@@CatCubed i understand the criticism for the until dawn trailer, but since it’s a choice based interactive game, they would make certain choices canonical and that would make certain fans upset. David Sandburg said off the get go that this was a spin off, in the same universe. My hope is that they use the movie money to develop an until dawn 2 sequel. There’s already rumors that it already is and the creator of the game was also helping with this movie. Hopefully they combine the two projects for the sequel game to give fans a reason to watch the movie. As a big fan of the game who’s been keeping up with it even when it was a beta, I think I’m going to enjoy the movie, personally. Test screeners of the movie enjoyed it as well and even said that it has great kills and practical effects were also apparently good with select few funny looking moments. They also said that the characters are likeable. And don’t worry about Dr.Hill, he’s supposed to have a really important role in here just like the game

I think my biggest problem is that they’re using the name PURELY to grab attention and ticket sales. If they had called it something else and said inspired or based off of the game Until Dawn, I think it would’ve been SO much more interesting. Why can’t studios just let screen writers write new stories without forcing them to fit their triangle shaped screenplays into the circle shaped beloved IP? I get that it is a risk to put out an original story that has no prior fan base, but I swear that people want original movies. They just have to be good. But no one is gonna enjoy watching one of their favorite games be used to draw in fans who are expecting something completely different. We have said that we hate that time and time again. A sincere time loop horror story sounds cool if it could distinguish itself from Happy Death Day, but you’ve forced a comparison to a popular game that it will never live up to.

As a diehard TLOU (game) fan I loved it being made into a show, but it’s because they honoured the game so well - flawlessly even. I also loved watching it with friends who didn’t know anything about it, and they loved it too. It just needs to be done well, it has to stand alone as a good show but please the fans. It’s tough and risky but the payoff is huge if they do it well. Same goes for adaptions of books, as long as it honours the art I’m always down!!!!

So Julien asks "What if its good?", to which I respond if they thought the movie was good enough on its own, then why do they feel like they need to use the Until Dawn IP to get viewership. They came out the gate saying that it had nothing to do with the game storyline just set in the same universe. It all feels so unnecessary, and risks upsetting a whole fandom. Unless that is their intention, because people will just hate watch it, which just leaves me with an icky feeling.

My thought was that every time they loop it's like a different "villain" or story, much like the Until Dawn, Quarry, and Dark Pictures Anthology are all related but different stories. Like that's how they're trying to connect the different variety of Dark Pictures games into one movie. It would be interesting if they had wendigo, werewolves, hallucinogenic gas, etc in the movie as different loops to tie it all together with the games.

It’s giving the writers wrote a movie purely from the name “until dawn” and received input from people who Googled the name, saw recaps from the game, then shared their interpretation to pretend like they knew what they were talking about. Then, focus groups shit on it, but they only had enough money remaining to add a few tidbits from the game so they could bamboozle the public from the marketing/interviews. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing the actors only hype up Until Dawn-related clips from the movie.

It's crazy that people can't see that the timeloop is kinda the only cinematic way to translate the choices from the game. Otherwise, Until Dawn has a messy, unoriginal, almost nonsensical plot and it needs some sort of gimmick to make it interesting. In fact, the timeloop also works because the game's plot is a not-very-successful mishmash of several different horror genres (slashers, monsters, mystery, torture-porn) and each time the night resets in the movie, the characters find themselves in a new type of horror movie. Tho the movie should have kept the winter cabin setting, that atmosphere was cool.

So the only connection i have w/ Until Dawn was when you played it and i watched the vods lol but i feel like… this is NAWT the same plot. Like wasn’t at least one of the plot points for the game that the friend (rami’s character) is the killer to get revenge for his sister?? Like thats not even shown here (other than maybe the missing sister - which i guess they couldve gender swapped the characters??- and the mask he wears) so im like??? The time loop wasnt even in the original if im not mistaken, i think they said they did they that bc of how there multiple endings based on the decisions you make in game but like… those are not the same things a time loop is now a different plot point😭

as I haven't played the game myself, only watched many playthroughs of it, I think this is a pretty cool take on it. Because in the game yes, when a character dies, they're dead and they can't start over, but that's also just real life lol. So it wouldn't make this any different from any other horror movie. It's a shame that the characters and the setting isn't the same though. Where's "it was just a prank, Han"? :D

I read one article on this movie and they're more focused on the multiple genres/vibes of horror that until dawn covers. At first you think there's a creepy killer in the woods, then there's the killer clown, then the wendigos, etc. My understanding is they're going to have each "life cycle" cover a different genre which i think could be kinda cool because Until Dawn is a bad candidate for movie imo. the game is literally a movie already. There's not really anything interesting to play with beyond retelling a story that has been played by millions of people over and over already. If you decide to do a retelling of the game, what ending do you pick? The whole fun of the game is figuring out what ending you got. The only way to do it would be a time loop kinda thing like this. Could be cool. I'm sure they'll screw it up though lol

The kind of ironic thing is that the Until Dawn plot is an homage to classic slashers, and therefore pretty much perfect for a movie adaptation. They would have had to cut into it a little bit, of course, and either everyone had to live or everyone had to die perhaps, to deal with the multiple choice aspect of the game, but overall, it could have been adapted into a movie almost as is. Could have been a wonderfully campy teen creature feature slasher. Alas, no.
