There's no shame in ending up in court- but her court is for violations of probation. Ending up in front of her IS belittling because you couldn't handle or deal with the minimal oversight in life that probation makes on you.

If he only knew--if Judge Boyd has little or nothing to ask or say to a defendant, it's because it is abundantly clear that the defendant is beyond any kind of assistance the court can order and the defendant is going to be doing the maximum of prison time she can order. Judge Boyd is a no-nonsense, no BS judge because she deeply cares about the people who appear in front of her. She wants them to succeed. She wants them to overcome whatever it is that led them into committing whatever crime it was that caused them to appear in her court. It takes an incredible amount of horrible for Judge Boyd to give up on a human being but she's not someone to fool herself about the people she sees in front of her. If they are that horrible, she barely has a word to say to them. I don't expect defendants to comb KZbin to research their judges (although they should!) but the lawyers know each judge and I have no doubt that the lawyers try to prepare each client by coaching them on appropriate behaviour, etc, in court. But even the best defence lawyer can only do so much if the client isn't willing to listen and act on the advice given.

He probably thinks that once the effects of a drug are gone, that they would no longer be traceable. Clearly, he never paid attention in biology class, where you are told that it takes a while until any trace of e.g. a medication or a narcotic gets completely decomposed by the body. He should be glad he wasn't sworn for his statement, or else Perjury in Texas is (at worst) 1 year in county jail and a 4000 Dollar fine. And that's the class A misdemeanour, because there's also aggravated perjury as a third degree felony, punishable with a 2-10 year prison sentence and a 10,000 Dollar fine.

This judge is not to be played with and I'm here for it. If every judge was as intelligent, stern, and no nonsense as her our justice system wouldn't be such a joke. Society tells us that women like Amy Schumer, Cardi B and Lizzo, for example, are "strong" women and they are promoted to young women. This woman (the judge) is what a strong woman actually is. Smart, hardworking, empathetic, modest, family and children oriented, strong morals among other admirable qualities. I only have boys, but if I was ever blessed with a daughter I'd rather have her idolize and look up to a woman like this judge, than any woman propped up today

She's out of control and way over the top. I'm sorry, nothing wrong with no-nonsense judges, this goes beyond that. She's just aggressive, she uses her power and leverage to pry into people's personal lives to berate them and enforce her version of morality, not a legal version, mind you of enforcing the law, but her personal views that an adult child can't accept any remuneration for caring for elderly parents. I understand the viewpoint and she's entitled to think that way, but there is no law about that and to use her legal office to compel other not to just conform to the law but to conform to her moral opinions is an abuse of power.

Probation is the defendant’s second chance to straighten out their lives, not to continue to coddle them so things don’t get better. This judge is doing her job and specifically asks what the court can do to make them successful on probation. If a defendant doesn’t want to follow the court’s orders then off to jail for them, easy peasy. People have come to expect their probation to go along as they please and just wait until the term ends. That is not the definition of probation. I really detest the revolving door that most courts have. If the parents haven’t done their job to prepare their children with life skills then I guess the court system will!
@alyshiakroll15
@alyshiakroll15 8 ай бұрын
@@kayfurlano1462 Yeah that was kinda my point. Our society has sunken so low with this mentality of: criminals are just misunderstood and people 18 and younger shouldn't get serious time no matter how severe the crime. Ignore the victims and law abiding tax paying citizens we're screwing over in the name of "social justice". It's so prevalent that this mentality has infected everything as seemingly minor as television and media to major institutions from the medical field to the Criminal Justice system to the point that seeing a judge do her job with professionalism, empathy and respect while also appropriately sentencing people is so rare that people are in awe of it. Also watching it because it gives them some faith in our system because that's definitely needed nowadays. And it's a real life strong, professional, intelligent woman. Something that is also sadly not normal.

@TM-vs4wt 8 ай бұрын
@@acfiltersrule It appears this individual is battling drug addiction, heavily relying on his elderly parents for support, and resorting to theft to cover any financial shortfalls. Would it be prudent to leave him in the same exact circumstances that exacerbated his troubles? Moreover, Texas law provides a legal framework that allows courts to determine probation conditions. It's essential to acknowledge that agreeing to probation entails surrendering significant freedoms as a trade-off for avoiding imprisonment. Those freedoms include the types of employment that you are allowed to undertake.

She genuinely cares and wants people to get their lives together, but she's also not afraid to come down hard if she recognises she needs to. I don't respect the judges who default to coming down hard nearly as much, but maybe that's just me wanting to see the good in everyone and believing that they deserve a second chance to fuck up and show that they're not serious about themselves *before* they get the book thrown at them 😅

@chilltarts879 We are all like that to some extent. This has been bred into our genetics through millions of years of evolution, millions of years of survivors who were able to adapt to their way of forcing others to do it. persevere. We evolved on a world where resources were scarce and often difficult or dangerous to come by. A world where a safe and easy next meal was never guaranteed. Wasting calories unnecessarily could mean the difference between life or death. We have a natural evolutionary rooted aversion to movement, we want to move only when absolutely necessary. We are extremely comfortable sitting still when there is no pressing need not to. The fact that resources are typically no longer scarce is irrelevant, you are fighting against millions of years of evolution and the fact that things have changed in the past 100 years or so means almost nothing. It would take tens of thousands of years if not hundreds of thousands of years of abundance before evolution would ease up and we wouldn't be so averse to wasing calories on non essential tasks. It pervades all of human history. At the dawn of civilization the institution of slavery swiftly followed but had almost certainly been informally practiced for thousands of generations. Menial work needs to be done, we naturally don't want to do it, if we are jn a position to force someone else to do it...why no? Nature is full of cruelty and exploitation. We only stopped doing it when the economics no lsens made sense. The people with the option not to do the work still didn't do it, they just found a more efficient way of getting others to do it.

Judge B asked him at the start "what have you learnt" - you just know by the way he laughs and fiddles with his paperwork, he is thinking "I just need not to get caught", Judge B is awesome! He does not give off the vibe of a qualified Massage Therapist. Regarding the Meth issue he says he has never had any Drug charges - again all it means is he hasnt gotten caught before....this man needs to understand that actions have consquences.

It would be so much easier to just lock these people up and let them sober up in prison. If that is possible.
@Quagthistle
@Quagthistle 8 ай бұрын
Then what? They'll just get out and run back to the drugs. Getting someone sober doesn't correct the problem that led them to drugs in the first place. It's like a sapling that bends in the wind and it's leaves get soiled with mud. Sure, you can hose off the leaves, but that does NOT correct the weakness in the sapling that allowed it to bend in the first place and the next high wind will just muddy the leaves again. Opiates are particularly troublesome because often there is an underlying reason why they're taking the opiates and many need them to even be able to work in a diminished capacity at all. Without the opiates, they might not even be able to care for themselves, let alone work. And goodness knows that doctors do NOT care about chronic pain. They just shove a few pills down your throat and send you on your way. There's no profit for them in actually curing your pain problem, after all.

Doesn’t work because if they don’t want to change then it doesn’t matter. Once they’re out they’ll just keep using. Can’t help those who won’t help themselves Obviously if they want to change then prison can work, but so can treatment outside. I bet this guy ends up in prison though

I'm gonna be 💯 , I wish I would've had a mom like Judge Boyd. There is no getting past or over her, yet she is fair and I believe she does care about the people that stand before her. I had a tough adult hood making bad decisions and dealing with my own addictions. And I had so much potential. I could've done way better. I did finally turn my life around after getting clean, getting married and having my children. So now I watch these videos and wish I could help these people not get in all this trouble. But they too will have to deal with their consequences and rebuild their lives.
