What I dislike about the bodybuilding community is how there’s a lot of people who think that simply getting into your ideal shape is gonna fix your self esteem issues. Mental issues aren’t always correlated with your physique. For example I’ve been lifting weights for years now and I’ve definitely gotten stronger and bigger but my social anxiety isn’t just going to magically go away just because I’m bigger. If the source of your mental pain stems from your physique then perhaps but if not then bodybuilding is by no means a fix. Did it help? Sure but it felt like throwing on a bandaid onto a deeper seeded issue. I’m all for staying in shape and keeping healthy but I think people should understand that it’s not gonna fix all your other problems in life just because you look better than before or because you can lift heavier than before.
@charliecrome2072 жыл бұрын
For sure. It may help mental health for some people to look after their health more, but ultimately a healthy self image shouldn't be tied to external factors.

I love they complained about how unhealthy obesity is and immediately after promoted steroids which are dangerous for your heart, liver, rage issues toward others, and fertility...how is that any healthier
@Drifter19893 жыл бұрын
Depends on the PEDs. TRT or HRT for an example is totally fine when supervised by trained doctors and specialists at healthy dosages. Plenty of people take certain substances not for human consumption just because it leads to muscle growth with negative side effects but those ones are advised against by actual knowledgeable people within the fitness community. The problem with PEDs is that they’re abused by many people who don’t know what they’re doing but some can be used in a healthy manner under medical professionals given those substances are already used for other circumstances. If PEDs weren’t seen as taboo, more people would be educated on it and know what’s healthy and what’s not.
@Rezegn3 жыл бұрын
Bro promoted?
@Kirbystare19923 жыл бұрын
You can abuse both but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say obesity has higher leading cause of death than abusing steroids does. Steroids is optional versus eating is not we have to eat in order to survive. I’m excluding the people dying from hunger it’s obviously not an option for them I’m talking about people who have the means to eat. Obesity is a more pressing matter and I don’t think they promoted it,
@DavidLyles3 жыл бұрын
You know some steroids are naturally created in our bodies right? Increasing the production of those naturally produced steroids isn't really that dangerous if you are careful and taking the right stuff. Just like Arfhat Rana said, it can be dangerous if they take the wrong thing but increasing natural production isn't dangerous at all. Sorta like medicine that increases enzymes that help with constipation or it could even help you produce more eye fluid for people with dry eye. What you eat, how much you eat, when you eat it, and knowing how what you eat affects your bodily functions is enormously helpful. So no, it's not as dangerous as it's often talked about as being.

This conversation was so one sided. Glad that Sasha was there to tip the scale a bit. One of the biggest issues I have with the bodybuilding community is this quick effort at shaming people who are overweight when bodybuilders, TO DATE, die in their late 40's and early 60's. It is NOT a healthy practice of sport, it is NOT a healthy practice for eating and having a relationship with food, it is NOT a healthy practice for your mental health, it is NOT a healthy practice for how you see yourself visually in comparison to others. Margie and the rest of the bodybuilders concluded this conversation (unbeknownst to them) that bodybuilding is about aesthetics and how you look, not how healthy you are. Look at the David Laids (who has fucked his back up so badly he needs injections), look at the bodybuilders here who have admitted they experience body dysmorphic symptoms after shows. What about any of that is better or ok than being overweight.
@mhmhmmhmhm51623 жыл бұрын
Consider the fact that all the bodybuilders who have died in their 20s, 40s or 60s have all been the types that blast gear year-round without doing any bloodwork or using no support drugs. Margie needs a BIG reality check. Steroids are far more dangerous than obesity, certainly not morbid obesity, but taking steroids is far more dangerous than weighing 200 lbs. Unless you are competing in these top bodybuilding competitions, you should NOT be taking anabolics or any PEDs. And they are certainly not self-care, self-care would be eating a balanced diet and getting adequate excercise. And steroids absolutely can make someone more aggressive. And as for Sasha: no, PEDs should not be destigmatized. They are dangerous, no matter if you're abusing them or not

Bulking and cutting is not inherently bad. Bulking doesn't have to be binging on all the junk you can - it can be a small surplus. Cutting also doesn't have to be starving. There are points where I’m sure they can make the change, but it’s 100x harder for them. They’re allowed to be proud of getting as far as they did, until they’re able to make that change. I don’t think it’s anyone’s place to say whether someone cannot be proud to be overweight. That’s their choice and decision to make. If it keeps them going until they’re able to make a change, I don’t think we should take that away or judge them. We shouldn’t take away if someone groups “proud” with being accepting of themselves. Isnt that, in a way, bringing them down? Edit: Sasha, if you ever read this, I just got to the section where you said you almost took your life and I want to say thank you for sharing that and I’m so so so happy you’re here today. You are so so kind ❤️ thank you so much for being so open and leaving such a kind and honest comment. My heart goes out to you, your boyfriend, and his family. Suicide is a permanent solution for an oftentimes temporary problem. But when you’re so deep in your decision to take your own life, it’s hard to imagine getting out of it. I’m sorry that happened and I’m sorry to everyone that was affected. I know he must be missed. ❤️

I think that you're able to feel pride about everything and anything (either by going through harsh situations, or simply by belonging to something), however, you should never use pride as an excuse to stop and say "I'm proud of my body" as you're unhealthy and falling apart, self love is important, but self respect is even more so

I really love Sasha and Daniel. They are both humble and are open minded to different ideas and perspectives. Unfortunately, the rest of the group embodied most of the stereotypes of typical bodybuilders and gym rats. 👎
@dimana_b3 жыл бұрын
what's wrong with that? they didn't seem arrogant, it's just part of the sport to dedicate 100% of yourself, especially if you're making a living out of it.
@dimana_b3 жыл бұрын
@Baby B what made you think they were in "fight mode"? For Margie atleast, as a top 3 Olympia competitor, I don't think her not having this mindset would have the same results. Just like any sport, there isn't really a balance if you wanna be at the top.
@emmabunch-benson47953 жыл бұрын
Yup stereotypical meat heads. Hey stereotypes come from somewhere sometimes. If they’d spend half as much time developing their hearts souls minds and education as they did their bodies, they’d be way better human beings

Sasha and Daniel are the most mentally and emotionally stable in this group. The rest of them are self conscious, broken people with baggage and use bodybuilding as a coping mechanism.
@StoicBehavioR2 жыл бұрын
Daniel starting going to the gym because of girls. I wouldn't call that mentally or emotionally stable. If your going to the gym to improve your body for girls, then you're in the gym for all the wrong reasons.

I'm glad Sasha got through the dark times, she and Daniel sound so sweet & wholesome. Didn't agree with Joseph calling people lazy, there's so much evidence fitness/health is tied to mental health, emotional health, genetics, income & education. He needs to see the bigger picture. Amanda got SUPER real and now I don't feel so alone having my own dysmorphia knowing even bodybuilders have it too.

Yeah, that comment was unfortunate, but it's how a lot of people feel. I think it comes from a lack of understanding of other people's experiences. The "I did it so why can't you", well, because other people have different backgrounds than you and developed different coping mechanisms. Saying "they're lazy" is just avoiding thinking hard about the issue.
@Erin-rg3dw Жыл бұрын
@@kidbrown2010Definitely. I've seen a lot of overweight people cross finish lines at marathons and half marathons and those take months (and often years) of training to prepare for. Serious bodybuilding takes a lot more fine-tuned approach to your lifestyle than many people have the time or money for.

not trying to downplay Margie but like she said, she's been getting prepped for a show in 3 weeks.
