Is there a problem having two different amp hour batteries connected in parallel?
@JoediyLab
@JoediyLab 3 жыл бұрын
@@soupnazi81 I watched for sparking when I connected the external battery. I did not see any sparking. The batteries were pretty well matched voltage wise. But they do make an anti-spark XT60 connector if you do encounter that issue. The batteries should balance themselves but I would charge the batteries as they approach 50 percent charge on the LED display.

My Jetson electric bike turns on and shows full battery but then immediately turns off, do you know what it could possibly be? At first I thought it might've been because I have a flat tire but I later found out that wasn't the issue, it charges and everything and it shows it's fully charged for about a second but immediately shuts off and doesn't turn on for a while.

How old is your Bolt? Pull the cover, disconnect the battery from the controller. If you have an auto battery, get two wires, connect the + terminal to the red wire on the controller and the - wire from the battery to the black wire on the controller. You can purchase alligator clips and wires from Home Depot. Turn on the ebike and try the throttle. If the motor works, the problem is your battery. If you have the same problem, more than likely it is your controller. Let me know what the results are?

How many more miles do you think you will get an also will this burn out any thing on the bike since the battery is 8 amp hours and the jetson's is 6 amps I think?
@JoediyLab
@JoediyLab 3 жыл бұрын
I going to to some distance testing I will let you know. Increase amp hours increases distance, does not increase voltage, The motor will still only consume what it uses, so nothing will burn out. An increase in voltage will cause the motor to run hotter and yes, you could fry the motor and or the controller. Thanks for the great question.

Good day joe im just asking what if you charge the second battery outside without taking out the connection.

If the batteries are not the same amp rating, you could overcharge the battery with the smaller amp rating. Lithium ion batteries do not do well when overcharged

Do you think it is safe to charge the batteries with 2 separate chargers but leaving them plugged in parallel? To clarify, should I unplug the batteries when charging them separately?
@digiboy2k
@digiboy2k 3 жыл бұрын
Actually if there's a big voltage disparity between the 2 packs of batteries... You can potentially fry one or both of the battery's BMSs. So please check each battery's voltages before plugging them in parallel. Would be much safer run each battery pack separately using a switch or manually re-plugging each battery to the power lead.

Can you combine the charging plugs into one also?
@JoediyLab
@JoediyLab 3 жыл бұрын
Because of the different amp hour rating it would be wise not to. One battery would charge up first and the other battery would still be charging. Each battery has it''s own BMS battery management system. They would not work together, balancing out the batteries. It would also be quicker to charge each battery with it's own charger. Thanks for the great question.

I’m afraid the motor will give out.
@JoediyLab
@JoediyLab 3 жыл бұрын
Adding amp hours will just increase the range, the motor will only consume the amps that it needs. If you increase the voltage, then yes you are increasing the watts and could over heat the motor.

If you use. $40. battery discharge balancer you don’t need to take the risk of starting a fire! Your method of exactly balancing dual connector batteries is very dangerous. Hop you carry good liability insurance for suggesting it! Although I know your hearts in the right place, please don’t suggest things that can hurt people or their property.

John I strictly indicate, in the video, to disconnect the batteries and change them separately.
