David got up to 238 lbs and by the time filming started he had dropped down to 228. It's possible the suit was fitted to him when he was a bit bigger and since it's mostly likely made by Martha, Gunn figured the slight bagginess to it would fit with something that Martha would be able to make using Earth materials that are not lycra or spandex or actual tights. It looks like a motocross suit that's been re-purposed, and I could see Martha making the costume out of something like that. Or, maybe we'll get a flashback to young Clark having a dirt bike or something. He rode one with Pete Ross on Smallville, so maybe when he needed a suit, Martha took his old suit and modified it. Or, the suit is baggy so David can breathe better and move around unhindered and they'll tighten it up in post-production.

it's fixed in post. nobody acts in tight suits anymore otherwise the suit would break or the actor is too stiff in movement. remember michael keaton's batman suit. dude was moving like a robot.
