Just came back to this video after a while, and it brings back memories. I just started playing Magic in 2018, and my decks, like lots of people's early decks, were full of janky draft chaff cards that I just thought were cool. Sidisi, however, was the first commander I got where I was like: "This is a deck I really want to make as something special", and so I splurged on things like Gravecrawler, Golgari Grave Troll, Genesis, and other such cards. However, it wasn't enough. I distinctly remember the time I came across this video. I wanted more info on how to make a better Sidisi deck, so I did something I've never done before up to that point. I looked up a deck tech, and found this one first. I was in my mom's hospital room. She was there for a routine check up after a long battle with breast cancer that had lasted for years up to that poin. Unfortunately, my mother died the same year on Christmas Day. In those final days, things were incredibly stressful because we had lots of people coming in and out of the house, and my grandmother(mother's side) doesn't exactly have the highest opinion of my dad, so there was a lot of tension in the house. Fortunately, I still had one salvation. My local game store, and Magic the Gathering. DJ was really the first Magic KZbinr I really got to know through watching his videos, and this video in particular takes me back to when I first started playing, and also reminds me of my mother, as well as the fact that, for a while, Magic was the only thing I had to get me through one of the darkest periods of my life. Thank you DJ for being such and awesome guy.

With the advent of dominaria, adding Muldrotha to the 99 is a game changer, now if you mill your Path to Discovery or Palace siege, no worries, they are right there for the taking. Add to that Kamahls Druidic Vow, Tatyova(comboing with Gitrog and Ramunap Excavator), Final Parting, Dark Bargain and Memory to folly! Thank you so much for this original Deck Tech Jumbo Commander, it's now one of my favourite EDH decks!

There is a reason why Sidisi is the most popular sultai commander. Because leovold is banned.

Jumbo Commander Oh, I agree. I think she’s an incredibly strong commander that’s pretty different from most other legendary creatures. I like that she can be a simple casual deck while also having great competitive potential. She’s definitely a lot more fun than Leovold as well lol. But, if he wasn’t banned I still think he’d be the most played.

Sidisi was the first Commander deck I built, way back in December 2015. So many great memories! Like milling my friend's Karador deck, then playing Bojuka Bog. Or using Mindcrank with Duskmantle Guildmage. I haven't upgraded the deck in quite a while, and I'd really like to get around to doing that. This video served as a reminder of some of the fantastic cards from the past few sets which I'd like to include. Cheers!

@Jumbo Commander Thanks for the inspiration! I started playing commander a year or so ago after not playing magic for about 18-19 years. One of the first decks I tried to put together was Ruric Thar, the unbowed, but couldn't quite make it work. Your video inspired me to revisit that deck since the same logic applies to wanting a lot of creatures to do affects as opposed to other types of cards. Certainly won't be competitive the way I'm building it, but I had a lot of fun looking for creatures that do things I would typically do with enchantments, artifacts, sorceries, etc as well as recursion, card draw and ramping. For example I added in a few Bloodrush cards since they aren't technically spells being played and I can use them as creatures if need be or have them come back to hand via other graveyard recursion from creatures and not take the Ruric Thar penalty.
@JumboCommander7 жыл бұрын
Fun > Competitve I like Zur-Ta Druid in that deck. It's the ramp you need. It's little bits of damage that add up making Ruric thar hurt even more. It's also not overpowered or overpriced just a solid flavorful little uncommon.

I have Excavation which lets me(and the rest of the table) sacrifice lands to draw cards, I do run the Splendid reclamation in addition to the Merfolk, I run Life from the Loam...and possible something else and Sidisi and Gitrog go really well together because they can both work off of Sidisi's ability.

Hey man. I just started going through your channel after seeing you on command zone, and loving your deck techs. I’ve been playing sidisi since her release and she’s one of my favorite commanders. You have some great advice that will really level up my deck. Here’s a couple recommendations for you to try. 1. Sultai ascendancy. I know if it not a creature it needs to be good, but I think this makes the cut. Grants a better version of scry, for this type of deck. I’ll admit, I’m on the fence on if it’s good enough for not being a creature, especially with hand of sidisi being a thing. But I like redundant effects that grant synergy and advantage, so I keep for now. 2. Vengeful Pharaoh. A light/creature version of no mercy that can be placed back on top to always be milled again. It’s just a perfect for this. 3. Embalmers tools. Wow was I excited to see this printed. The first effect doesn’t matter much but tap an untapped zombie to mill a player for 1? This is a hint of chaos potential that makes it to fun not to run. “End of your turn I’ll tap my zombie, get a token, tap that zombie, get a token, tap that zombie....oh it’s a land. Guess I only my get 6 free zombies this time.”
@justinfaretta40756 жыл бұрын
Also, any creature versions of parallel lives you could recommend?
@justinfaretta40756 жыл бұрын
Lastly, I realize it’s another non-creature, but gravepurge is amazing. It with embalmber tools just reads “3 mana: instant speed create a 2/2 zombie for each creature in your graveyard”

Instantly ordered a mesmeric orb for my Sidisi under construction! I'll build my deck with as many explore creatures as possible and then use living end/living death to reanimate all my creatures and my path of discovery will get me soo many explore triggers especially with a panharmonicon out. Some Sac outlets for my creatures will get me my entire army back (tokens not...) with a living end and perhaps wipe the table completely. Thank you for your deck tech!
@JumboCommander7 жыл бұрын
Good luck tweaking your deck. I hope it performs really well.

Kederekt Leviathan is a great fit for this deck I think. It's a board wipe on a creature that hits all nonland permanents (bounces instead of destroys, but still effective), but most importantly it has unearth so you can easily access it from the graveyard whenever you need it.

I have a graveyard toolbox Sidisi deck, but i believe most of these could spice up your deck: -Use Krosan Restorer instead of Werebear. Yeah, Werebear gets bigger with threshold, but KR untaps any kind of land. Even 3 lands. -Cut the tutor Sidisi. Use Razaketh instead. He costs more mana, but you can tutor for days thanks to the amount of zombie tokens you gonna have. You get in a bad situation? tutor. The board gonna get wiped? Sac all you creatures and tutor for Bojuka Bog and Living Death. - Necrotic Ooze. Just use it. Jarad order tutor Ooze, pitch Razaketh, Avatar of Woe, or whatever card with a great activated ability. - Stitch Together: 2 black for reanimating an Emrakul the Promised End? Just simply feels so good. - Avatar of Woe is usually 2 black and basicly has - Gravespawn Sovereign. Tap 5 zombies to reanimate a creature. Tell me what kind of tokens does Sidisi make? - Kessig Cagebreakers. Because wolfs.

I think that The Mimeoplasm would be such a nice addition to the deck, and how about Meren, of Clan Neltoth or Souldred, the Whisperer :O
@dickheiney72816 жыл бұрын
those are good but not super fast and a generic board wipe will destroy your 7 mana investment. I think getting some enchantments and artifacts like cryptolith rite, throne of the god pharaoh, phenax, parallel lives, growing rites, and phyrexian reclamation, and most important is concordant crossroads. those legendaries you mentioned are still great but it is hard to keep them around

Right after the 1st game, the 2nd and 3rd was a dismay playing with another bunch. They countered it, removal spells. One player even exiled Sidisi 3X. 6X I have to cast Sidisi in one game and I milled Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Whispersilk Cloak and Path of discovery. I added additional counterspells and removal spells of my own. And I'm gonna play it again this Friday. To note: the first time ever happen to me, nobody wants to play against me with Krenko. At 39 creatures I don't miss it to often but the flashback strategy is nice to fall back on when needed, theres enough filtering to get the triggers when I'd want them which helps if I need to mill gaea's blessing to respond to opposing grave hate(ulamog or kozliek are outside of my current budget). Have yet to update it with stuff from rivals.

I've thought of building a Sidisi commander deck because It's a cool and unique commander, but I'm not a fan of decks that win with creature tokens. Now that you mention adding cards that mill your opponent, you got me interested in this commander again. I thought of making a The Mimeoplasm deck that mills (that sounds very weird), although this I think would be a more interesting Sultai milling commander.
@JumboCommander7 жыл бұрын
I like some of the mimioplasm's interactions but sidisi feels like you are playing an entire wedge in magic, so fun.
@GuardianAngelEatos7 жыл бұрын
Yeah Sidisi does seem like a lot more fun since you're doing much more, I just wish that I enjoyed winning with an army of tokens. Although the process of getting to that point sounds like a lot of fun! I might make a Sidisi deck over The Mimeoplasm. I'm also making a Sedris, the Traitor King deck, so I'd rather not be making two more reanimator decks, although Sidisi doesn't focus on reanimating, so I might be ok with that. I'd love to see you make a Sedris deck tech some time! I think Sedris is underplayed! Being able to reanimate creatures for three mana and giving them haste is nice! It's also in the perfect color combination for gettting creatures into your graveyard if you want to do that.
@GuardianAngelEatos7 жыл бұрын
Hey also while we're talking about Sidisi, what do you think of Embalmer's Tools with Sidisi? It's not a creature, but I think a 2 mana artifact that allows you to keep tapping a zombie token to mill a card from your deck to make more tokens to tap and mill at instand speed is well worth it! Also if you want to add cards that mill your opponent Altar of the Brood would be a great addition! Mill each opponent a card for each of those tokens and lands that you play!
@JumboCommander7 жыл бұрын
I saw it in EDH rec. I'm ... I'm fine with it. It was in my tapped out list but ... Have you ever seen it played? Is leaving it out a big miss?

So here is what potential I see for this deck; -Since Ravnica came out, the “self-mill” abiltiy will be able to fuel the Golgari cards that you can put in the deck. Like a Rhizome Lurcher could become a 20/20. (Btw that actually happened to me in my MODERN deck.) -Sidisi is in blue so, you can maybe manipulate the top of your deck and then self-mill to get a few more zombies on the field. -With a Cellar Door and a Doubling Season you could get up to 4 2/2’s a turn. (That’s some spicy stuuf) -Again, since Sidisi is in some Golgari action, you could run Vraska, Regal Gorgon, and then just self-mill a few times, (possibly getting a couple zombies on the field) and then finally ultimate Vraska, and a bajillion counters on ALL your creatures. (That’s just a few ideas of what I thought of)
@Mattismen7 жыл бұрын
Since you're not running many instants or sorcery cards in your own deck, I'd suggest including Wrexial, The Risen Deep. Helps your mill subtheme while stealing your opponents best spells. A ton of fun as a Commander on his own too!

My personal Sidisi deck is pretty light on Reanimator, though of course there's some. I feel one of the best Reanimate cards for Sidisi is Soul of Innistrad. 5 mana for 3 cards to hand is prime value, especially when it can be used in the graveyard! My build really focuses on going wide to chip away at everyones life total, before slamming down a Mortivore/Splinterfright/Lord of Extinction followed by using Jarad to nuke everyone for the rest of their health. Especially with cards like Jarad, Wonder, Rise of the Dark Realms, and Ghoulcaller Gissa. She is a power house if you use cards like Apocalypse Demon, Golgari Grave-Troll, or Splinterfright. This deck tech makes me want to bust out a game right now haha! and uh...*cough* *cough* Parallel Lives....just saying.

I have seen this deck perform similarly - not overpowered but fun, synergistic without limiting the strategy. I could see us leaning into the token theme - gravetitan, hornet queen ... parallel lives can be flashed back when you mill it :D

Hello Jumbo Commander, can I ask some pf your thoughts about Karador? Thanks
@JumboCommander7 жыл бұрын
Karador is popular and powerful. Tons of ways to build powerful graveyard value. I think you can take this a lot of directions. It seems like after graveyard engines I see a lot good stuff in these decks.
@Lollix877 жыл бұрын
Jumbo Commander that's true. I'm brewing a budjet version that includes a little automill and some "fun" shenanigans that includes artisan of kozilek, karmic guide and the phyrexian delver to reuse the major threaths

I used to have a mimioplasm deck. it was very fun, I'll talk about it eventually for sure.

Would meren of clan nel toth not potentially work in the deck. Not for her ability to reanimate but more as a way to make your mills become a somewhat pseudo draw.

Wouldn't reanimating a Craterhoof Behemoth in this deck be good if there were a bunch of zombie tokens?
@JumboCommander7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, it's great! I have the hoof in the decklist but I didn't mention him in the video because I'm a little bored talking about how good hoof is all the time.

Could you do a video on Kess with storm without spending more then 200 dollars?

Couple comments. One, I disagree on the potency of altar of dementia. That card can potentially mill us anywhere from 2 to 20+ cards at each end step before your turn (doing things at instant speed is crucial, it's why I run vedalken orrery too). Plus it comboes with path of discovery, milling for 3 instead of 2. Next, I feel like you missed the huge combo potential. In combo with mesmeric orb run something that can tap and untap itself and bam, entire library into graveyard. Combo this with a reshuffler such as worldspine wurm and a laboratory maniac and you've got yourself a win condition.

As a huge fan of Sidisi, this was nice to see :) There is really nice interaction here. I would suggest playing Gravespawn Sovereign and one of the grave shuffle Eldrazis. Here is a list I am currently playing tappedout.net/mtg-decks/10-02-18-sidisi-brood-tyrant-combo/ :D

Is this ment for 1v1 or ffa ive never been able to tell with your decks
@JumboCommander7 жыл бұрын
Good question. All of my decks are really designed for multiplayer and you can mostly tell because of the curve. This one sits well above 3.5 CMC. This means it kinda does it's own thing and wins through value. To make this a 1v1 deck I would lower the curve, add more interaction, and include threats that have some amount of protection or added value (true-name, deathrite, vendillion clique, etc). This would make it more competitive but a lot depends on your meta.

Could we get a surrak dragonclaw deck tech?

I’d also like to add that a gitrog monster would do well in this deck for whenever you mill a land

I like all the legends to be in this deck :D What direction should I take Surrak?
