Right. I feel like shes definitely talked about it to them before and they don't do anything because he's "the baby." Being depressed is a genuine factor to consider, but he has to learn that his mess affects others, especially someone whom you share a bathroom with! That's just teaching him to willfully be inconsiderate. I feel like if you've never truly had to live with someone like that, you don't understand the constant and overwhelming frustration, especially when you go out of your way to not only have a clean space for yourself, but for the other person(s) involved. He's going to have a hard time in relationships. I bet their mom has to do all of the chores. They obviously have favoritism, and i know that for a fact because she's the first born daughter, and he's the "baby" son. So cringe how often that is the case. I honestly don't even feel like what she did was that bad. Having to live with someone who has no care or consideration for you and your space is very emotionally draining, and eventually, they're going to lash out in anger because that's all you've left them with. They tried being considerate, and asking nicely. They've tried being firm and stern. You get what you give, and honestly, his friends, who very well might become his roommates in a few years, deserve to see how their friend treats a shared space. Idk. I don't think it was that harsh. He's 15. He can get a learner's permit to drive, get a job, and vote in 3 years. He can start picking up after himself. That's pathetic, the amount of apathy that he has for their shared space, especially a bathroom, where one has to be a lot. Ain't no way I'm feeling bad for a 15 year old that can't wipe the pee of the seat, or get a piece of toilet paper and wipe his hair out of the sink. I was very depressed at 15, like I feel most 15 year olds are, and I was never doing nasty, inconsiderate things like that that you learn at 5 to correct.

Hey I want to give another perspective with the first story. A lot of times Girls are treated like a second mom while brothers are treated like babies that are helpless. We’ve all heard it “boy will be boys, boys mature slower, boys are messy etc . Y’all saying maybe the brother has depression. (Excusing harmful behavior because of mental illness is a whole other issue) but maybe he’s been raised in a way that he doesn’t see anything wrong with it. Maybe that’s why the parents don’t step in because just like Mac they believe it’s “normal”behavior. Maybe the sister has been told she has to clean while her brother continues to make the mess. Maybe the parents have put her in a position in which she feels like it’s her job to correct the behavior.

I work as a life insurance salesman. A 5mo's life insurance costs less than $10 a month. And it's main purpose is that when the kid is an adult they automatically qualify for 75k in life insurance at lowest possible cost no matter how their health turns out between being 5mo to later in life. It's less than $10 a month to guarantee they'll be able to get it later in life even if they get diagnosed with disqualifying illnesses. Also there's a cash value to life insurance. When kid turns 18 they'll get a good chunk of what you paid into it back for college. For kids, life insurance is about securing their future not their death. It lowers their bills in the future and gives them some money for college

I was gonna say that redditor's response clearly showed they had no idea what they were talking about. "How is it investing for your daughter?" Uh actually if you can afford the life insurance it's a GREAT investment, arguably better than a trust fund. My parents gave me life insurance when I was an infant, I took over the payments when I became an adult, and now I feel secure enough that there is a rainy day fund, help for education or a even a house, and/or later passing on inheritance. The earlier you can get insurance, the better! ETA: I didn't read the OP replies to the post, redditor comment is valid IF the policy turns out to be a scam, which is unfortunately possible esp these days. Early life insurance only works if it's...yknow...legit.

I think the life insurance on the baby is actually smart ... my parents did it for me as a child and after some time the insurance itself started paying for itself and would have saved me ever buying any (if my dad hadnt let it laps). We are low income and it was just for the off chance of death. which would have been over 10k funeral expense during emotionally traumatic event

Just listened to the first story and this is totally a fucked up situation on all ends. Is she wrong for taking action? No. She deserves a clean space and that’s nasty. Did she choose the correct action? Absolutely not. She definitely should have handled it better. Honestly I’m shocked it didn’t solve the problem though Alright I’m on the last story: I think life insurance for a baby is a good idea honestly. She’s right, death can strike at any moment. It’s brutal, yes, but honestly? It’s awesome to be prepared. You don’t HOPE your 5 month old is going to die soon, but in the even that they do, that money is going to be incredibly helpful, especially if they do end up having to plan an early funeral. No parent wants to bury their child, and that money can help them focus of grieving rather than the money to pay for their funeral. Story time: one of my friends died in a car accident, she was 18. They had to make multiple fundraisers to pay for it. They couldn’t even grieve properly because they had to focus on paying for everything. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have life insurance from the start. It’s LIFE insurance, not death insurance 🤷‍♀️

But the main reason why people are so weirded out by the life insurance thing is because why is that the first thing the woman thinks of when thinking about her child possibly dying really early on?? Most people are not worried about money when their child literally dies, they’re worried about funeral arrangements, breaking the news to family and friends, etc. For a lot of people (including myself) it comes off as if she only cares about money. And also (like it’s said in the video), there are better ways to invest in your child’s future than a fucking life insurance. On another note actually, how do you even explain that to the life insurance companies? Do you just go “ah yes we’d like to apply our literal 5 month old kid for life insurance”

If my older brother (23) leaves his facial hair in the sink he gets his told off. If I (21) leave my floss on the sink I get told off. If anyone leaves used razors lying around they get told off. If the youngest (14) leaves his clothes on the floor he gets told off. I don't care if your kids are teens or full ass adults they don't get to dirty up a shared living space. Period. Be the parent. What if the 15-year-old has depression? Get. Him. Help. Once again this is on the parents for not recognising their son's filth as an issue.

The bedroom still honestly counts as her business too tbh since dirty dishes will attract bugs and mice into the home cuz of the food plus the possibility for mold. I'm living a similar situation with my brother and while it may have not been the best way to go about it you have to take into perspective her brother clearly isn't listening to her, her parents aren't doing anything, and she seemingly has no power in the household so the only way reasonably would be to show it to people who's opinions he does care about. Sucks for him but ultimately it's his own fault.

I understand the world itself has bigger problems, but whenever i tell you I have a whole side of unpacked trauma and anger from all of their weight of not doing BARE MINIMUM CHORES put onto me because i'm the girl??? It's deadass a miracle i didn't burn the house down idk. It is every human being's responsibility to clean up after themselves. Eh, not really. In this case, it was just super disrespectful. If you're into dump pot, and casserole sort of situations, try mixing some chicken, broccoli, bacon, ranch, melted cream cheese, and cheddar through some hot buttered rice. Season it up however you want. Admittedly, getting ranch seasoning is better than getting ranch dressing, but both work. It's better than it has any business being.

On the 1st one everyone sucks. I think the parents suck the most though. If they had stepped up and acted as parents she wouldn't have needed to go nuclear. When you share space, you clean up after yourself. Male, female, nonbinary, any age, it does not matter. You might help the little ones, but it is the rule of a healthy society. By doing nothing they are forcing her to live in filth, take on unhealthy gender roles, or to fight back. She fought back, but being 16, didn’t choose the best way. Parents are absolutely the AHs here though. 3rd story: i am a very picky eater. When i went to Indonesia as a teen i did struggle to find food that was not too spicy for my wimpy tongue. I ate what i could though, was grateful, and apologized profusely for being a wimp. I was desperate not to offend. I still probably could have done better, but i never would have just poured store bought American sauce on the food. That feels only a tiny step up from spitting on it. 4th story: i am pro life insurance. I didn't die, but i became chronically ill at 12. I can't imagine how expensive life insurance would be for me now at 37. I can't even afford to check. I would make sure it was a reputable plan, but if i could afford it, i would invest in a life insurance policy for my baby 1000%.

The only one I can personally speak on is the life insurance one (my dad’s been teaching life insurance for 20+ years). Idk where the poster is from, but in my country, it’s cheaper to give your kids life insurance when they’re young before they have any issues that aging brings. My parents got life insurance on my brother and I when we were toddlers and it was stupid how cheap it was because we didn’t have any pre-existing conditions and aren’t usually what insurance companies are looking to cover. So it was only a couple bucks a month and, at least with the policy I have, the price didn’t grow as I aged, so I don’t have to pay some egregious amount of money every month.

I know people who have life insurance at like 18-21. When you have a parent that depends on you because of their health, it makes sense to make sure that they have support in case something happens and you can no longer be there for them. The intention of life insurance is to make sure that if someone dies and they have people who depend on them to live, that those people aren't completely ruined by losing the person they depended on, the way people used to get absolutely ruined when the breadwinner of the family died. So kids don't need life insurance unless their parent depends on them either for physical aid or financially.
@samg6940

Maybe on the surface that should be the case, but dying in modern times is far more expensive than a lot of people can afford. When a sudden unexpected death is going to put thousands of dollars worth of strain on a family, it makes sense to ensure that everyone has a life insurance policy

I mean, id say to keep up on that. Kids should so funerals can be paid, but also, when they get older, they then already have life insurance and won't have to worry. All the parents(good ones) will just have to give custody to the kids when they are older.
@bch7905

Also life insurance payments for an infant is significantly cheaper than for an adult, you save a lot of money early on. I've had it since I was a baby and I took over the payments when I turned 19. I now have the option to cash out some if I need it while I'm living or save until I'm old and I can pass it on as inheritance or funeral costs. And yes it can also be used for education!

the first verdict is 100% NTA, the girl is being treated as a surrogate mother for this boy by his parents and by mac now ig, she reacted in a childish way because she IS a child and shouldnt have to tell her own brother to clean up for himself, thats the parent's job!!! favoritism/infantilization of brothers over sisters is a HUGE problem & creates boys who are completely dependent on a mother-figure & girls that think the world is on her shoulders.

Getting life insurance for a baby isn't really about getting the payout in the event that they die (in most cases). It's about securing a low rate and ensuring benefits that don't have to do with death (like early payouts if you become disabled). The older you are, the more likely you are to have health issues that will either limit benefits, skyrocket price, or completely disqualify you. That said, it all depends on the plan she was looking at. There are a lot of scam policies.

He has friends (which is typically hard for people with depression to maintain) and he's able to take care of his personal hygiene without issue, if anything he's doing more for his hygiene than what's typically expected. He's just not picking up after himself and that screams entitled more than depressed. I agree with what she did and he should've gotten punished even after that he's 15 not 5.

Insurance story, I can't relate with the insurance in us. My mama got me and my brother life and health insurance the moment we got out of her womb. She's an insurance agent and just knew which insurance we needed and we were so glad she did it. My mama has asthma and my papa has high blood pressure, so looking at their health condition it was needed. I was epileptic when I was a toddler and had to spend half of my childhood in hospital. The insurance my mama took saved me. Edit: I just remember that in some companies they won't sell you health insurance policy without you already purchasing life insurance policy. And also, the younger the client usually the cheaper the cost because you can choose a longer payment plan, some companies also limit their clients age usually 65 max, and they also can reject you if you or your family history have chronic illnesses. Educational insurance is usually just a saving plan, so basically insurance companies just help you to save money by planning when you're supposed to save some money.

insurance rep over here, Mac✋🏾 Its actually ALOT cheaper the younger you are. Its very common misconception to wait till you need it when you are older. Its actually the worse time to get it because its more expensive the older we get. Its supposed to be a death benefit. Garber is still around but insurance companies provide cheaper options. YES, MAC do more reddit stories on your channel. I love your energy SO much🥲🥲

Mac and Ify are by far my favourite guests on Smosh. Both are so unhinged 😂 Shayne gets along so well with them. Its honestly a joy to watch

Also life insurance as infant is a great idea. I am chronically and my health issues started soon after birth if my grandmother hadn't gotten me life insurance right after I was born I would never qualify. Now my loved ones can rest easy about paying for my death.
