For various kinds of heavy and indie stuff, this has beaten any Ampeg sim I have, plus any other sim. It's just really easy to get a good bass tone without much screwing around. Plus you can use your own cab sims, which is crucial. An Ampeg 810 with a 421 an inch and a half off the cone is standard for me. Always works. I send people a clean DI and a Hellraiser track of how I think it should sound, and 90% of the time, people use it. I got it for $30. Best value ever.

what all would I need to be able to use this as my live bass set up?
@RodneyMcG5 жыл бұрын
You would need a laptop or tablet, and interface, and if you're going direct to the board the sound man would need to put you in the monitors, or you would need a power amp and a cabinet if not.

Thx for your reviews, earlier this year I saw your Bassforge RexBrown demo and I bought it in March. I find it great, versatile, agile and as you say loading some custom IRs opens up load of tone possibilities. I agree with the way the streamlined interface makes it easy to quickly achieve a good tone: I also use Amplitube 5 with the Ampeg SVX suite and although very complete it's easier to mess up your tone, there are many levels and variables to constantly adjust the moment you change a single parameter. Since you tried them both, what do you think Hellraiser does timbrically that RexBrown doesn't, or a standout feat in your opinion? I feel RB is a quite complete tool and I often use the standalone app for practising, that's why I still haven't tried this one too so far. Oh yes, a couple of things re. IRs: To me the JST matched cab sounds very similar tonally to the 4x10 Darkglass IRs by Seacow, available for free... Which is not a bad thing, as they both sounds great! Another IR free (donation-ware) collection I love is by Shift Line and shout out to Dr Bonkers' bass IRs too, very good models for very fair pricings - there are loads of guitar cab IRs around but I like perusing for good bass ones. Keep up your good work btw 👍🤟

I find the Hellraiser to be a little more versatile and clearer. I can get more cut and clarity from it. Thanks for the kind words on the channel! I used to use a lot of different IRs, but started making my own recently.

Based on this upload and you mentioning that "if you have to make a thousand tweaks to get something to sound good it's not worth it", I ended up buying this plugin. For me, it sounds like crap right out of "the box". I have a similar direct input tone as you and copied your exact settings from the video and I can't get the loud annoying hissing sound out of the mix. I've tried tweaking all of the settings to no avail. I have this same issue with every single JST plugin. They sound great in uploads, but for whatever reason they are lacking gain and/or are too noisy when I try to use them. Hopefully I didn't just waste $100. A friend of mine that runs a studio is going to come by next month and see if he can figure out what's going on.

I know a lot of people of using these plug-ins and I've never heard of that issue. That's a bummer that you're having a problem. If it isn't a common reported issue, I would have to think it's in the routing somewhere. I think your best bet is to contact jst. Their customer service has been pretty top-notch from my experience. You should be able to get a quick turnaround on it as well. In my experience they are pretty prompt. Good luck with it, I'm sure you'll get it sorted out and be raging in no time.

@@RodneyMcG Thanks for the reply... ever since Google/KZbin took away the notifications for messages (as users), I miss most responses to my comments these days, lol (sad face). I *was able to figure out my biggest issue... and that was my input method. I was trying to figure out which type of interface that I wanted a while back and ended up choosing a Yamaha Mg10xu. With it being a usb interface/mixer combo, I figured it would be even better than a standard usb interface... WRONG, lol. Sometimes having too many bells and whistles is a total detriment to what you are trying to accomplish. I ended up selling the Mg10xu buying a Motu M2 interface and have been having much better luck with the plugins.
