@randumo24 2 ай бұрын
It's not even just that. Being not super strong in any stat is a weakness too. Even though Flareon had a weakness in speed, it was clearly better because of its much superior attack and special. Arcanine didn't just struggle because it didn't have a move, which obviously helps, but because it's stats were lacking oomph on both sides. Only 80 special is dangerously low. There's a reason why it was getting messed up by Cloyster's clamp of all things.

@youtube-kit9450
@youtube-kit9450 11 ай бұрын
They tend to have to overlevel quite a bit because of Misty's Starmie having bubblebeam stonewalling them there. With the level advantage, you will be able to brute force your way through the game... mostly until Lance's Gyarados. And this is mostly because having the rival have Squirtle makes him not have the Gyarados which normally would have hydro pump already from the pokémon tower on, while Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise only has bubble and water gun with withdraw as a 3rd water option, meaning that the type effectiveness barely means anything. Might be interesting if one tried out either rival and looks whether that one Blastoise at the end or the constant Gyarados forcing you to grind time and time again mean the bigger time loss. Anyways, having to wait until beating Blaine to get a better move than Ember (or be in their level 40s/50) instead of getting a powerful move by the time you reach celadon really just absolutely screws over fire types.

Pokemon names are always puns and portmanteaus. In the case of Arcanine, it's a portmanteau of "Arcane" and "Canine." Interestingly enough, using the same logic for Cubone (Kyoo-bone) the name could possibly be a reference to the Japanese word for 'hollow': kubonn which would make the correct pronounciation of Cubone as "coo-Bone"

Your rule set really does a number on evolution stone Pokemon like this. Makes me curious about an evolution line solo run. How much better would it be to start with a Growlithe that you could evolve once it has a good move set?
@OmegaTyrant
@OmegaTyrant Жыл бұрын
Would be worse really; Growlithe doesn't get Flamethrower until _level 50_ , so you're still stuck with Ember until Blaine, but you also don't even start with Ember, getting it at level 18, so Brock is going to now wall you for a while at the beginning. You can get Agility if you hold off evolving until 39, but that isn't going to help against Lance, the main problem holding down Arcanine at the end. Altogether you would just make the first half or more of the game harder, for no time save in the late game to make it at all remotely worthwhile.
@youtube-kit9450
@youtube-kit9450 11 ай бұрын
Yeah. Stone evos in gen 1 often have the first 3-4 moves of the first form from the beginning and way higher stats, and considering how shit the movesets in gen 1 often are, the bigger TM movepools, stats and early access to at least one usable move or two favours the stone evo greatly. The only stone evo that comes to mind that truly just has a dogshit moveset is probably Exeggutor with no grass move access until Erika or the solar beam TM, and even then, Exeggcute was worse.@@OmegaTyrant
@youtube-kit9450
@youtube-kit9450 11 ай бұрын
Honestly, this is less a fault of the stone evo and more a fault of gen 1 having stupid TMs, and one of the biggest problems definitely is that flamethrower not being a TM just majorly screws fire types. Flamethrower is mostly learned in the level 40-50s, and in difference to ice beam and thunderbolt, isn't available at around the 3rd-4th badge. They just should have replaced Razor Wind with Flamethrower as a TM and kept its placement in the rocket hideout, and it'd have been great.

I should have said this in the missingno run but you reminded me at the start when you mentioned the slow level up rate. But you should have used the rare candies the moment you found them instead of saving them because of how missingno levels up. With the high exp required at the start and low exp needed later on it would have been more efficient that way. Using them later on seems less productive since 1 or 2 trainer pokemon is enough for each level.

I really think you could have saved time by running the SS Anne before Misty
@noukan42

It's the one thing i dislike of his videos. Sometimes he pick the wrong strat and just stubbornly waste time and resets on it. And he does not redo runs to attemt a different strat so sometimes a mon just get a worse placement than it deserve.
@DJFracus

@@noukan42 lol going to the SS Anne, then going back to Cerulean for Misty, then going back to Vermillion for Lt. Surge is definitely slower, sorry you think not wasting time is "the wrong strat"

@@DJFracus With dig being what it is he could have gone to vermillion, ran the ship, grabbed the bike voucher, healed and then when back to misty. If he wins, dig back to surge with bike in hand. Personally i think he would have had a better go of it but thats just me. Dont want to argue about strats or anything, its just an idea

My favorite pokemon! I've always pronounced it ar-KA-nine, but I fully understand that your pronunciation is probably right, since it's a canine pokemon. Can't wait to watch this run!

What most people overlook is that the name is actually a DOUBLE pun, since arcane means magic. It's an arcane canine... Arcanine... a magic dog.

hello jrose, i can't wait to see a run with tentacruel, i think it can be very interesting. It Can learn sword dance, but lack of physical move, but still can be good for badge boost, good early mooveset, and amazing stats. If you're good to manage the mooveset to learn the good tm at the good moment, this pokemon can be one of the best !

Also Arcanine has a great design: it looks like a tiger dog. But I think it’s also based on Chinese dragons because it’s white patches of hair looks like wings on Chinese and Japanese mythology dragons.

2nd comment: I tried Growlithe in a solo run, and oh boy, that was a tough one. I kept getting walled by Lance and his Gyarados, so I had to make it consistent up to that point. I came into the League at level 58 or so, after battling almost every trainer in Kanto. I had a really hard time with Lorelei, but she got more and more consistent as time went on. Fortunately Growlithe can learn Dig. I ended up beating the game in 6 hours and 53 minutes, at level 83! Growlithe being in the slow level-up group also didn't help 😅
