A topic in Judo that is often overlooked iny opinion, as it's the unique thing Judo has besides throwing

Whoa. I've watched most of your other grip fighting videos, but the tl;dr review from 1:00-2:00 was such a good encapsulation of those concepts. The rest of the video was boss too :)

"It's not that basic, but it's pretty basic." Very well put!

Just wow on the gripping baits you showed. Totally underrated and should be uchikomi-ed. Do you have any more of those to share? I would buy a DVD on just this topic

Cross grip is love. I try to pretty much always get a cross sleeve and belt grip whenever I can.

When restarting judo, I recall the first post match lecture of our 6e dan trainer ( still the same 20 years later! ) - we were all too weak with kumi kata, just delivering our sleaves to the oponent... These vids, call em basic technic or not, are helping a lot in the first stage of the fight, win in the kumi kata, try win tachi-waza, finish either way ne-waza. Bushido! :D

Any tips on that initial parry for when they take the bait? It often feels difficult to react to their going for grips on me. Or is it definitely a reflex thing? If so, then should I adopt a more aggressive style rather than a counterattack/bait type of game?

I have no clue whether this will work for you, but you can do touch sparring and try to block your partner's punches. If you can parry a glove, you can block a grip attempt. Just have 1 guy go for the other's shoulders/upper torso and the other guy should try to parry his every strike as soon as he starts it. Without gloves a parry could also be a grab as well. You can also just do more randori, but I feel this will be more fast paced.
