"just testing..." episode 2. Includes an interview with former Alice Cooper Group guitarist Glen Buxton at his home in Clarion, Iowa. Also featuring the band Roadhouse live on stage in Owatonna, Minnesota. This was seen on local cable access in Rochester, Austin and Albert Lea, Minnesota in May of 1996.
Here is a blog entry about this interview, for more information: lonesomeroadie.silvrback.com/l...
This was our first production with Glen. He worked with us occasionally for about two years, until he passed away in 1997.

I got to know Glen well when he came to live on the farm with my former husband. As my two boys stayed at their dads while I was at work, I would come once a week to help with house cleaning and laundry. Glen would dry dishes as I washed them and I got to know him well! He really had such a gentle soul! We Laughed often and that's one thing I never forget is the sound of his laugh!!! I truly believe he found the peace and happiness he had been searching for !!!

Cheryl Nelson -l am 60yrs old and a Christian, who 'grew up' during the 1970's and I was TOTALLY enamoured and consumed by the ALICE COOPER BAND as a teenager, but oddly enough I never got to see them in concert. I find it so interesting that you got to know Glen Buxton. I always thought of them as a GROUP and when they split up I lost interest in the Alice Cooper concept. I never really knew what happened to Glen and then after he passed, l started to get the idea that he had gone full circle and had REALLY learned the ups and downs of life. I hope that he died with a knowledge of Jesus Christ(as Alice, himself, declares Christianity) and just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience of knowing one of my ROCK HEROES.

I tell people this story and I think they don't believe it. Bob Carlson was Glen's cousin and I was good friends with him and that's how that all went down. Also got to play his iconic white SG... I met Glen in 1987 when I was living in Phoenix (ironically I moved there from Iowa, not too terrible far from Clarion where this interview was filmed). He was living with in a house with a bunch of local Phoenix musicians, one of which was the step-son of my dad’s friend. Glen was selling a couch and I needed one, so I went to the house, met Glen, shook his hand, and paid him $40 for the couch (cool guy!). Surreal now in retrospect! Ha! Found several guitar picks in that couch after I got it home. :) Wish I’d have not lost them over the years. Thanks for posting this interview.

You can hear the strain smoking has put on Glenn's lungs, there is only one Keith Richards that can do that for 75 years and still be alive, but with smoker's I know I was one for too long the lungs get very weak and can not fight off a cold and it always goes right to the weakest place in the body to live, once a person gets Pnumonia it's 50/50 on whether they survive or not they drown basically it's pretty ugly if you smoke better to quit and get em strong the lungs can heal but not when they are under attack they have to stay healthy in order to make the trip, Loved this band, Neil found the body to Glen's Sg and had it restored to it's former glory, it's to bad we can't do that with people, but like another Neil says, once your gone you can't come back.

I personally find it unsettling that at one point in his life he's making $5000.00 a week (early 1970's by the way) and playing in front of 150,000 people, and 20 years later he's in a farmhouse in Iowa. I love the dude; he was always my favorite of the original lineup. But, to me, something speaks of loneliness. His "Cold Room" was eerily childlike with pictures taped to the walls, like a teenager's room. I truly hope he was happy and content. He was an enigma, for certain!! Good old G.B. he's in Heaven playing Coop songs!! He's got some dirty words in his desk! Well, now it's time for recess!

I have been a fan of the ORIGINAL Alice Cooper band for 47or48 yrs and was SO SORRY about Glen's death(I didn't know until a few years after). I was ALWAYS hoping for a reunion after Alice went solo and all the legal issues. I lost interest in SOLO Alice in the late '70s, but have started to get interested in the recent activity and hope that the surviving members release something new. Alice Cooper never had the same appeal to me after the breakup of the Alice Cooper Group. It was never an Alice only thing for me ........I loved the whole band: Alice, Glen, Michael, Dennis and Neil. I Love Live From The Astroturf, and it is only lacking Glen to make completely special ! In 2007, my oldest son with autism was going to see Alice in a place that usually gets him backstage to meet the musicians. He told me he wanted to take one of my original ACG albums with him and I gave him Love It To Death with the explicit orders to ONLY let Alice sign it. I was at another concert in another town. He still doesn`t get why I was so pissed off when I got home and found only one signature on it. That of Keri Kelli. I should have never let him take it ! R.ock I.n P.aradise Glen. They were a great band - but Alice had to end it when he did. Let's not forget, Buxton couldn't play on all of Billion Dollar Babies, and hardly any of Muscle of Love. He was too far down the rabbit hole of drug addiction. The band was diseased at that point. Wagner had to play Buxton's parts live, and for many people Muscle of Love was a huge step down from BDB (personally I really like MOL, though). Basically, as good as the original band was, it was dysfunctional in the end.

BDB was the beginning of the end. Love It To Death Killer School’s Out Those are the best. I do like MOL better than BDB. Michael’s Hard Hearted Alice is a great and beautiful song. Muscle Of Love is a great song.

17:27 Is that Donovan's guitar? If so it must have been when the band was recording "BDB". Just a guess. Thanks Glen for all the musical gifts.

The reason it's not Gene Simmons is because he actually took of himself. So how about instead of wishing death on someone else, you instead wish Buxton had taken better care of himself so he could still be here, ok? Besides if you wanna wish death on someone, wish it on Elton John, Billie Joel, Styx, blah blah blah.

Eric Presley If you're talking about the videos of the band playing live at a bar in Iowa, that is not Glen - it's the Iowa band Roadhouse. The lead singer/guitarist was Mike Flynn. Mike and Glen got together and (briefly) formed the band Buxton-Flynn about a year later. You can read about this in our blog post about this video here: lonesomeroadie.silvrback.com/lonesome-roadie-meets-glen-buxton
