Ah - pretty clever on the detective work there Darren. I tried it last night and was wondering what the names of the emulations were. Now it has me wondering what the other ones are hinting at. When you did the side by side this time, the film look creator actually looked more filmic to me because of the subdued highlights. Would be nice if they let us save our fav settings and choose them in the dropdown. I know that we can make a powergrade of each, but it's nice having it with easier access right on the OFX itself. Maybe that will come in a new update in the future. Thanks for the quick video.

haha - I knew Rochester was Kodak - had to google the fujifilm to see if my theory was right! I think its a nice natural look too, Im still getting used to it though. I still prefer Dehancers look - I now dont care which is closer to Kodak or not - I just want the best look for my images.

FWIW I've been editing and coloring in the beta for a few weeks now. I haven't had any issues.

Ive been using Resolve since 2010. This is not expected out of beta until September/Oct/Nov if the other beta's are anything to go by. This is normal.

I graded a full 60min broadcast documentary over 2 days with 14 layers linked to camera rushes and exported with handles, full FX, dehancer etc, NO ISSUES. 19 Beta v 4

Does the film look creator replace Film Box and Dehancer? The plugins look slightly better but surely some time in the film look creator and you can save money ...

Thanks for the update. Can you give us some sources like(books) for learning the art of color grading, besides learning tools? I'm good at using the software but when I look at a footage, I don't know what to do with it. I can just correct it, but during grading I don't know what to do with it. I want your opinion, on what should I have to learn to become a good colorist like you.

Hey Darren, thank you for all the great info. Do you by any chance know how to convert a film negative to rec709? I am shooting photos and use negative lab pro to convert them but want to convert them in Davinci going forward, just don’t know how.

@@DarrenMostyn Thanks for the reply. I have tried the dehancer on a project of mine. Now I am just rewatching the entire video over and over again (quite short, 60 seconds) just to look at the beautiful colours and contrast the dehancer creates. For a feature video, could you do a deep dive in dehancer? I know they have their own video which is good, but always love to se input by other colourists.

Hi! I've pretty much offtopic question - Do You use any sort of eyecare coating on Your glasses (eg. antiglare, anti-reflective ect.)? I will start to wear ones soon and I'm not sure if this is something I should avoid, or eye adaptation will mitigate those slight color shifts coming from coatings? BTW. Even when trying on glasses without any coatings I saw decent boost in contrast and saturation, as those fixed up my astigmastism. I didnt expect that vision defects could influence color perception so much 😮

My glasses are non-reflective ZEISS lenses, of course not coloured or any anti-computer glare as that is not good. I get zero issues, I have a very light prescription and they are measured slightly further than reading as my monitor is further than reading. I measure the distance for my optician and they set to that.

Dehancer gas a useful tool named film compression. Does the film look creator have something similar?

If you create a matte of the clip in your node tree, and adjust highlights that way, it’s similar to film compression, but not as good.

I love grading, but often feel like human eyes generally dont care about minor colour differences. My ex used to say "how can you even see the last scene was more yellow than the next scene" :')

Im not sure on its colour science - I cant get a straight answer. Its not colour space aware as far as Im aware so best use it in DWG and let the colour management handle ST2084 etc.

Its correct to say version 19. It wont say beta 5. See if film look creator has the options in this episode? Then you’ll know.
