Steve vai will always be under rated. His genius is not yet fully comprehended in our era. i was raised on his licks. One of very few guitarists who can play in any style and sound like a unique legend within any genre of music he plays yet within any style still have something of his own uniqueness shine through that is completely identifiably his sound. And total a gent. I'd love a david lee roth band reunion that was the form i liked him best, i guess because of nostalgia.

What a lot of people don't get is that VaI is a pioneer. He helped Joe Satriani get signed and kicked the door down allowing a lot of rock instrumental guitarists to get through. Before the Passion and Warfare album there were no solo artists outside of the Jazz scene. Love him or hate him any one that has a career as a solo guitarist owes Steve. I discovered him when he was in Alcatrazz.
@matrixx295 жыл бұрын
You have some wrong information there sir... Joe Satriani actually taught Steve Vai how to play when they were in their teens.. Vai didn't even know how to string his first guitar.. so he brought it to Joe. Joe actually put out Surfing with the alien in 1987 three years before Passion and warfare came out in 1990. so JOE is the actual pioneer. This is all pretty common knowledge in the guitar world. also, Joe created his own label so Vai didn't help Joe with that either. So pretty much your entire post was incorrect..lol.

There's obviously the greatness of Vai on guitar, but Billy S on bass is also one of those rare musicians who is on another level. Steve and Billy go back to the 80s when David Lee Roth was smart enough to realize that he needed something more to fill seats when he went solo. Roth would actually leave the stage for unusually large chunks of time and the crowds ate up the long duels between Steve and Billy each night. There's a video of one of those concerts from the Big Hair Era. The only other bass player I've personally seen play who is at Billy's technical level was Jaco Pastorius back in the 70s. Again, I'm only talking about those I've seen play, so be nice.
