The Scorpion God Commander Deck Tech

I built a scorpion god commander after watching this video. I wanted to try the idea with rats and insects and it turned out very well in my playgroup. Keep it up with the good content, you make my work day go by.

Thanks for doing this deck tech man. The scorpion God is the God that has gotten the least amount of love from the community. I've gone a bit of control build myself but I've also dipped my toe into voltron. The scorpion God is only one power away from a three hit kill and if you give him infect you only need to hit twice. The recursion ability really helps as well. Fist of the demigod is great if you want to do that because it gives him +2/+2 first strike and wither. If you target him with a Chandras ignition while he has infect/wither that will give you a total board wipe, it will fill your hand and it might also kill an opponent or two.

Hey Jumbo, This vid was GREAT. Love the new gods and what they offer as new commanders with new(ish) strategies. A few I'd like to draw to your attention for this deck that I think are useful and fun would be: Flamekin Harbinger to serch up those utility elementals you mentioned Fists of the Demigod because Scorp god has fists, right? Puncture Blast and it's lil brothers Puncture Bolt and Scar Soul-Scar Mage with direct dmg effects These are just to name a few! Enjoy and happy brewing!

I'm so happy to see you talked about wither for this deck tech. I like wither as a more friendly infect.. My playgroup absolutely abhors infect and will hate you out of every game if you show infect pieces, thanks to it being so busted. I was thinking about building this guy as an answer to the plethora of token decks popping up in my meta.

I have him in my Thraximundar deck as a card draw engine. Things are dying left and right, so I toss a counter on a creature before it dies and there we go. I also run Soldevi Adnate, so his death trigger makes Adnate a 5 mana engine when I need it with no real repercussions. That provides me with whatever Morbid triggers I need too. The Scorpion God is a toolbox wherever you put him.

With all that draw from the god, i was waiting for Psychosis Crawler. Now that's another beast for this deck :) Also, with Archfiend, i wouldn't so much add more cycling (though it's always great), but cash on the discard from all the draws (given we don't go "you have no maximum hand size" route), and then throw in some reshuffling (original Eldrazi titans, Elixir of Immortality). Great video, thanks for all the ideas!

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but the Blowfly Infestation Nest of Scarabs combo doesn't work. Blowfly Infestation reads, "Whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from play...". Since the tokens from Nest of Scarabs do not go to the graveyard, you don't get the Blowfly Infestation trigger.

Oh wow! I never even thought of using Chandra's Ignition or Warstorm Surge with Infect creatures! Oh man Chandra's Ignition with the Scorpion god equipped to Grafted Exoskeleton is sick! Deal 8 Infect damage to each other creature, 8 poison counters to each opponent, and draw a ton of cards from both you and your opponent's creatures dying! Awesome video Jumbo! I wasn't sure if I was going to build a Scorpion god deck, but now I kind of want to make a infect version of the Scorpion god since I've never made a infect deck before, and this one looks like it could be fun! There have been so many great commanders in the last couple years! I want to build so many of them, but I really shouldn't. I already build a Neheb the Eternal deck, and I plan to make a deck for the Scarab god, The Ur Dragon, and maybe that new Vampire commander coming in Commander 2017.

I have a deck that relies on Wither and has the nasty bloatfly and crumbling ashes enchantments. I carry some Hex Parasites on the off chance my creatures are the only ones tagged and I don't feel like blowing them up. Great video, been waiting for some Scorpion God love. Keep it up.

I was going to either use Karrthus Tyrant of Jund for its huge body or the shattergang brothers for it's removal. Probably Karrthus because it doesn't die as easily to neg one counters.

Fun/Janky Karrthus Tech: Descent of the Dragons, turn anything you want into 4/4 dragons so upgrade all your Hapatra Snakes but also turn their good creatures into dragons then use Karrthus to steal every dragon in the game and give them all haste :D

Your voice is similar to that of a film studies professor I had. Anywho...I just built Scorpion God and pretty much built this deck with some differences. Mostly was wither creatures, infect creatures, and things that worked along with -1/-1 counters.

My favorite combo in my scorpion god deck is hateflayer and surestrike trident i don't know how many times i just sat back waited for everyone to tap out then go "okay let me enchant hateflayer with glistening oil and kill all of you at once" not to mention having glistening oil alone is an out of nowhere enchantment that can go on the scorpion god cause even if he's killed both cards go straight back to your hand no problem

It would be really cool if you could make a deck tech with all three of them as somewhat hidden commanders. I think they have some overlapping themes you could work with. Like wheel effects or token creation (something like doubling season would be sick I think)

an Idea for the rat part of the deck, how about pack rat? It seems like a good addition, discard a card which works well with archfiend of ifnir, have another rat for the rat synergies and if all else fails, big beatsticks to kill your opponent with.

Russell No, I'm pretty sure he does. I think the idea here is just to carefully keep the population culled with the God or other sources of -1/-1 counters so you can keep generating tokens, and by extension, value. It's not foolproof, but if you have Blowfly Infestation out (which shouldn't be a problem with all of the cards you should be drawing, and with the presence of black tutor spells), you can really take advantage of the extra 1/1 tokens, as long as you have a fair amount of creature cards in the deck to trigger Endrek.

Great video. Already subscribed and I like this video. Was working on a Marchesa the black rose infect deck but there was not much going on in red so I was looking into wither when the Scorpion God was spoiled. My head is spinning and you just made it worse. Haha. Seriously, Marchesa, the black rose/Scorpion god infect/wither? Should I pick one or the other or do both these strategies mesh?

Don't mesh. Black Rose works best when you can throw +1/+1 counters around easily giving your team resilience. I think the scorpion god would just be distracting from your main purpose and vice versa.

Yeah that's a good thought. I saw that Wedge from The Mana Source seems to think that it will be Clerics as well. If it ends up being a black white Cleric deck that means we won't have a commander deck devoted to blue. The dragon commander deck will be the only one with blue, and we'll have most likely three decks with black and three with white. My guess is that the Vampire commander is Mardu.

I've tried so hard with infect edh in multiplayer and majority of my games I use all my resources on one opponent then wither away the rest of the game. 1v1 is where I see infect as a monster

0220cj with this deck early Infect isn't the way to win. Let the big splashy enchantments handle ohko the opponents with infect damage. Your early game is one of card advantage and control using your counters, some tokens and the THREAT of infect damage that will hold your opponents at bay from swinging out due to fear of a fatal crack back. Keep your board wipes ready and don't commit to the field too early. Once scorpion God comes out be immediately merciless with throwing infect at ppl. If they block and kill your guys then they will incur counters which become more gas for you to keep pressure. If they don't block they die early. Simple

My Philosophy on playing Rakdos colors....You are trying to get your opponents to hate you, Kaervek you want to play any card that deals direct damage and punish people for just casting spells....Mogis, you want to force people to make a choice on either sacrificing a creature or paying life....Olivia Voldaren, you want to just steal your opponent's creatures....And Malfegor is a board wipe while enabling madness for yourself. My point is, if you want to play Rakdos colors, be ready to be a target at the table...
