I wouldn't say it was a great game. Decent, but not great in my opinion. But then, I am fairly sure I never got past level 3 before I gave up (the 3D sections were definitely the weak point of the game). I spent most of my playing time (which was not inconsiderable) in the sewers on level one, which was quite tense with that crocodile thing swimming around. They designed that section rather well, making it necessary to get in the water and so expose yourself to that risk. But I think I also found it a bit frustrating; couldn't find the exit. The general gameplay was alright, and the graphics were nice, but I didn't find the weaponry very satisfying. It made sense to be using that electric thing most of the time, because he isn't there to slaughter dinosaurs, but it was not an exciting weapon and there was little opportunity to use anything else. Perhaps most importantly, having salivated over the screenshots of the T-Rex in magazines I never got to see it, not having progressed far enough. It was the biggest reason for me getting the game! Seeing it now, although it looks good in still shots I think they could have given it more frames of animation.

You can tell the devs really nerded out about the novel. Cool details they didn't need to include, but did such as the computer expecting a certain number of animals and then counting them.

I lived for Jurassic park as a kid! I had some of the toys and the game on amiga which admittedly I found really hard with the respawning enemies and puzzling level design. I had to wait till the level codes came out in a magazine before I could really see any of the game

I managed to get my hands on an image for this game to try out on an Amiga I restored for a client a few years back, and playing this on authentic hardware was an experience. I've tried the DOS version and the Amiga AGA version, and I have to admit the performance was much better than what you're running appears to have, that level 4 slowdown was rough. I had the Super Nintendo version growing up, and the only thing in that version that is superior to all others is the elevator had the best elevator music in any game ever lol
@EpicJasonX90002 жыл бұрын
it's a shame we never got a Jurassic Park game collection compilation release since I've never played the Amiga version as a kid, and it would be nice to have these games brought back in modern times in HD (and with some much needed save states for other console versions). looking at the footage now, I would of loved this back then if I even knew what an Amiga was when this came out. Dean Evans brought a lot to adding the dark, moody atmosphere in his scores since he also did the outstanding soundtrack to the SNES game JP II The Chaos Continues. I also love the added touch of those station screens being in different places throughout the park. I can actually imagine something like that being useful.

This game was so underrated in the gaming press at the time. 60-70% only. To this day it's the best adaptation of a film I've ever played! The atmosphere was extremely dense on the amiga, the 3D sections were exciting like you hadn't experienced before. I think the bad ratings came because the game testers never got past the first 3 levels and simply used the passwords for the remaining levels to have a quick look. The level of difficulty was very very high. But you had to experience the game fully to understand the fascination.

People talk about Ocean and even the JP games like they're bad but generally each iteration seems impressive and downright revolutionary, or at least closer to that rather than the way most seem to speak tonally. Obviously brand deals and such but that should show how well they did when so many more never even tried! This is a game unto itself more a branch from similar base as nes/snes were but that's all to say that the quality in presentation and in tone as well is very high seeing as it definitely wasn't their lone work or concernment.
