I met them as a teenager when they were touring on Take This To Your Grave, they were opening for Punchline at a venue called the Hangout in Edinboro, PA. Loved Punchline at the time and they were the much bigger act but honestly FB mopped the stage with the other bands on the bill. I was lurking around their merch table and Pete Wentz legit gave me a t shirt and a copy of that album, prob cause he could tell I had no money. Within a year or so they’d become one of the biggest bands in the world. Pretty cool

I'm sorry but wtf are you talking about lmfao. headfirst slide is highly favored by most fob fans. As a matter of fact, it is so loved that they made it a staple in the setlist due to the fans harping about needing it live. It was literally constantly getting asked about. And adding a deep cut from 15 years ago to a setlist is a clear indication it's highly rated. When people talk about folie, which i don't hear anyone hate on it anymore, the vast majority of listeners list headfirst slide as their number one or top three at the very least. I think people like you just throw the word "underrated" out of nowhere without thinking about what you're saying lol. Then, you say "unbelievably?" Yeah, no lmfao. maybe it WAS underrated 15 years ago, but now? no shot 🥴.@@s1rensooong

I put Folie A Deux very very high in my top ten favorite albums maybe even at the top. Not many albums have ever made me cry but this one sure deserved the tears that were shed. Thank you for sharing your appreciation for MANIA. I totally understand why people may not like it, but I really dislike the vitriol FOB get for it. I don't like every song on MANIA, but the ones that I do really get me in the chest. It truly feels like FOB taking on so many genres in their own way. It feels like total experimentation and it's infectious. It's totally different and it's fucking awesome. Also Church is on it, and that's my favourite song. I'm biased. Edit: omg you also love Church. THANK YOU.

I was 15 when Take This To Your Grave came out and it absolutely changed my life. I had never heard anything quite like it... As an emotional, angsty, artistic teenager from the Midwest who experienced a lot of loss and felt super alone during childhood, I had never felt SO SEEN by lyrics in my life, and yet so safe in the pop punk high energy melodies. It was like reckless permission to feel whatever you're feeling with fearless honesty, encouragement, and unconditional acceptance. It was so freeing for me at that time! I know that's a lot of diff music for diff people. But I cannot imagine not having that album at the time in my life. So I totally get what you were saying about it, but I think for others my age, holy shit it was suuuuch a gift!!! So I would've placed it higher for that reason even if I wouldn't say it was their absolute best. But ugh, still so good to me!

Yeah, a lot of people's rankings will revolve around when they, personally, were introduced to the band and I'm no different--TTTYG was the first album of theirs I ever heard. I remember someone recommending I download a couple tracks off of Limewire (or Napster...I don't remember which I was using at the time) and I was blown away. I found a place online to order their album (even though I had every track--I wanted to support this bad ass band that was just getting started) and that CD didn't leave my car player for over a year. Went and saw them live, met them and chatted for a bit (they're all nice but Andy was next level nice--even walked us out to thank us for coming--they were the opening band with only about 20 people there when they played). That album and that band were special and unique at the time--the popular pop punk bands on the radio were, mostly, bands with silly lyrics and, usually, lead singers that tended to be nasally (Blink, NFG, etc.--bands I love, don't get me wrong). FOB had a singer with some chops/range that gave a little bit of a soulful sound to the songs. The lyrics were clever, self deprecating, and over the top bitter/angry and those are paired with upbeat, fast, heart pumping music. The entire album is great and feels like one entire experience--it's also the most collaborative album with regards to song writing; after this album they decided that Pete would write lyrics and Patrick the music without crossover (maybe on occasion but, for the most part, they split it up whereas on TTTYG they both worked on stuff which did lead to friction but led to some awesome music/lyrics that paired better than the later stuff). The songs just demanded your attention--I remember reading the lyrics and being almost shocked; they were playful but, at the same time, they weren't holding anything back. "Let's play this game called 'when you catch fire' I wouldn't piss to put you out" I mean...that's pretty damn angry but it felt like a perfect expression of some of the anger you feel at that age. I could go on and on but that album was something really, really special at the time. The album sound has a raw, electric feel to it that they've never really managed to capture again (for me)--the way they paired Patrick's singing with Pete's screaming has never been better than Grave. I know Cork Tree is many people's favorite and I love it but, for me, the lyrics are good but there are more 'meh' lyrics in there than Grave and the sound is poppier/more radio friendly which makes perfect sense but isn't my personal cup of tea (I'm not downing on that sound at all--I think people should always try and remember that FOB always set out to be a pop-ish band. So anyone that is surprised with their newer stuff really shouldn't be because the band always wanted to make stuff that'd be popular and not every band has the talent/flexibility to be able to do just that). For me, I never skip a single track on Grave and I can't say the same for the other albums. Cork Tree I always skip Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner (they released an EP between Grave and Cork Tree with the acoustic version of that song--I loved it and never really liked the electric version. It always felt like it should be acoustic to me but that could be because I heard it that way first). IOH, Folie, etc. I skip a few. But I will rock out to any song on Grave. I'm sure nostalgia plays a role but that's true for almost anyone's favorite album of theirs. Rant over.

@@brandonhern I agree with every word you typed. I got into FOB as they released Corktree and once I explored TTTYG I was sold. another INCREDIBLE vid, keep it up!! fob is my fav band of all time and I'm also literally so happy to find there really are people who give the new stuff a fair chance and appreciate it for what it is, personally mania is a no-skip album and SRAR is what got me into them when it came out when i was like. 13 so it always makes me so sad when people dislike them for no good reason, my personal ranking would be SRAR>Folie>Cork>Mania>Grave>Infinity>APAB I totally agree that SRAR feels vaguely experimental in a bit of a tentative way, and that it was mostly written in a v safe, radio-leaning direction, I'd def chalk that up to the immense pressure there must have been to make it palatable and successful and i more than forgive them for it, I'd play it pretty safe too if i was coming back after a slight quote-unquote slump and a threeish year hiatus. (I'm also a whore for some good producing and there are so many cool weird things going on in the meat of the music and the layering, like the cool weird rhythm and melody (and like, texture?) of light em up, like you said. you can really tell they had time to polish those songs and make them really tightly-woven and clean, regardless of the style or overarching "sound," no one can say srar was sloppy :)

Dude, the album was so good, I'm always BAFFLED when people say Folie a Deux was hated! Even the band members were quoted in multiple interviews as saying that the FAD-era of FOB was their most tumultuous and stressful time as a band, and largely because of fan reactions... the band said by this time, people were calling them washed up, calling Patrick "Fatrick" cuz of his weight at the time, and it was basically THE reason the hiatus happened!

Man I remember the commercials for it and hearing This Ain’t a Scene and just thinking “this sounds…okay…” haha it was so different back then but now it blends in well with the first 4 albums. The music video blew my mind when it began on the ending of Dance Dance.

i'm so surprised that i agree with a lot of your takes!! not a lot fob fans like mania but i love it and also think it's the best post-hiatus album! our rankings are pretty much the same except my personal favourite album is take this to your grave, but i get why you'd rank it last among the pre-hiatus albums. great job on the video! :)

I agree, I was a HUGE. fob fan when Folie came out and it’s still one of my favorites, especially vocally! Thanks for this video, dude! Grew up with this band and they’ve saved my life countless times, always will be my favorite band and it’s so nice to see someone not shit all over them for once lol.

I was about to declare blasphemy when I saw mania wasn’t right after evening out at the bottom of the list, even more so when I saw it was the best post hiatus album. But when I heard you out I can see your point. The lyrics are great and EXTREMELY Pete Wentz-ey on that album, the stitches line always gets to me too. I really resonated with your opening to this vid as well, old fob will always hold a special place in my heart but new fob still has its charm and shouldn’t be disregarded just because it is more mainstream. Halfway through the video so far and loving it!

So many memories made to their music: sleepless nights, long drives, and pivotal times of decision. Their music has been with me for more than half my life now (which is crazy) and I can't wait to see them live in September! Thanks for the fun video!

Absolutely criminal putting Evening Out on the bottom. Its so charming and like 50% great and 50% average. Wish they rerecorded some more of the tracks on that album.

Now I gotta go listen to a bunch of their stuff. Been a while since I listened to them. Can't say if I agree with you or not. I remember Infinity on High being my favorite and I didn't like Mania, but I need to freshen up on all of it. Great video. I hope you do more of these.

For me, the saddest part of FoB is that they didn't need to change. MGK, Olivia Rodrigo, etc are all super famous and getting radio play doing a cheap imitation of what bands like FOB and Panic! used to do. They all changed and then the genre they used to play blew up again.

Not only that. As a person who was into this music a few years ago (I'm 18yo so it was already uncool to listen to that) it is so exhausting to hear the very same sound everywhere. Like, didn't we outgrew this? Didn't all these bands change their sound because it was lackluster at this point? It would be as tiring if 90s Britpop or 90s ska came back. No one needs that again. The worst thing is that the sound returned but being overproduced, apolitical and with no bands. And as the guy of the video said: The organic feeling is not there, there isn't a band (a group of friends) playing :(

my ranking always kinda switches up because I enjoy their music so much that the “favorite” usually ends up being the one I’m listening to at the time but… here’s an average ranking. 1. Infinity On High 2. Save Rock and Roll 3. Folie a Deux 4. Cork Tree 5. Take This To Your Grave 6. Mania 7. AB/AP I definitely think their pre-hiatus work is more creative and “feels more like fall out boy” (shocking) than their new stuff… definitely the height of pete wentz stream of consciousness lyrics, but… post-hiatus deserves its dues. They have been able to be successful and create hits into the 2010s and it’s still really enjoyable music. Save Rock and Roll is a no skip album for me. And some of the tracks on mania are so cool? Young and menace is so weird and I love it for that, sunshine riptide and church have this cinematic produced feeling and while it’s not “rock” anymore and I guess I miss that… vibe?? It kind of makes you wonder what the point of a “band” is with electronic elements. But I still love what they’re doing from a musical standpoint, Patrick stump never runs out of ideas, and I’m excited to see what they experiment with next! Also folie is objectively their best album even if it isn’t my favorite just gotta put that out there

I must be one of the only fob fans who legitimately love evening out, the raw recordings and more underground punk scene sound of it just gives it a special place in my heart. Alot of punk bands have bad recordings or conventionally "bad" songs but everybody has different tastes and music is subjective. Feel like it deserves more credit for it being a group of young guys going "let's just make some shit" and managing to produce songs that actually have good messages

I remember my friend in fifth grade telling me about Sugar We're Going Down right before summer break, then going to my sister (who's 10 years older than me) and she got me FUTCT for my birthday that July. Life changed, man...FOB was my gateway band, and I think a lot of people can relate.

This is the list of my favorite FOB albums from my least favorite to my favorite one. 8.Evening 7.Take this 6.MANIA 5.AB/AP 4.From Under 3.Infinity 2.Save Rock and Roll 1.Folie à Deux

I absolutely see the parallel between “bleach” and “Nevermind” by nirvana to “TTTYG” and “FUTCT.” Both bleach and TTTYG are catchy and energy-filled with that single-set list mainstay (“about a girl” and “Saturday”), but both of their follow ups stratosphered their song writing and production. Great analogy.

Great video! My personal ranking would be TTTYG > FUTCT > Folie > IOH > SR&R > AB/AP > Mania but a few of those are close ones. I'm glad you gave fair praise to post-hiatus FOB, I really like a lot of the newer songs even though they're so different. Especially Save Rock and Roll, I still think that album has a lot of heart in it, even though it was obviously geared toward radio pop success. I saw them on that tour, and that and the whole concept videos thing made 2013 a very fun time to be a fan. I also respect the ranking for TTTYG, even though it's my personal favorite, I get why you would prefer the more refined style of the next few albums. Anyway, loving the content man.

I loved how you really get into each album and explain all the songs and what you like and dislike about each. Really wholistic ranking. Honestly I have a huge amount of respect for Fall Out boy in terms of scene influence but I cannot stand them cuz a majority of their fans in my age range are the same types that listen to nothing but new era FoB, solo Panic! and like, Black Parade. Glad that this scene is still as popular as it is but when your faves of the genre are all at best punk-inspired arena rock it comes off kinda pose-y Great video btw as always! Seeing u in my subbox is always swag :p

I am so glad that someone else from "my" era of falling in love with fall out boy has a similar opinion on Mania. I fucking love that album, and still choose to listen to it when the other two post hiatus albums never really end up on my rotation. I wanted to disagree with your placement of Folie, but your reasoning was solid, and I think you are Correct after that. From Under the Cork Tree really was just *something*. It released when I was in like. The fifth grade? But my biggest memories of the album come from later that year, going to my first school dance in middle school in the 6th grade, and hearing "Dance Dance" for the first time. I was not a Cool kid. I was Not having fun at that dance, but that song just slapped so hard I couldn't help but smile for a moment. What a time to be alive.
