I was looking for info on how to test the battery on a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 the wife bought at a yard sale for $40 several years ago that sat long enough now that it doesn't recognize or charge the battery. I was not planning on upgrading it, but will save your excellent video in case I ever do. Looks like I probably need a new battery, then to try to turn this little puppy into a diagnostic device for my 04 Mini Cooper S. Thanks for the video. Update: I did buy a new battery but the slow HDD and 1GB memory was too limited to use it as a diagnostic tool so I bought a scanner for that purpose and came back to the video today to install a 250 GB SSD in this little net book. I'm hoping the SSD makes it not so agonizingly slow and maybe useful again. The video made the swap easy.

A Really BIG thanks for this video! This video helped me to dismantle an Archos 10 netbook, with no instructions online whatsoever on how to replace a damaged hard disk.

2020, I came across a few of these notebooks. I think your video was very well done! Good job! Very helpful to get down to that motherboard level. I need to get to the underside to replace the RTC/CMOS battery (inconvenient place for Dell to put it). I've upgraded the memory, I had to load Windows 7 Home Premium but it registered it using the Win 7 Starter Key on the bottom.. No problem. I lost office 2010 Basic but I just put a clone on it. I have a battery, a "For Dell" charger, RTC/CMOS 2032 L-ION BATTERY, 500 GB 2.5" HD all on order. I like this little portable guy.. The free IOBIT Driver Booster does a perfect job getting all of the drivers updated. The Realtek Media Manager would crash so I rolled it back to the driver from the Dell website.. Works great. The Any Drive Cloning device from eBay does a great job of taking it all to a bigger HD.

Great job. Where is the fan - underneath? I'm not even sure the fan is running on mine. It builds up quite a bit of heat by the processors. The system reports it maxes out at 78C, which should be ok I think. But this is the first machine that I'm not sure I'm hearing the fan running. Not a lot of ventilation either.

Hi jrinco11-Happy new year to you & yours! Question.I have my dell mini halfway taken apart looking for the cmos battery & I don't see it.Do you have any clue where it might be & if it looks like a watch battery?I've been looking for video's & pics & about the battery & I haven't found anything. It's like they don't want us to know where it is.(probably)unless I'm missing a site somewhere.Would you happen to know? Thanks!

Do you know how to remove the video adapter that goes from the screen to the motherboard? i'm working on a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 and can't seem to get the video to work again, it works on an external monitor and the screen works on another laptop. So I believe its the video cable, just cant get the cable off to check that problem.

Actually, many people think mac memory is small, so they think all small memory is mac memroy, actually what they are calling mac memory is simply mobile memory, and yes, many types of mac memory work in pc's, mac's ARE pc's, only more expensive.
