David Lockspeiser, was an innovative aircraft designer and engineer who designed and built the Boxer Utility Aircraft, the “Aerial Land Rover”, at Dunsfold aerodrome, where he was a leading test pilot working for Hawker Aircraft Company .
Originally named the LDA-01, or Land Development Aircraft, the Boxer was intended as a multi-purpose aircraft for developing and agricultural regions. It was designed to have a detachable payload container to allow easy conversions. Safe, hard-wearing and inexpensive, it could fly at low speeds, making it suitable for a variety of rural uses: transporting people, animals and goods, and crop spraying.
The LDA-01 was a single-seat canard monoplane, fabric covered with metal construction. The foreplane had a common design to the separately-made port and starboard wings of the main plane, giving it half the area. The intention was to reduce the number of spare parts needed by re-using the same wing component interchangeably in each location. The main wings were mounted at the rear-end of the box structure fuselage and the fore wing was attached underneath the front. It was powered by a rear-mounted pusher engine. The LDA-01 G-AVOR first flew on 24 August 1971 at Surrey -England, under the power of an 85 hp (63 kW) Continental C85 piston engine, but was later refitted with a more powerful Lycoming O-320 engine.
The aircraft had been renamed the Boxer 500, and was being modified to planned production configuration by Brooklands Aerospace when it was destroyed in a fire during an arson attack on 16 January 1987

Planos propios.

Nice model and great flying. I met David Lockspeiser way back in the early 60's. I was in my early teens then, and my father worked with David at the, Dunsfold aerodrome. My parents held a dinner party with the Dunsfold pilots and I got introduced to them. The next day as I was cycling into our drive way from school, the Hawker Hurricane "The Last of the Many" flew over from Dunsfold and seeing me, waggled his wings. Brilliant memory! Great to see David being remembered with your model.

WHAT A WONDERFUL ANECDOTE DEAR FRIEND...! I IMAGINE THE EXCITEMENT OF SEEING THE HURRICANE GREETING YOU WITH THE WINGS...! I AM AWARE THAT MINE IS JUST A HUMBLE TRIBUTE TO THAT UNRECOGNIZED GENIUS WHO WAS DAVIS LOCKSPEISER. IT IS A SHAME THAT HIS DESIGN WAS NOT PRODUCED. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR STORY AND FOR COMMENTING ON MY MODEL'S FLIGHT !

Your videos are well done. They're clear and well edited. Th camera work is good. You keep the model in frame, and the model fills the frame. The videos are interesting, and pleasant to watch.

I always try to take great care when filming a project... Sometimes a good model goes unnoticed just because it wasn't filmed properly. Thanks James for your comment!

Excellent build and flying! Well done! Did you only have elevons but no elevator on the canard? What kind of power setup did you use…I’d like to try to build this!

The elevators in the canard didn't have enough authority, so I had to opt for the elevons. I will see my notes to remember the setup. (Lockspeiser is already in heaven, lol) Thanks for your comment!
