Ah-ah, time to fit that boost gauge that's been kicking around. Happy to report that in true maintenance principles, I left the dashboard worse than I found it!

Hi Derek, I would have put it on the waste gate feed. That way you know when your boost solenoid has failed. I take it the next video will be on increase the booooooost pressure, can be done if you are not toooo greedy.

Ah the old put it on the waste gate ploy! Could be a good spot for another gauge?

Did you not fancy putting the tube through the bulkhead where the wiring-loom comes through, near the steering column? TBH, I put off connecting my split-charge system for months because I didn't fancy wrestling with all the wires, and the insulation tape, but once I "grasped the nettle" it makes for a superb point to poke things through the bulkhead. I'm in a similar situation to you. It started with me buying an EGR-Delete kit, which included a threaded plate for an EGT sensor, so I bought one of those gauge-pods for the A-pillar but that has THREE holes in it for gauges so I've got the EGT gauge in one and I have no clue what to stick in the other holes. I DID see a fancy OBD2 gauge-thing on eBay which'd be nice but... the D2 isn't OBD2 compliant so it probably wouldn't work. I figure a boost gauge and, maybe, an oil temperature gauge as well? As a rule I just never go above 2000rpm until the engine's up to temperature because I don't like the idea of the turbo having to rely on cold oil for lubrication so I figure a proper oil temp' gauge would provide useful information. Alternatively, I was thinking about an oil pressure gauge but, from experience, I usually find that having an oil pressure gauge just causes paranoia because you're constantly watching it in case the pressure drops.

Yes, all good points. I hate revving a cold engine. The route through the passenger side bulkhead seemed to be the shortest, but as someone pointed out, fitting the pipe to the intake manifold might have been better. Too late now! It's handy having the temp sensor though.

Fitting a boost gauge on my Defender is much easier than your Disco, the tube was so easy to pass through from the binnacle to the engine bay, as for your position to attach the tube, its ok, but i fitted mine in the end of the intake manifold closest to the bulk head, this position gives a more accurate reading of boost, you will find you see the boost build when your driving, not when your revving it at stand still, anything between 18-20psi will be normal.

Cheers David! Yes, probably better but I'm all for an easy life. New vid to follow.
