You never purged your line before you put your freeon in the system not good now you got air in the system

Should have purged the fill line

Came across this as I’m looking to buy an older vehicle from a gentleman that also remembers back when “you just need freon”… I didn’t know there was an r12 alternative. Saved me some cash from getting it converted. Now all I need is to find non ethanol fuel and I feel confident purchasing it

The compressor is SUPPOSED to cycle on and off. Read the service book. It goes until it reaches a certain pressure and then cuts off for a period and then goes back on. The cycling pressures on/off set points are adjustable, as per the manual. The is shade tree mechanics.

Could you do a short video on topping off with Redtek while the system is pressurized and not evacuated .just a top off from the low pressure side

When the opportunity presents itself I will!

Very good! 12a is sold under a number of brand names like Duracool, Frostycool, Envirocool and of course Redtek. I use it in my classic Camaro as a R12 replacement, it cools very well and is none ozone depleting.

It would have been good to show your high and low pressure measurements once charging was stopped. These HC refrigerants are retro-fills and so operating pressures may be different from factory spec. Can you recall what they were?
@Arthur-hg7ny6 ай бұрын
Can you just get the red Tek recharge kit and run the hose from the can to schrader valve on the low side without having to evacuate everything?
@DeLoreanTECH5 ай бұрын
You can but it may not perform as well. I recommend pulling the vaccuum to check leaks and then at least 2 cans. Optimally 2.5 cans

Redtek is the way to go

Agreed! I recharged my car 2 years ago with red tek and have never had to top it off or recharge, and I drive the car a lot.

You didn't bleed your charge line before opening the blue valve. Air in the system now.
@michelmillette92183 жыл бұрын
And did it with the two cans....
@jasonhobbs3112 жыл бұрын
I saw that too. I was waiting in anticipation..."is he gonna purge the air out of the charge line? He's got the bleed screw right there on his manifold gauge...won't take but a second to do it.. Is he gonna do it? Is he gonna do it? Nope. Doh!

I think that I will try this in my 1987 Corvette. I just charged my AC system with 134a it's cool air😟, not ice cold 🥶 like R12....I remember when you could buy R12 at K-Mart for 99cents per can!
@riumplus4 жыл бұрын
Having a DeLorean that uses R-134a has one pretty large advantage over R-12 and other refrigerants compatible with R-12 that you didn't mention... Some countries don't allow you to import a vehicle that contains air conditioning equipment that is designed to be used with/compatible with R-12, even if it's running an alternative compatible refrigerant. Without converting or stripping it out, you won't be importing your car

Good point!

What’s wrong with 134-A? I run it in my DeLorean and I actually just topped up with a can a couple of weeks ago. Blows nice and cold and I’ve never had any issues.
@DeLoreanTECH4 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with 134a, it's the DeLorean's stock A/C system that is the issue. Not rated for R-134a, unless you've done a proper conversion. I recommend reading the description and Hagerty article in the description. I've gone through an R134a overpressure in my DeLorean, so first hand experience. I ran it without issue for almost a year.

I notice that the AC doesn't cycle. Isn't it supposed to? I've read 8 seconds on, 2 seconds off. At that ratio, my AC doesn't get that cold though.
@DeLoreanTECH4 ай бұрын
It does. You may have seen the part when i jumpered the compressor to direct 12V for the recharge. Normally it does cycle.

When we talk about caring so much for pumps. Your vacuum pump sounds like it's screaming "I'm about to faaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiil ! "

Thoughts on people saying that the R-12a is just a butane and propane mix and therefore a dangerous product to use in an AC system?
@seanwieland97632 жыл бұрын
R-1234yf is even more flammable, and that’s the refrigerant required to replace R-134a in all newer cars. Not to mention that the price will gouge you.

About the quantity of cans you mentioned... be careful -- you have some conversions to do. My car, for instance, takes 2.25lb of R12. RedTek states their equivalent weight ON THE CAN... it states that one 6oz can of RedTek is equivalent to 16oz of R134a. You still have to convert R12 weight to R134a weight. My car's 2.25lb R12 system would only hold 1.775lb of R134a ([R12 lb x 0.9] - 0.25 = R134a weight, then convert lbs to oz). That being said, my cars 2.25lb R12 system needs less than 30oz of R134a, which less than 12oz of RedTek (less than 2 cans). Make sure youre doing your conversions beforehand to ensure a proper fill to maximize efficiency.
@DeLoreanTECH Жыл бұрын
Correct. Based on original R12 specs it is approx 2.5 cans per recharge with RedTek on a stock DeLorean AC system
@PatrickMersinger Жыл бұрын
You need to get the Delorean up to 88mph, go back in time, and bleed that yellow line each time you begin a can. Air in system.

im thinking about putting this i a old car thats still got all r12 parts is it close to as cold as r12 or closer to 134a cold last r12 i converted to 134a it woulnt get colder then 55 out the vents becouse of the r12 condenser
@DeLoreanTECH4 жыл бұрын
It's closer to R12 cold. I've never had R12 in my car so I can't say for sure, but it runs colder than R134a for sure. My understanding is that R12 runs colder than R134a in these cars. Red Tek definitely runs colder than R134a in the DeLorean. I've had both...and the Red Tek stays in!

This video is so totally wrong. First he say he is replacing the 134a. What did he do to the refrigerant in the car ? Let out into the environment ? By the way, this is illegal !! And the he shows us @ 1.38, r12 connections on the compressor. If the car had 134a in it the connection would have already been there. You cannot install 134a into a system with out the proper equipment and also if this was done before, why would anyone remove the adapters. The're cheap.. SO MUCH WRONG I can't go on
@DeLoreanTECH3 жыл бұрын
The owner took the car and had the system properly evacuated/purged of refrigerant at a licensed facility before we did the recharge. The fellow who charged the system with 134a did not leave the 134a adapter fitting(s) on the service ports on the compressor (not sure why). You do not need to retrofit the R12 service ports permanently to install 134a. You can actually remove them and just put the R12 caps back on. On my own personal car I have a 134a adapter on the low side to use with quick disconnects. I do not use an adapter for the high side.
