Something about Civ 1: - Barracks and granary always - Civs don't have special attributes. That wasn't introduced until later. - AI is wonderfully buggy and hyper aggressive at times. - You could build everything (wonders included) in one city. - Don't stack units, go wide. If one dies, they all die. - Roads are your friend for getting units out for defense. - Many cities = more of a juggle than other Civ games. But they are figuring that out now.😅

Seconded the non-stacking of units. Big no-no. I don't think the defense of the phalanx counts either if they put it on there.

Maybe it's just because I played the Earth map a lot, but it did feel like there was a little bit of uniqueness between civs. I'm pretty sure on Babylonians started with two settlers, maybe just on that map, or maybe just random chance.

What about in cities do they have to kill all the units in the city to take it?
@OriginalPiMan
@OriginalPiMan Жыл бұрын
@@Shadow-bk1im Yes. Units in cities die one at a time, and the population is reduced by 1 with each attack unless the city has walls. When the city is empty it can be entered. If the city has enough units in it, it might be destroyed utterly first.

As much as I'm loving seeing you guys discover things on your own, there is one thing that I feel is VITALLY important to tell you: DO NOT CREATE UNIT STACKS!!!!!!! Combat is a single die roll in this game, so is incredibly luck-based, and (except for in cities) any defensive loss instantly wipes out ALL units in the tile. Keep your units on separate tiles whenever possible, so that any attack can only kill one of them at a time. If you want to defend your chariots with phalanx, keep the chariots BEHIND the phalanx. That way, whether the phalanx wins its battle or not, the chariots are alive.

The 0.5.5 next to your money is: Luxury rate / Tech rate / Tax rate (all in percentages). You might want to tweak it. Corruption will show up as 'red yields' in cities depending on how far a city is from the capital and your government type. Yes, you can change governments, and you should. You definitely have Monarchy already, it gives extra yields. edit: just watched till the end, better late than never. btw I think you need temples for happiness.

Corruption is Civ 1's version of loyalty. If you have a lot of cities and/or units far from the capital, the cities begin to corrupt and you lose control of them, and their production goes down (angry citizens won't do anything). Courthouses and units fortified in the cities help fight the corruption. If the corruption gets too high the city will spawn barbarians equivalent to the level of corruption, and there's a risk the city rebels and become a barbarian settlement. The game will tell you when you're about to lose control of a city to corruption, but when you get that warning, you need to shove military into the city to knock it down, and then focus on building/doing stuff that brings the corruption down. This whole corruption system is not very well done, Civ 2 greatly improved upon it, and of course in Civ 3 it was replaced by the cultural influence system which has involved into the loyalty and culture pressure system in Civ 6
@DanielPicardCA
@DanielPicardCA Жыл бұрын
That would make sense, but in Civ 1 corruption has to do with trade. The bigger the city, the more trade potential, the more corruption and lost trade, except for your capital which doesn’t have corruption because of the palace, unless you’re using Communism. A courthouse reduces this, or switching to Democracy. Loyalty is represented by happiness. A temple reduces unhappiness as well as adding a military unit. I could go on having grown up with this game. Terraforming is possible, changing forest, jungle, swamp into grassland or plains, by using a settler to mine or irrigate them.

The old games fit really well with the atmosphere of the Yogs IMO (Xcom and this for example). I hope after Civ that Lewis and Duncan can play through some of the Anno games and then have a co-op/multiplayer game with one of the newer ones with some of the crew. I've always felt Anno's city builder focus, military second, type of gameplay would suit their play style better. Still think they should disable the pixel rendering and just have it upscale for the original crisp goodness of VGA era pixel art. Maybe enough people will have mentioned that to be noticed for the next series.
