Cities Skylines 2 just dropped its most anticipated patch update, the Economy 2.0 patch! With it come some (albeit temporary) game breaking warnings that might see your cities struggling. The patch itself addresses the soft economy, removing government subsidies, stripping back supports, and sweeping a deathwave across the city. i like CS2, but it feels so lacking, feels like there are so many things missing, while playing CS2 i constantly think about giving up and going back to CS1. and there are som weird things like trams randomly despawning and going back to the depo, my citizens don't even use the tram, i don't know if it's because i'm bad at making routes or if the game is bugged.

A great example of why bad, poorly play-tested design is such a costly affair, because even when (or if) they fix it you'll usually need to see the dusk before the dawn. That's why so many real-world problems are so highly resistant to change, because in order to climb Mt. Everest you first need to climb down from Mt. Kilimanjaro.

I have 850k in my city, and the very day before the patch was released, I had the biggest death wave ever. Lost 100K just after a few cycles. I thought the patch came early! 😆

The tile upkeep is a terrible idea, it basically kills the idea of building regional towns. At least you can adjust the fee or just disable it with the unlock all 529 tile mod.

I think it's temporary. Most people don't seem to like it so it seems mad to keep it in. But they needed a quick way to increase costs and difficulty while they figure out a better way to do it.

i honestly gave up with previous saves and just started a new city then had to clear my mods list and gradually add them back as they're updated but i'm having a much better time especially with the added difficulty where the fixes i attempt actually make a visible difference. my city is very much struggling to stay afloat but that's part of the fun for me.

So much better than no-expansions vanilla CS:1, but itll take them a long time to iron out the remaining issues (unlimited demand, record unemployment) before it even approaches latter days vanilla CS:1. That said i cannot go back to those old road tools.

All we need now is better traffic, a lot more assets, more options to make better parks, getting rid of the stupid tax system based on educational level. And some compensation because they lied when the game release. This game is no where near finished

While the tax based on education sounds stupid and breaks immersion, it really won't change the game in anyway other than a label on a menu. The way the game works higher education almost always earn more outside unique circumstances. I'm sure they will get to it later and are prioritizing the big stuff.

I don't think that this should be high on their priority list. While it may be immersion breaking for some, it's still a good proxy for earnings and as such changing it won't have much of an impact on the game if at all.

Some early reviews mentioned that building public transport did not seem to reduce vehicular traffic (or change it at all). Has anyone got personal experience about this with a recent patch? Is this still the case?

Not sure, I did notice some of my metro lines were broken. As in the metro cars were stuck on "boarding" in some stations. Had to destroy and rebuild them. Apart from that, all I have noticed (traffic wise) is a massive number of hearses all over the place.. Which was odd, since my population increased by over 3k people.. :)

I have a lot of public transport and all traffic qeues are made by cargo vehicles so I think public transport either works or it's normal to have so little car traffic, Idk this game is buggy as hell

Yes, from my experience public transport does make an impact on the amount of traffic. I used mostly buses.

I believe this is a step in a very good direction for this game to become the proper city simulation AND painter it was meant to be. There is finally challenge to the game beyond road layouts, which is what the majority of the community wants. To those who are already complaining about all the new upkeep costs: this is what we asked for! If the challenge is too much, it's more than likely there will be mods that come out to ease the financial burden, or you can just turn on unlimited money. I think it's also fantastic how far the CO team has come, has listened to their player base, and is now doing their best to fix the lump of coal this game originally came out as. It hasn't been polished to a diamond yet, but it's on its way there 😊❤

I did all the suggestions given to me by Skyve, and the game does recognize the mods, it also says xxx mods loaded + the rest, but once I start a game there is NO button of any of those mods to be found. Is there any reason for that?

So, the game moves from Alpha to Beta Cool, cool Most mods are updated for me, just got to wait for the Extended Cargo Terminal LHD, and the ROW zones and my city should be sweet to go - minus that $22m fee

i recently found out you can get almost 20 more fps by closing water animation in the dev tools. even more suprising is nothing changes visually when you make it zero. the sad thing is when time passes it returns to 1x speed and fps drops again. please try this and you will get the idea. i am trying to find a solution to this problem help me

If each map you started on was a fresh, unexplored world, yea it wouldn't make sense. In a modern day society the flat rate of upkeep is a very simplified version of all the associated costs of unoccupied land. Think about it for a second, how much state owned land is there around you? How much of it is protected land or a reserve? Do native people have land rights to certain spots or places? Whilst it's not a huge amount, national parks, forests, bush lands, wet lands, marine reserves and indigenous grounds all have associated upkeep costs. So yea, tile upkeep does make sense.

My game crashed once when I was recording the death wave clips. One other thing I meant to mention for others out there - Mod compatibility will be a bit of an unknown so make sure you try without mods too.

Looks like new patch introduced an office bug - after a few levels, all your offices, regardless of size, end up only employing 5 people. Build a high density office, starts off with 100+ jobs, but as it the building levels, number of jobs will drop to 5. So your unemployment keeps skyrocketing. How the hell does this bug get out the door without the idiots at CO even noticing?

That may not be a bug as I have full high level office buildings. There might be some genuine gameplay reason your buildings aren't filling e.g education levels and company profitability. It's worth testing more to recreate it, rather than assuming it's broken.

So I started a brand new city and have restarted like 3 times now, it seems almost impossible to start a new game, I have no idea how to make money at the start of the game now.

Lower taxes to get more people and companies in with your first 1million in the beginning, then raise them back up to start earning once you have a good pop, but don't go too high. Juggling taxes seems to have a much higher/quicker effect now. And only buy service buildings when you can afford them and lower their budgets to start with. If you go all in on school/high school/garbage/medical etc at the beginning you quickly run out of money.

Awesome, they made us wait for months for this patch because they wanted to test everything thoroughly. They waited so long, that their certificate got expired. One of the most amateuristic mistakes in IT.

So let me get something st8, I want to make sure I'm not missing something here: 1) They put out a broken game that everyone just did not like. 2) Several of other KZbinRS complained to them that the game is broken because it is way too easy. 3) They fixed the game by making it harder for you to make money. 4) And now you show us that we have mods to get around some of the coding that they gave us. Doh!!!! 🤔 So now instead of making money say in several hours (real time), it appears that you will have to wait several days or a week(real time) to make the same amount of money if you can? So basically I must keep paying for times I purchased?? Here is a thought just fix the dam economy!!! 🥴

The tiles upkeep cost is lame. It seems to me CO had to do something to make the game harder, so they just introduced this feature. It is also not so realistic. It is the city services that cost a city money not the area. They should also changed landscaping. It must cost money like in CS1. After all the update is lame. CO is really incompetent. It becomes clearer every month. Should be fired...
