Last night I saw Jurassic World Dominion, one of my most anticipated movies of the year. Here is my spoiler free Jurassic World Dominion Movie Review
OFFICIAL UNIVERSAL WRITE UP ON JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION
"The epic conclusion of the Jurassic era. Watch the trailer for #JurassicWorldDominion
This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe.
From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live-and hunt-alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
Jurassic World Dominion, from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, propels the more than $5 billion franchise into daring, uncharted territory, featuring never-seen dinosaurs, breakneck action and astonishing new visual effects.
The film features new cast members DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Emmy nominee Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81), Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Scott Haze (Minari) and Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man 2). The film’s returning cast includes BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez and Omar Sy as Barry Sembenè.
Jurassic World Dominion is directed by Colin Trevorrow, who steered 2015’s Jurassic World to a record-shattering $1.7 billion global box office. The screenplay is by Emily Carmichael (Battle at Big Rock) & Colin Trevorrow from a story by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) & Trevorrow, based on characters created by Michael Crichton. Jurassic World Dominion is produced by acclaimed franchise producers Frank Marshall p.g.a. and Patrick Crowley p.g.a. and is executive produced by legendary, Oscar®-winning franchise creator Steven Spielberg, Alexandra Derbyshire and Colin Trevorrow.
Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment present, in association with Perfect World Pictures, a Colin Trevorrow film. jurassicworld.com "

Here's an alternate pitch: We start the movie with Alan Grant in his tent doing research when someone bursts in screaming and we see this takes place the same night they went loose in FK. The opening 10 min we see everything Alan has worked for destroyed and a chaotic escape compared to the escape Will, Mike and Johnathan made in Stranger Things 4. Alan shows PTSD symptoms as he barely drives away from the chaos. We keep the 4 year jump. We see many cities have been evacuated and people live in special cities designed to protect them. People are starting to accept them as part of nature, but the governments see the decline in economy by letting the creatures live, so they choose the best way is to kill them all. There are those who want the creatures to live, like Claire and Owen while Alan, Ian and Ellie see that this has gone far enough, so they agree to kill them all. There is a group who wants to gather all dinosaurs to open a new park as a middle ground: to let them live while keeping them away. So we still have this adventure all over the world with cool set pieces, with our 2 trios trying to stop them for two different reasons. This can arise the conflict from the first movie and state that we can't play God and also see that we can´t focus on 2 good dinosaurs while the rest of the world suffers because of it. The climax of the movie would be in the park. There they find Blue, who can't recognize any of them and eats Claire, or even Owen, to show nature is unforgiving, this makes them snap out of it while the first trio helps them escape and a day later a helicopter bombs the park. We see a montage of how people took this 'Jurassic era' with some not having learned their lesson and trying to bring back more extinct animals, while others like our survivors staying traumatized and we have a bitter sweet ending with an ending shot of a museum with the skeleton of a T-Rex with a sign reading: "When dinosaurs ruled the Earth".

Gotta be honest, having the old cast is very nostalgic and something I really wished to see in Jurassic World in general, but also I LOVE the bigger array of dinosaurs. Don't really care how much sense that makes or not in connection with the previous movie, but I love it. This looks like it could actually be amazing, also I am a sucker for Dinosaurs in cities...

I don't care about the critics, i watched the movie on June 2 and i really liked it, it has some flaws and editing problems, but is a fun entertaining movie with dinosaurs, the new and old characters are all great, and the action sequences are some of the best of the franchise. Is definitely not the worst of the franchise and is way better than JP3 and FK.

I don't think there can ever be a true sequel to _Jurassic Park_ because that film's biggest trick was to bring dinosaurs back to life. That was the promise of that film's premise, and it nailed it. The first one had awe to match the awful. The films that followed it are mostly horror movies because that's what's left to show out of the idea

@@bayerhead This is a video, and a thread, about the films, not the books. Books are a different thing, black text on white paper. A film on a big screen could present dinosaurs to the world as a living, breathing reality in a way that a book can't, "Wow, that looks amazing." But it's difficult to pull the same "first-time" moment off again. Audiences can't capture that feeling of "wow," which is what made the first film stand out. There can't be a sequel to what was truly amazing about the first film. The sequels can only be a pale reflection of that moment. They're just monster movies

My non-spoiler thoughts: I thought the movie was really good. I really enjoyed it. I felt the one thing I wished they did was have more of a climax. The whole climax was so good and it keeps rising and then the action goes down, but it felt like it wasn’t a big show down action. I kind of wish it was bigger than the previous movies.

without having seen Dominion, here's my ranking of the other 5 films: 1. Jurassic Park- a certified classic with revolutionary effects and a smart story. Some of the CGI is dated and the story can have its cheesy moments but overall it deserves its classic status. 9/10. 2. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom: I honestly don't get the hate for this movie, I think it's well directed, the characters (outside of Justice Smiths character) are much more compelling than in the first world and the horror direction in the last third I thought was gripping and well directed. Most people seem to hate it because of the last act taking place in a house (which I thought was fresh and unique) and that the movie had some dumb moments even though the original park film had plenty dumb scenes too. Anyway, I feel Fallen Kingdom is fun and very well directed in its horror elements and I will continue to defend it. 8/10. 3. The Lost World: Jurassic Park- A very fun movie whose weaknesses lay in the character writing. To put it simply the villains are written as cartoons and the heroes are written as either stupid or unlikable. This was apparently due to the movie having several character building scenes that were cut which is unfortunate. Despite that the movie is still well directed, still has interesting ideas, and the San Diego scene rocks despite its setup being sudden and having many plot holes. Overall a fun and well directed film hurt by the editing process. 7.5/10 4. Jurassic World- While I loved this movie when I first saw it, many flaws have come to my attention over time. Claire and the kid characters are annoying and unlikable. The military subplot was dumb as well as the parents divorced subplot the movie forgot about halfway through. Finally, the CGI is used way too often, even in scenes that could have easily used practical effects with the CGI really starting to look dated. On the flip side, Chris Pratt is great as usual as Owen, the third act is a lot of fun despite being a little too Marvel-esque at points, and the movie has good disaster movie fun in its second half overall. While a mixed bag to me nowadays, the movie is still decent fun. 7/10 5. Jurassic Park 3- To make put it short, dumb and annoying characters, dumb writing, and the movie feels more like a Jurassic Park TV special than an actual theatrical film. 4/10 Overall despite what I'm hearing about Dominion I'm just hoping for some good Dinosaur fun with some aspects to make it stand out such as with the gothic horror of Fallen Kingdom.

@@spaceagepenguin I honestly wouldn't listen to the critics. When they criticize the movie for having dumb scenes (which it does have some) they conveniently ignore that the other JP movies also had dumb scenes and just come off as hypocrites. I feel the movie is at its best in the second half when J.A Bayona is able to show his natural talent with Gothic horror akin to Nosferatu. It's a movie people hate for being different (one of the reasons I like it better than the first JW which felt like just another JP movie, albeit a good one) which is what I personally admire it for. Dominion really looks like it's going to run with being a full blown world disaster movie which is why I'm looking forward too it so much.

Seems to be a recurring thing that started about a decade ago where every movie has to have a cameo now. It started with Marion in kingdom of the crystal skull and now we obviously have the entire comic book genre, Ghostbusters, slashers like Halloween and Scream, Star Wars, and I'm sure it'll happen again in Indiana Jones 5. Very few have pulled it off in a logical way.

I saw the movie almost a week ago, and to be honest it felt like the best of the JW trilogy to me, at least better than FK, i praised the movie having a Thin Plot in comparisson to others, JW writters are not the best plot writters so narrowing that and allowing for growing in other aspects (playing to your strenghts) really clicked for me. However i do share Sean´s opinion over this movie been built on a broke foundation, there´s just so much you can do with those elements playing against you, so instead they build up on the frantic pace of the movie. At the end i liked it but i gota say this movie is one of those where people gonna just either love it or hate, nowdays seems like there´s no middle ground among those and this movie gonna instigate hatred and love

I was not excited when Colin Trevorrow was announced to return to write and direct this film. I thought the first Jurassic World film was fine enough and J.A. Bayona's direction for Fallen Kingdom was good to great, I could not get over how stupid the script was--exemplified by the clone kid's reasoning for releasing the dinosaurs. But the real question I have for you Sean: is Dominion a Taco Bell film?

The modern blockbuster formula for filmmaking (especially to sequels) is. 1. Get all your associates and friends involved in the production, so they'll get a big pay day. 2. Bloat the budget and funnel the money through many contractors to your desired "connected" people. 3. Use an enormous amount of money to advertise your movie and again funnel the money to the desired personnel in this fashion. What about the movie itself? If it is an old "burger" from the old and well liked franchise, it can be sacrificed and be used to make the desired people rich or more wealthy. One of the reasons why Hollywood won't film a competent "one man written/controlled story" for a sequel to something succesful like this Dinosaur franchise, is that there are too many people who want to get in on the money action! A nice extra to their paycheck and some credit (that they can show to do it again) is more desirable, than a great product! Perhaps this Dinosaur franchise has become such a money making vehicle and this time they knew, that the only way to make people really interested in it was to bring back the old cast!

I agree with a lot of your negative points but, to me this is just a fine movie. I liked it. It didn't have anything spectacular or bad but, it was enjoyable to me. One of the points you made though I can't really blame the movie for is the change of pace and 21st century feel. Film franchises that span decades mostly change to what the new fad or pop culture trends are. If you watch all the Terminator films you will see how it's jumped a few genre's and the pacing is completely different. Another great example is Star Wars, the og Trilogy feels a lot different from the prequels and the new Trilogy. That is just how pop culture is changing and in order for movies like these to been seen by the masses they adapt with the times. Great review though.

@@LanderDevosefteling Here is the review I put on the internet: Jurassic World: Dominion is a messy, but fun movie. Seeing the old and new cast and characters interact was just awesome, but the many plotpoints get overwhelming at times, and make it hard to follow along with the story. The dinosaurs don't really get the spotlight, as the movie has a Political Theme going on with life living with the Dinosaurs. The size and scope is the biggest we've ever gotten from a Jurassic Movie, spanning to different continents and locations, which makes for some fun scenes with Dinosaur Chases and Dinosaur. Overall, not what I had in mind to be the epic conclusion to the saga, but still enjoyable

I gotta disagree on your opinion on the genetically modified dinosaurs. I love the fact that they went with a route of combining dinosaurs together to see what would happen. It's something that would happen irl if there was a crazy dinosaur park that over time would get old. In my opinion, I love the direction the jurassic world franchise went, on the same hand, I loved fallen kingdom as well so take that as you will. I respect and totally understand your opinion though!

Fallen Kingdom was trash. More specifically the 2nd half of the movie. The Indominous was perfectly fine. The indoraptor however, was so unnecessary and didn't work nor was able to save the movie. Don't get me started on the auction plot 😬 by far the worst of the whole franchise
@brandonmccoy4872
@brandonmccoy4872 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrshelby7526 I mean I can see where you're coming from, but I enjoyed the sort of horror aspect of the indoraptor and to me, the auction made sense in the grand scheme of this trilogy. The greed of humans for domination is what caused all 3 movies to occur. It's the reason jurassic world failed, it's the reason dinosaurs are now on mainland, etc.
@mrshelby7526
@mrshelby7526 2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonmccoy4872 yeh but where Jurassic World succeeded, Fallen Kingdom fell way flat. And now dominion doesn’t even sound like it focuses on where Fallen Kingdom ended. They needed to scrap the whole genetically modified/cloning aspect after Jurassic world. Dinosaurs should be the main plot!
@brandonmccoy4872
@brandonmccoy4872 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrshelby7526 I'm going to see it today so I can't speak for it right now, but the point of the ending to fallen kingdom was the released dinosaurs so if its man and dinosaur having to deal with eachother, which it seems to be, it should be good. I'm not positive on this, but the indo and indominus were the first true genetically successful dinosaurs created. They didn't have time to do more because of the events in jurassic world.

Where is the tension? Where is the horror? Where is the grounded dialogue? Where is the awe and wonder? Colin Trevorrow has so clearly misunderstood this franchise. I cannot wait for David Koepp, Gareth Edwards and Scarlett Johansson to bring this series back to reality. Clearly Steven Spielberg was unhappy with the direction this trilogy has ended up in and I fully expect Jurassic World 4 to be much more in line with something like Jurassic Park or even The Lost World.

What bothered me is that the end of Fallen Kingdom and the marketing for Dominion, tried to sell us on the idea that we would get a movie where humans would be adapting to dinosaurs roaming the earth. It's false marketing. There has also been a lot of cuts. The previously released Prologue and Short Movie, which were supposed to be the opening of this movie are just completely gone. Ironically those were the only moments where we saw humans adapting to the dinosaurs. Instead we get a quick 30second exposition montage in the beginning of the movie and that's it. Almost the entire movie takes place in a facility in the mountains. Which begs the question: why release the dinosaurs worldwide, call it Dominion, only for most of the movie taking place in a remote and closed nature facility? It doesn't make sense, especially when the dinosaurs are not even the main threat to the planet in this movie.

I really agree with the false marketing. The trailers sold the idea that we would see that "ecological disaster" and that "humans and dinosaurs can't coexist". And this does not happen in the movie. If they were honest about the plot since the beginning, maybe they would not be so review bombed. However, even with those lies, I really enjoyed the movie
