I have a ‘17 Silverado 1500 Z71 4wd 8spd with stock 3.42 gears. I was looking into doing a 6.5” lift and 35’s. I was suggested 4.56 and 4.88 gears by two different companies. I do a lot more “on road” driving than I do off-road. And pull a camper maybe once a year

I run 4.88's on my 91 GMC Sierra 305.5spd regular cab on 34 mudders. Best upgrade I ever did, Beside lockers. And I can still get 26mpg highway at 65mph.

You should get better gas mileage in the city. The motor isn’t struggling as much to get up to speed. Less drag equals better mileage

Hey man. Nice video. I daily my 2 door jk with 33s. Off road sometimes but not too often. Should I go 4:56 or 4:88? I know 4:88 will have higher rpm on high ways. Thanks in advance.
@mericaeveryday11 ай бұрын
With 33s you might want to look at 4:10s. My personal opinion is 4:56 for 35’s and 4:88 for 37’s I do have a lot of friends with rubis that are running 37’s and 4:10s

If I remember correctly the gears were about 550 that’s with the most rebuild kits front and rear and a new carrier for the front. And I believe the install was about 350 an axle.
@DustySteel3 жыл бұрын
@@mericaeveryday so $1250 for front and rear? I think I might also try and save up to do LSD in the rear and selectable lockers in the front at the same time as the gears to hopefully save money.

I bumped up to the 5.13s on a 98 tahoe with grizzly lockers sitting on 38 mudders..kinda mehh about it. Lots of good but I eat gas like it's a hobby. .

Can I ask for some help/advice, I currently have 37s on my 2018 f150 with the 10 speed, I am still undecide what it's a better option for me 4.56 or 4.88? I also tow my rv maybe twice a year for work.
@mericaeveryday4 жыл бұрын
Not super familiar with the 10 speed transmission. I can say that on a JL I would go 4.56 not 4.88 or even higher than 4.56 because it has a 8 speed and 1st is a really low gear. As far as towing the RV and that selection it would come down to weight, up hill, down hill all those factors. I would look into one of the forums for the ford trucks and search and see what others with that set up use. They could probably be far more helpful than I could. I am more of a one trick pony with the Jeep. And I would def hate to steer you you in the wrong direction.

Ok hope someone can help me out, i installed an 8 inch lift last week. Tire size is 35x12.5r20 and on the way back home i felt the truck heavy like if i was pulling something not that heavy but i felt the difference. Anyways i noticed that on the last gear around 65 and up, i noticed that every small hill would make my truck go in overdrive. Something that didnt happen before so i was checking the internet and saw that i needed to change my differ. Gears to bring it to stock due to bigger tires. It currently has the 3.42 gear ratio and based on the chart it asks for 3.92 gears. Does that make a difference or what can i do.
@mericaeveryday6 жыл бұрын
Yes a Gear change will help you out! Bigger tires and larger wheels add more mass for the drive line to turn. A gear swap will get rid of the feeling of towing that you feel. Also make sure to check not sure what you drive but take a look into making sure the ECU is set for tire size and wheel size. Hope it helps.

merica_every_day i drive a 2015 sierra 1500 and how would i check that ? ECU tire and wheel size. you mean like adjusting it to match the speedometer? Please i want to learn. Thank you

Nestor Vazquez look into a programmer. I think Chevy allows you to change it in the cluster settings my brothers Silverado had it set up that way, but can’t remember the year of his truck think it was a 15 or 16 I think he had in his dash cluster and could change a lot of settings from there, but don’t hold me to that. Or find a solid off road shop that deals with lifts and so on and swing it bye there man or see if there is a video on KZbin about a gear swap. Nestor Vazquez

Any other issues installing 4.88 on Taco SR5? Need to beef up other parts to handle the added torque? 8in diff okay to handle that added torque?
@taylorcampbell9855 жыл бұрын
Did you get 4.88 because you were going to 37’s eventually?
@mericaeveryday5 жыл бұрын
I was looking at going 37's and did go 4.88 to future proof the tires. I am now going to 38's so still works out. Honestly I would say if you are not going 37's I would run 4.10 or maybe 4.56 just to save on the around town gas and RPM range. But it all really depends on what you want to do.
@taylorcampbell9855 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of doing 4.56 gears for my 35’s rn gonna have them for another year or so and thinking it will still be good with 37’s

@mericaeveryday6 жыл бұрын
Depends. We plan on going bigger tires so I would with knowing we are going to go to 38's. If we decided to stay with 35's I would go 4.56. Those are just my thoughts.
