I raised 3 sons. They were living with me at 18 but they still had a curfew and knew they'd be in big trouble if they broke it! And I raised them alone, after divorcing their alcoholic father. They never got in any trouble and are now successful men with families of their own. I don't buy any of this guy's or his mom's excuses

My parents gifted me with free room and board while I commuted to college daily as a full time student, while working around 30 hours a week in order to pay my own tuition. Even during my Senior year of college, if I was out with friends and it got late, I'd still call my mom to let her know where I was and what my plans were (either an estimate of when I'd be home, or to let her know I was going to sack out where I was). Hell, sometimes one of my friends would make the call, just because they all knew she deserved better than to be wondering where I was when I'd be home! ;)

This “single mother” narrative needs to be dropped. My dad died when I was a kid. My single mom raised 4 kids. Now those kids are a lawyer, a professional ballerina, a PhD economist, and a nurse. Single mom’s aren’t necessarily raising criminals.

I am so tired of the 'I'm a single mom' excuse. There are only 3 excuses for being a 'single mom'....#1. You're a widow #2. You are divorced or #3. You chose to have children, without the benefit of a husband, or any type of a father-figure for the kids, so you CANNOT whine about how 'difficult' it is to be a 'single mom'.

The part I dont get, although the Dude deserves this, I still would assume impact questions like those from the judge should never be asked by the judge unless its a balanced question. This Judge however, shows serious Bias by asking relevant damming factual questions FOR the prosecutor. Thats the Prosecutors job by design. The judge should ALWAYS show balance and blindness absorbing all the facts and not practicing a lawyers job. She is begging for a ruling overturned and bar violations IMO Context: During a trial, judges are presented with evidence; they may ask for additional or other evidence, they may judge evidence as inadmissible, or they may decide to give more (or less) weight to certain pieces of evidence. But here, she (the Judge) was asking relevant Evidencable Questions, and not allowing the opportunity for the Prosecutor. I highly doubt that many people under her rule are given a balanced trial given her approach. Such tasks in the hearing process might be affected by several cognitive biases including the confirmation bias, the hindsight bias, or the conjunction fallacy.

@@trs-80fanclub12 You're thinking about jury trials where it's critical to be impartial. When it's a bench trial or plea deal, the judges are allowed to ask pointed questions to witnesses and lawyers as they'll be deciding , not a jury. She has read up on the case and formed her opinions, and she's giving them a final chance to prove why she'll be wrong to rule against them. It'll be worse if she ruled without giving them a chance to defend themselves.

He uses his grandfather death, which he claims was devastating for him, emotionally...as he claims his grand-dad was his only father figure...yet, rather than honoring his grand-dad's memory and go through life doing the right thing, he uses the death as one of the reasons to do what he did. People, good people, lose family members, endure childhood traumas, but still grow up to be honest good folks. A close friend of mine had been a car repossessor. He said they were always required to open the glove box and trunk and take an inventory of what was in the car. He opened the trunk of one he'd repossessed near Christmas and it was filled with Christmas presents. He took all the presents and went back to the house and left them on the porch, rang the doorbell and left. He quit his job the next day. He was doing a legitimate job but felt horrible enough about this incident to quit. This kid did not even think about anything before he did what he did - he just acted on impulse and now is paying the price for it.

My great grandmother raised NINE kids on her own after she was widowed at the age of 39. All attended school regularly and all got respectable jobs after leaving school and lived respectable lives. People worked hard in those days, didn’t make excuses for bad behaviour, and didn’t whine about needing “parenting classes” and “therapy”.

I'm sure this judge has seen every trick in the book from the people who come in front of her. And this mum was like the age old weeping mother in front of the judge, ('My boy, judge, he's a good boy, don't send my good boy away'). I thought it was interesting that they completely threw the brother/son under the bus to make this guy seem in a better light, and I feel sorry for the aunt and uncle who were also thrown under the bus. Eight years seems fair for what this guy did, and he'll probably not even have to do the full sentence if he behaves himself.

Love this judge. She almost always holds these thought for nobody criminals accountable and she makes them serve the right and justified amount of time. Not 90 days for attempted murder or 5 year’s probation with no prison time. She serves up justice which we sorely need in this country. Too many times we see these people get off way too easy. She doesn’t play that game.

With probation cases, she takes into account if the person is trying to take steps to improve. If the person is taking classes, working to get off drugs, improve the family or following probation requirements, she gives them the help they need to improve. If the person ignores the requirement, lies to the court, continuing drug use, makes excuses and further breaks the law, she gives them jail time. I think that is why she is a great judge, she wants people to improve but recognizes that some just are going to break the law. She give parameters that allow people to get their lives back together but people do need to take steps.
