I live in LA. I’ve been in this room. It’s at the top of a recently renovated building in downtown LA. Mostly lofts that all have glass doors that look like 1950’s Detective’s offices. I’ve also met people, who were almost exactly like every single character in this movie. When I first saw this film, I lived in Indianapolis, and I thought they were all pretty outrageous characters. Now that I live in LA…they seem VERY plausible.

I always was puzzled as to why the Coen Bros included Knox Harrington's character. i think I may have figured that out. When Knox laugh's, it's almost as if he laughing at the Dude's life. He is a video artist, and if he were making a video of the Dude's life and the naivete if the Dude's pursuit of Bunny and the whole mess he got himself in, it would be funny..in a way Knox would be a "God" laughing at everything the Dude is going through and remarking,"Dude, you have no clue as to what is really going on!"

No, dude- it’s so Maude has someone with whom to associate and lead into the phone call, creating the humorous effect of the Dude just standing there while the other two cackle at some inside joke.
