@cariceanderson59953 жыл бұрын
@@mahld_Opulence I don’t mind at all. Yes, all the time. It is usually a topic of conversation. People want to know why you left the USA to come to South Africa and how you are finding SA. People also want to make sure you’re really American and not just an uppity South African who doesn’t want to speak vernacular. I had a great experience there. It really broadened my horizons and perspective. I met fantastic people, got a book publishing deal and my book was released earlier this year. SA has its challenges like any country. I was tired of dealing with those challenges and I was ready to be closer to family.

@@cariceanderson5995💯 And yes 😂its almost a thing, to "Verify" one's American😂It's the funniest when it's the kids awe and disbelief , When faced w an American This totally reminds me of an experience one time last year, I was in a taxi (I'm sure you're aware these are mini busses) and I normally speak with my people in vernacular not English, So I handed notes to him and said it R15 and he said he didn't understand and I'm like "what" 😂 how don't you understand, you Black. HE THEN CORRECTED ME and said no he's from the states, I laughed, Not because he's American or whatever but because the moment I speak vernacular I have to now speak English and when I speak English I'm constantly reminded I'm black and should speak mother tongue 😝 And there after that little second or two we conversed the whole way, I asked him questions as to what he's doing here(not being rude in Any way, Just out of interest) and he kindly laughed and said he was doing business this side, Flipping houses with his dad, So his dad was S.AFRICAN and his mama was American. So he was doing family business duties. At one point he himself stated which part of N.JERSEY he's from, Because he felt it was necessary for him to say it so people don't think he's just some random person claiming to be from the states without any clue of what they saying. So that was my experience... It's always so fascinating and cool to interact w Americans or any person who's not from my native country generally, just two completely different cultures coming into one conversation.

Nice comment 😊 In a perfect world that would be ideal, unfortunately when you are black things happen to you regardless of your mindset (positive and so forth)...experiences, attitudes from others, the way things are set up...etc constantly communicate to you that you are 'less than' especially in specific regions of the world. And then there are other places where that energy is absent and you don't have a need to navigate or work around it. He obviously feels that energy lifted off in the motherland and that's beautiful.

That is a beautiful feeling. That's why I went to an HBCU. It was a great by-product of the experience. You're editing is great. Grocery shopping there is like going to dollar tree in the states in terms of pricing. Child, I would be buying $2,000 USD worth of groceries to last for 6 months 🤣🤣🤣

I spend around R3000 ($208) on groceries per month 😄, so $2000 (R28 747) worth of groceries would last 6 - 7 months for someone living on their own.
