Absolutely nothing goes wrong in this video.
Edited by: ‪@SimplyAJ‬
Original Music by: Shelby Leon Wright
Complete Playlist: • Kanto Solo Challenges
Rules and Explanations
Rules: (1) Only use the one Pokémon in Battle, others for HMs are fine. (2) No Items in battle (3) No Glitches* (4) Set Mode (5) No saving in the Elite Four (6) No evasion moves
Badge Boost "Glitch" Explanation: When you collect odd numbered badges the game boosts a stat by 12.5%. Brock gives ATK, Surge DEF, Koga SPE, and Blaine SPC (in game text is wrong). When any of your stats are modified (even by you using a move like Withdraw, or your opponent using Leer) the badge boosts are re-applied. So If you use Swords Dance, you also gain *an additional 12.5% in Speed/Defence/Special (on top of the 12.5% you were supposed to be getting). When you level up, the game corrects this error, and only the non-glitch 12.5% remains. Because of how difficult it is to avoid, I've allowed for it to be exploited, since opponents will spam Leer/Growl anyways, and this way battles are less random. Red/Blue are extremely buggy, so there's always going to be some glitches present, and because of how unavoidable this one is, it is allowed in runs, and considered more like a special Generation 1 mechanic as opposed to a glitch.

Normally I don't think about how Pokemon use the different moves but the image of Machamp digging through the ground like a swimmer is funnier than it probably should be.

Jrose has figured out the patterns that the game uses, which has helped ensure good light/dark balance. Go back to a video like Poliwag, and you’ll see that the colors are awesome, but they’re backwards- what should be dark is light, and Vice versa.

Abusing the Rhydon for badge boosts is the play with the Machamp line, but you need Rest, which not only heals up all your damage from the vicious 1-2 punch of Alakazam and Pidgeot, but lets you stall against the Rhydon for badge boosts too. You instead get rid of Mimic for it, since there's nothing helpful for Machamp to get from it in the champion fight. Hopefully you do remember that for Machop and Machoke, who with their lower stats are especially going to need it for an optimal run. And yes not bothering with Submission was good too, the extra power of it over Earthquake is too marginal for its drawbacks and the biggest threats will resist it anyway, while there are also no Normal types in the endgame, so anything it would hit super-effectively would be covered by RockQuake.

I love the different trade-offs there are for evolved pokemon vs unevolved. -Slow level up group -Limited learned moveset (sometimes) -Later learned moveset -Secondary Typing weakness +Better stats +Bigger TM/HM moveset +Secondary Typing (For bonus stab damage) +Easier Badge Boost Utilization (less interruption from leveling up mid-battle)

Evolved pokemon are always in the same exp group as their base forms, so there's literally no difference in how quick they level up without other modifiers.

We've had runs with Alakazam, Gengar, and Machamp. Now all we need is Golem. I think Golem will have the hardest time out of the 4 trade-evolutions. They are the only one of the set to have 4x weakness, and they have it to 2 types. Bruno could be a threat, but Agatha would be easy. A STAB Earthquake would bulldoze (pun intended) a lot of Pokémon.

I'm fine with you picking Charizard. Nobody would tell you to change the starter for the blastoise run despite blastoise having blizzard, so having a coverage move shouldn't be taken into account. Just picking the starter that has an offensive advantage by type is the way to keep trucking If you *were* to change it, though? Probably venusaur. That means the final battle has pidgeot with wing attack, alakazam, hydro pump gyarados, and if you get past all that, venusaur can potentially use razor leaf. I would say blastoise, but between withdraw cheese and exeggutor sucking in most cases, i think venusaur would be stronger

In runs where you teach Dig to the Pokemon you're using for the solo run, you can just not catch the Paras at all. Just do the Spearow for Farfetch'd in-game trade in Vermillion and have it cover both Cut and Fly. Just a suggestion for the future. Great run overall, and I've been loving the month of Jrose!

Good idea, Though without repels he'll probably come across a Paras anyway so I'm not sure its necessarily faster. Could save having to hunt for one if the RNG choses to hide it though.
