Never overlooked this guy .. he assisted on about 60% of Ronaldo’s World Cup goals . I don’t think Brazil would win 2002 without him .. not even with Ronaldo being how great he is . Rivaldo and Ronaldo is one of the greatest forward pairs in history !!

Totally agree, he was more decisive in the final 2-0 with German than Ronaldo, both goals he was involved, few people realize that. Ronaldo was an amazing striker, but without Rivaldo he wouldn't have striked as much.

we had him at Deportivo just one season. This guy was INCREDIBLE. I love his story, how down to earth he is, humble, yet driven to the max. For the people that does not know, Rivaldo made a promise to his father in his deathbed, that he would become a professional football player. And not only did that, but won just about every throphy. Rivaldo is every inch as good as Zidane.

@albertorodriguezfernandez5956
@albertorodriguezfernandez5956 2 жыл бұрын
@@scp3799 If we are based on statistics Rivaldo was better yes. But if you look into the overall influence, Zidane was more of a playmaker, Rivaldo was capable to score more. Both were decisive players and won more or less the same Internationally. Zidane, in his prime, was unbelievable, he cannot be overlooked. The only thing that, in my opinion, Rivaldo was way better than Zidane is that he TRULY loved to play. To play in your late 30's, early 40's...that's really hard. Because you have to stay fit, you loose most of the speed...Rivaldo went through all that in good leagues and played Champions league in his late 30's....and was still decisive, still scoring goals. Zidane retired with 34 years old...and he retired in a manner that was extremely irresponsible.

@@albertorodriguezfernandez5956 For me Zidane is overrated. He is put on a pedestal because he had some memorable performances in important international tournaments like the world cup and the euro. I can’t rate him like Rivaldo who also was great for his national team and much better for his clubs. Zidane was inconsistent and forgettable for his clubs. He didn’t have a single full season of great play. I can give you multiple Rivaldo seasons that destroy Zidane’s best club season. Zidane was totally overrated.

Actually Ronaldo didn' t had his best match in that final in my opinion . I watched the full match again a few months ago and to me he seemed some kind of a bit nervous because he missed many clear chances . A striker of his caliber should have scored 4 or 5 goals in that match given the many clear chances he had . But Rivaldo and Ronaldinho Gaúcho created opportunity after opportunity so he still ended up scoring two goals .

Congrats on the recent success. Well deserved. One thing though: I was under the impression that the issue with van Gaal was that he wanted Rivaldo to play wide but stay wide - he was big on structure and didn't like wingers drifting inside and possibly hurting the team's attacking width. Rivaldo himself wanted a more central attacking role - either as a drifting inside winger or as a number 10. I wasn't watching La Liga regularly at the time so, as with my comment on your other video, I'm willing to admit I might be wrong. But that was the impression I had.

Yes rivaldo asked to talk to the team and demanded that he play as a number 10 so van gaal said sure, but in the second team. Players like guardiola asked van gaal to let rivaldo play at number 10 as Barcelona stopped winning and scoring goals. This shows how important rivaldo was to Barcelona

He won the Copa America in 99 with a stunning performance, Liga champions 98 and 99 with Barcelona and took the team on his back, he was less important but still won the Champions League with AC Milan in 2003 ... He had all the major cups in his vitrine !! Rivaldo scored 440 goals in 840 matchs, when Zidane scored 160 goals in 828 matchs ... How is he? There were three teams recently listed consisting of the best players ever and Rivaldo didn't make it. When lesser players in Xavi, Henry and Ronaldinho did. I started playing football because of Rivaldo. His left foot was devilish and he's always present in big games (Brazil or Barca). He had temper and will never fake injuries and roll 20 times on the ground. His game against Valencia summarizes his career, which was great (world champ). He made a name for himself during a time where the best 9 in history was on the pitch with him (Ronaldo). He's indeed, one of the best in the history of this sport.

Rivaldo was a coaches favorite lapdog. He was very proficient for the Brazil offense. Think about it, he played in Brazil's 2nd golden era with offensive players like Romario, Jardel, Edmundo, R9, R10, Tulio, Giovanni, Luizao and Bebeto. He had horrible management. He would of fit perfect in the EPL. It's a shame the CBF never gave him a farewell game.

To me he is the master that handed Ronaldo half his goals in a plate just to finish the play,while he made everything by himself when he had to and made the difference.Brazil from 1996-2003 was great because of him.If he wasn't there that great team would be like an orchestra without a conductor.And what a great conductor he was!!!He played at the twilight of his career for 1 year in my team AEK Athens in Greece.We still remember him and feel deeply honored that a legend of his caliber played for our team.We practically won the championship that year that was removed in courts by a disgusting decision that helped Olympiacos get the championship outside the football courts. He felt disgusted after that and left Greece. We will never forget him.He is the greatest player that ever played for our club.
