It is creepy but also not too hard to understand how he got there. If you really accept that categories we invented for communication only serve to harm people rather than actual utility, it kind of makes sense to think we should just change the categories. Except, my problem is: 1. I think he is very dismissive of the actual utility of traditional man/woman categories. It's certainly more useful than he gives it credit for and is used many times a day. 2. If we change the category to appease those who are unhappy with the category, we will then need a new word for the old category. We would then probably revert to using the old category under its new name. 3. Unless he also believes all categories which make someone unhappy should be altered, this is a double standard. Many short people are not happy about the short/talk category. Yet I don't imagine he would defend breaking that down.

The problem I have with postmodernists is that they can't seem to differentiate between calling the discription of the concept a social construct, and the actual concepts itself that's being described. The categories may be made up, but they're there to represent and simplify real, tangible things that happens. He’s saying that all categories are constructs. Which is like saying all words are made up. It’s true but it’s also missing the point of categories and why they exist. They are useful to humans for usually very obvious reasons. Ironically the idea of deconstructing all categories isn’t useful in the slightest. There are trans people therefore there are no females or males, is an entertaining argument though.

@@rileygrill2369 yes, but he further argues that the binary categories of male/female are not helpful. The construct debate is interesting and very difficult to debunk, although it does seem certain thinks are harder constructs than others, categories of what's cool rather than what's round ect. The question then is if male/female can be more like a category in the sold construction sense rathe Ethan the hard construction sense. Meaning, is it based in relation to nature more than in relation to social patterns. I don't think Thaddeus explained this very well, not that Joe really gave him the chance, but I also think he doesn't give the soft construct case it's due. Instead,.many post modern types take everything to be a form of social construction therefore everything and everyone is malleable which begs the question of why isn't moral sense just as malleable.

His problem with that argument was that "SJW" is a lot of people with differing ideas. He was talking about the type of SJW who think race and gender are intrinsically meaningful. And yeah, they are regressive. Like beyond conservative. Conservative thought wants things to stay they way they are. SJW regressive thought wanted things to go back to the way they used to be. Population segments defined on the basis of easily observable characteristics rather than psychologically meaningful characteristics. It's such an easy way for a ruling class to manipulate people into sides and then control the sides. Makes us all look at people who look like us and take all of our cues from them and from the messaging directed at them. "White people should feel guilty" makes me guilty because I'm white. "Black people underperform" makes my black friend feel victimized just because he's black.
