Just read his The Caesars and found this line in it: “For some of these, when they might have remained quiet and not taken the field, kept making one war an excuse for the next, like quarrelsome people and their lawsuits; and so they perished in their campaigns”. How ironic

And so poor Julian wrote his own epitaph.

Yes, something doesn't jive with this and the subsequent events, at least the conquest seems to perhaps have more complex of a background than what we may "know" from available source(s). I tend to feel it is very much a cautious course of thought to take what we have been given for ancient figures with a grain of salt. I wonder for example how much popularism might have been involved in the decision to mount a new campaign. perhaps this was an attempt to regain favour and trust in Antioch?

Maybe commented in previous Julian video, but Gore Vidal's novel "Julian" is an interesting read of historical fiction.

Julian was the Roman emperor for a short time. If he had been emperor for more than ten years, he would have become an emperor even bigger than Constantine the Great. But Julian was not lucky and ruled only for a short .time

Ah, okay. Sorry, keep up the good work! I'd love to see more videos about Julian, as well. There's so much ground to cover.

Somehow you didn't mention the part of Julian allowing the Jews to reassemble the Senhadrin and even to start to build the third temple.

There probably weren’t many rich kids wanting to live like Cynics.

Probably not, but all it takes is for one attractive young aristocratic girl going Cynic to set the city's elite on edge about these degenerates on the streets corrupting the youth.

It is included in one of the three Loeb volumes covering Julian's surviving works. Outside of that, I'm not sure where it has been translated and printed.
