A big THANK YOU for the tip on loosening the radiator. I was pulling my hair out trying to get a socket in there to loosen the AC tensioner. Got it loosened and replaced the belts without too much trouble afterwards.
@23hublock14 жыл бұрын
The alternator bolt (top right) bolt needs to be loosened a couple of turns to allow the alternator to pivot downwards, then loosen the adjuster locker and then turn the adjuster. That top right bolt was staring you in the face dying to be loosened a couple of turns that's all. No need then to push down on the alternator hard or hit it with anything.

How loose did you loosen the A/C belt?
@barryjones93622 жыл бұрын
I was wondering whether, in the event that the AC doesn't work anyway and the AC compressor bearing is making that high pitched sound, can the car be safely driven after simply removing the ac belt? That is, does the AC belt drive anything else besides the AC? And also whether the removal of the belt might loosen the tension on the serpentine belt?
@seanbriley-oq8qb Жыл бұрын
Still need an answer on this too
@barryjones9362 Жыл бұрын
@@seanbriley-oq8qb Don't worry. I went ahead and cut off the belt driving the AC for a Subaru. For a 2003 Subaru this belt drives nothing except AC, so cutting it off changed nothing, except to eliminate that metallic whine. If such removal leads to other belts squeaking for lack of tightness, well, retightening them is child's play. Good luck.

Looking at radiator with plastic top I would say you have to replace it too :) (on full aluminium body)

Anyone know why the power steering pump/alternator belt would break after 8 months? I replaced it in May and it was squeaking again 3 months later. Just broke last night. Was my tightening off?

@@refresh77 I'm not totally sure it stayed on for the last year then slipped off (didn't break) I put it back on, started my car and instantly slipped off again. I took it to the shop 4 months ago and they replaced the harmonic balancer. It's fine fine so far

I just replaced my alternator and my accessories belt. At first everything was great but I had a squeak when turning my wheel. After tightening the belt and driving the vehicle my engine revs up to 5k RPMs (only when my heat is on). This has been an issue before but was remedied after replacing the alternator and battery. Anyone else ever experience this issue on an 05 forester? Can’t find any solutions online and am at a loss at this point. I’m going to try and loosen the belt a little but it seems impossible to find the sweet spot to where power steering and heat works. Thanks for any suggestions.

All I need is how to loosen over tight belts..which are hot including pulleys, and you smell hot rubber when operating on any highway. I guess I'm covered, here, for that. Thanks.

Pro tip just remove the 2 top bolts and the whole tensioner piece comes out and you don't need to reach the bottom one

nothing really, you can always cut the belt off entirely with a sharp blade. just did the repair and cant think of any possible reason, sorry if thats not helpful
