Microsoft announced today-October 7-they are delaying this feature rollout. Originally slated to be available on October 5, it's now pushed out to October 19, 2020.

This was EXCELLENT! I am so tired of tutorials which waffle on with long premables and I'm always thinking OH JUST GET ON WITH IT. You got on with it, right away - and did not even once say 'umm' ' ahhh' or other. It was a superb (and very clear) presentation. Thanks so much!

Info is great! One suggestion though, if you can show most of the info with visuals (like you did with some of them) it may be easier for audience to follow. I constantly have to replay to understand completely. But again this is because you have a lot of great info condensed in a short period of time

A few points. Stream as a service is scheduled to start going away sometime in 2021, so telling users to upload to Stream for safe keeping may be a more complicated conversation next year when you tell them their Stream recordings have been migrated to SharePoint. According to Microsoft, if admins don't opt-out, then Teams Meeting Recordings will save to OneDrive/SharePoint in early-mid November.

Thanks Matt, excellent breakdown that answered my questions about this changeover. We run SPO storage pretty tight so the impact there is something we need to look at before flipping the switch.
@jumpto3654 жыл бұрын
Looking more into it, this is an opt-in option first, then it'll become an opt-out, but eventually you won't be able to opt out. There's a link to the Ignite video in this video's description that dives into it more, near the end. Unsure on timing, but you might want to be. 😉

Hi, Matt. So, what happens to the automatic transcriptions? Are they still generated with the files being saved on SharePoint or OneDrive?
@jumpto3654 жыл бұрын
The transcription still comes with the meeting, but separate from the recording. If you want the two together, download the transcript from Teams, upload the video to Stream, then upload the transcript to the video using the 'upload a caption file' feature. I'll ask around to see if there's an easier way. docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/portal-add-subtitles-captions

I think the whole user experience needs a lot of work. I feel like the sharing permissions should be automatically updated according to who joined the meeting so that anyone who joined the meeting can click on the link in the chat and get access to the recording. Manual permission assignment and sharing can be optional later on for those who want the meeting recording to not be available to outsiders. A question, Will the stream app (GUI) stay and be improved in the future or file location moved to SharePoint and OneDrive will so mean that stream app will cease to exist?

Is there a storage quota in Stream? (Versus the quota in OneDrive and Sharepoint in this new version).
@jumpto3654 жыл бұрын
Yes, looks like it was more on the per-video basis and not strictly on the space usage: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/quotas-and-limitations

@@jumpto365 Yes, there is a storage quota too. Stream Admins can see where the current usage level is at in the Admin Console for Stream.

I am very new to PowerShell so this may be a dumb question... but if I run the command within PowerShell based on my login credentials, does it effect everyone? I guess my question is around if someone else within the organization records a meeting, will it store that recording into SharePoint or One Drive? Or will it only work for meetings that I control the recordings on?

If you're an admin and you run the PowerShell, it will affect the whole organization.

Will you be able to trim the start of the video with this new "Stream"?
@jumpto3654 жыл бұрын
I don't believe so. Don't think of it as a Stream object anymore. Think of it as a file in OneDrive and SharePoint, just one that happened to have been processed by Stream. To get the Stream benefits, upload the file to Stream. (Or don't enable this feature.) That said, I could be wrong; haven't played with editing yet.
@friendlyfriesen4 жыл бұрын
@@jumpto365 It seems that if you have a lot of videos that are shared outside your Org, you should move to the new model. If most of your videos are for internal staff, I don't see the huge draw to using the OneDrive mode, and only the drawbacks. As per usual, Microsoft is trying to move us to another new solution without giving us the features that we currently have. They are probably trying to mitigate the growth in Streams recordings that they didn't foresee due to Covid-19. I'm guessing the Streams infrastructure costs more for them to run. It's like not having the ability to create Outlook tasks in Onenote for Windows 10. We are still using OneNote 2016 because of that....

This part is not automatic yet and won’t be for months, maybe a year. It’s opt-in first, then it’s going to transfer to an opt-out, then eventually everyone will have no choice but to use it. While this is related to “the new Stream”, it’s not part of the automatic migration process.

hello, i.m quite new in teams and have a question about recordings. Who can hit the record button during a meeting ? Only the organiser ? anyone in the organisation who take part of the meeting ? If anyone, can also anyone stop the recording ? i had that kind of problem with another videoconferencing service where anyone in org could start / stop the recording, leading sometimes to partial recordings. there was an option where the organiser could ask for’recording when planning the meeting, this way no one could stop it during the meeting. And finally the owner of the video file was the organiser. hope to have the same behaviour in teams
@jumpto3654 жыл бұрын
Only presenters (which includes the organizer) can record, and only those who are in the system (they need a OneDrive account to store the recording). The person who starts the recording has to end it. support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/record-a-meeting-in-teams-34dfbe7f-b07d-4a27-b4c6-de62f1348c24
