Reaction to Just when i needed you most by Randy Vanwarmer.
One of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. His voice was perfect for this song.He sounded so fragile and vulnerable.
To make it worse,i learnt that Vanwarmer died young.
A sad song and a sad ending.

Yes sadly, Randy Vanwarmer is no longer with us. He died on January 12, 2004 while being treated for leukemia. I loved this song from the first time I heard it in 1979.

Randy was married for 22 years. They didn't have any children. Randy arranged for his wife to get full royalties from "Just When I Needed You Most." Unfortunately she had to go through court battles to get what was hers, but she had lots of support from her mother-in-law and brothers -in-law. Dearest Randy, Rest in Peace. 🙏✝️🙏

Randy Van Warmer wrote this mellow favorite when he was just 18. It's a heartbreaker, inspired by a girl who dumped him when he was at his most delicate. He died in 2004 at age 48 after a battle with leukemia.

He was born in Colorado. At 15, three years after the death of his father in an automobile accident, he moved with his mother to Cornwall, England. His experiences there inspired "Just When I Needed You Most". Oddly, Albert Grossman, the head of Bearsville Records, would not let him do television or tour the United States, a strategy that did not prove successful.

Somehow he intriqued me, don't know why, feels like he not only sound like an angel but he sure was one. I can't remember i ever seen him on television because i was so young back then but later on i could watch it here. I must have to listen to this song so many times, over and over. I was in middle school when this song was released and instantly fell in love with it. The back story to this song: two events happened very close together 1) Randy had a car that he owned for a long time that he loved that broke down beyond repair when he was going to work and 2) he had a girlfriend that left him suddenly. A short time later he wrote this song with these 2 events in mind, and recorded it. He was surprised by the success of this song.

Dolly Parton did a really great cover of this. She was backed by Alison Krauss and John Sebastian. Check it out. You won’t regret it.
