You're absolutely right! Both Angelina Jordan and Diana have voices that possess a maturity and depth beyond their young ages. It's incredible to witness such young performers showcase such talent, skill, and emotional range in their voices. Angelina's voice, in particular, has been praised for its soulful quality and the way she effortlessly transitions between registers. Her ability to convey complex emotions and capture the essence of a song is truly remarkable.

One of the things I love about her performances is her musical prosody, if that's the right expression. Each lyric, often each syllable, is wonderfully colored in a way to lay bare the emotional content. She may use runs, scoops, vibrato, rasp, timbre, tone, etc., skillfully, but to me, her genius is in the where and how. If she sings the word "pain", she colors it to feel like pain. Every word. It makes the song come alive. It draws you in.
@alberttenfoot

Thank you for introducing me to a new word. Looked it up and there are three meanings given. The most appropriate one is: "The study of poetic meter and the art of versification" which is very accurate. I would like to copy your comment into my Angelina Notes folder for future reference. Is this O.K. by you? The sentence. "If she sings the word "pain", she colors it to feel like pain" is scarily true. 😀
@barryoconnor568
@barryoconnor568 Жыл бұрын
@@alberttenfoot copy anything, Albert. If I were more organized, it would be an interesting project to keep track of some of the most effective parts of her "prosody". The way she says "grey" in California Dreaming", for instance, accurately nails the entire song. "Insane" in Born to Die". "Drown" in I'm Still Holding Out For You". An impossible project, really, because every lyric is designed.
@TheWordSmith365
@TheWordSmith365 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! You've expressed it beautifully. Angelina's musical prosody, as you've described it, is indeed a remarkable aspect of her performances. She has a remarkable ability to infuse each lyric, each syllable, with emotional depth and meaning, using various vocal techniques to convey the intended emotions in the song. You're absolutely right that her genius lies in the where and how she applies these techniques. It's not just about the runs, scoops, vibrato, rasp, timbre, and tone, but also about how she carefully selects and uses them to enhance the emotional impact of each word and phrase. Whether it's adding a subtle vibrato to evoke tenderness or using rasp to convey pain, you can feel the emotional authenticity and connection in her delivery. This attention to musical prosody is what truly sets Angelina apart as a vocalist. It allows her to create a deeply immersive experience for the listener, drawing them in and making them feel every word and emotion she is conveying. It's a testament to her incredible artistry and talent. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this aspect of Angelina's performances. It's truly a joy to discuss and appreciate the intricacies of her musicality and the way she brings songs to life through her masterful delivery.

You’ll hear something like my comment over and over: I’m in my seventies and I’ve followed music all my life. Without any reservation, Angelina is the best singer I’ve ever heard. Despite all the great singers and music I’ve heard, there has never been a singer I’ve listened to every day. I’ve listened to her songs for years, and I still feel the emotion every time. And I understand the real meaning of the lyrics in a way the original artists never tried to do. What you don’t know yet is that her effortless delivery and amazing musicality covers many different genres. You have dozens and dozens of songs ahead of you, starting from age 7, that will stun you again and again. And one last suggestion: don’t say you’ve just heard your favorite Angelina song.

Spot-on as always. You truly are a "wordsmith," so well-spoken and precise. Angelina Summertime (7) and Feeling Good (10) will amaze you. Hope you get back to Diana Ankudinova with Wicked Game, Derniere Danse, and Rechenka to analyze "dramatic contralto with polyphonic overtones" at 14-16 yrs. Rechenka (little river) is comprised of Russian folk tales about an orphan who's being given away in marriage to the unloved, and comes to the river, border between the living and the dead, to ask blessings from her deceased mother. More poignant considering Diana's backstory: beaten, abused, and nearly killed by her birth mother, abandoned at a bus stop in winter with a broken collarbone, brought to an orphanage speechless at 3 1/2, learned to sing as speech therapy, and adopted by a loving family. Twice won "You Are Super," contest for abused / underprivileged children largely underwritten by Igor Krutoy, who later bought an apartment in Moscow for her forever family and secured a spot at university to continue her musical studies and training, clearly demonstrated by her later performance of Can't Help Falling In Love and Crow. Amazing what Love and music can do for a child. I have closely followed Dimash, Diana, and Angelina for ~7 yrs, and you know why! There's no one better at reactor analysis than you, even more impressive that you do it all!

Wonderful analysis, thank you. With this version Angelina has really reinterpreted the beauty, the color, the voice, the style of a legendary song and of exceptional songwriter, she has created a little yellow jewel "made in Angelina" (also with her t-shirt printed with her photo at the age of 7 at NGT). This girl has an absolutely unique talent and taste and she is not afraid of anything, there are no impossible songs for her, she will find a way to transform them with her extraordinary musical intelligence. Angelina is pure musical poetry and her vocal runs are unreal. 💛🧡❤

Hello, fellow Angelina Angel! It's wonderful to have you as a new subscriber to our channel, and thank you for your passionate and heartfelt analysis of Angelina Jordan. Your love and admiration for her truly shine through in your words. Angelina's ability to slip into the role and color of a song, bringing authenticity and emotional depth to her performances, is truly remarkable. Her talent goes beyond just her phenomenal voice; she connects with the lyrics and delivers them in a way that feels genuine. It's amazing to hear that her music has had such a profound impact on you as a music professional. You're absolutely right that Angelina brings a fresh style and hope to the music industry. Her renditions and original songs are beautifully crafted and have the power to touch hearts and souls. It's clear that she holds a special place in your music world and life. Thank you for mentioning your AJ Angels, who have become good friends through the shared love for Angelina and her music. It's heartwarming to see how Angelina brings people together. Regarding your question about scoops or melismas, you're correct that they are not the same. Scoops are quick glides or slides between notes, often used for stylistic effect, while melismas are the singing of a single syllable of text while moving between several different notes. Both techniques can add flair and expressiveness to a performance. Once again, thank you for your heartfelt message and kind wishes. We wish you a happy and fulfilling New Year as well. May the year ahead be filled with love, goodness, luck, health, kindness, peace, freedom, and beautiful music. Farewell, my fellow Angelina Angel! 🇨🇭🙋‍♂️

@@TheWordSmith365 Hello Carl, my professional Angelina Mitengel 😇Thank you for your brilliant professional explanations, I've learned another new musical 🎶expression! So far, no vocal Coatch has pointed to these music verb scoops in his Angelina music video Rection. Everyone only talks about riffs, 2-3 longer notes and riffs with very long note hold and of course the beautiful stylistic melismas which, by the way, so you know that Angelina at 4 or 5 years old as a child! where she lived with her grandmother in Iran for a while!! learned that there!! because in Arabic, Turkish, Greek and Spanish countries most songs are sung with melismas🎶!! And there Angelina sang along and learned it as a prodigy child! Nordic cultures sing much less melismatically 🎶!!! That's why AJ is so special and exceptionally good at singing😲 melismas 🎶🎼 Her grandmother is a native Iranian! and was a poet and exceptionally gifted picture painter and Angelina's greatest inspiration for singing jazz music, which she constantly played at home and Angelina could always sing along to!! So again a little background knowledge about Angelina shared with our singing 😲Angel 😇 Bye Carl 👋 have a great week and work and music time 👌greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭 👋🙋‍♂️much Love ♥️ and✌️☮️ and kindness my peace 🙂 !

You need to assess the following: This video is a masterpiece that I have watched more than 75 times. Every time I hear the KORK Orchestra begin playing, I feel a surge of emotion because I know what is coming next: the most amazing rendition of Unchained Melody by the incomparable Angelina Jordan. She has a voice of an angel and a talent beyond words. Unchained Melody Nobel Peace Prize 2023 Some ask why Angelina Jordan would pick Unchained Melody for this event, Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award remains in Iran. One of the most popular and enduring love songs of all time, Unchained Melody, has a surprising origin. It was composed for a 1955 film called Unchained, which tells the story of a man who is incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. He yearns to be free and reunite with his wife and children, who are waiting for him outside. The song captures his emotions of loneliness, hope and longing, and has been covered by many artists over the years, but none in my lifetime of 76 years have conveyed such emotion as Angelina Jordan did at this performance. © Larry D. I don’t know if anyone has written about her past but here goes. Born in Oslo, Norway said she taught herself how to sing by watching KZbin videos (especially Billie Holliday), practiced singing 4-6 hours every day. Went to an after school music program where she was taught how to read music, deconstruct and rearrange songs and vocal coaches taught her how not to damage her vocal cords. Never messed with her techniques, she is totally self taught, according to HER. You are in for a long and pleasant journey, sir. She has also raised over 20 million dollars for children’s charities, which includes the 80,000 dollars for winning Norway’s Got Talent when she was 8 years old, and which will be distributed on January 8th, 2024 when she turns 18 years old. As you can see, Angelina Jordan Astar is more than just another great singer. She is a very special human being, it’s even indicated in the translation of her name!

Well I'm scooped! My goodness, I so appreciate and admired your reactions especially to this one. I'm no where near an expert like you as I cant detect what you detect, but there is something inside of me, that knows a great singer whenever I come across one. Like with AJ last December. After hearing the very first song of hers, what else - "I Put a Spell on You" the ensuing weeks I did a very deep dive into her music. I just could not get enough of her voice! And its been decades since someone has just floored me with their singing. Way back in the early 70's there were 3. Linda Ronstadt, LeAnn Rimes and Janice Joplin. And within a matter of 9 months, this precious songbird and there is another, they have come into my life and I feel truly blessed to come to know of them. I for one am grateful to come across your channel. I greatly enjoy listening to your analysis. I think its brilliant how you thoughtfully, intellectually with heart felt emotions pick up on these nuisances. You have an avid supporter in me for how ever long you keep your reaction channel going. Alright, now that I have buttered you up... lol! its time to suggest the other singing sensation that I came across a few months ago. Her name is Alice Fredenham I tried to look up all your reactions to see if you have reacted to any of her songs and it doesn't seem so. Most reactions, from other reactors, are from her performance on BGT back in 2013. There's 2, first one is the one that's the most watched. She sung "My Funny Valentine". She was 28 years old at the time. She received a standing ovation from the audience and from all 4 judges, including Simon! Actually he commented that she had a voice of "Liquid Gold" Since that performance is already so popular and rest assured in couple days before Valentine's Day I'm going to come back to you and request a reaction to it, the one I would love to have you do a reaction to, because for one its another beautiful performance by her and the other reason you do such a brilliant analysis.... its a black & white studio performance of Prince's "How Come You Don't Call Me? " After her performance on BGT until around 2017, she produced only one album, Under the Covers, and about another 10 more songs, all available on youtube. Then something happened. Alice "retired" from the music industry. And up until now, no official word from anybody close to her, the recording company, no one, as to why? And I think I can speak for all her fans we are all in tears. She's about 38 years of age now and no word of her ever coming back. As much as it pains me whatever the reason, however I personally pray its not a health issue. At least all of us fans have a somewhat limited treasure trove of that incredibly out of this world, actually from the peak of the Jazz era, lovely, sultry voice of hers. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmjCeZmwarmrpLcsi=jhjFnotzcf9d-CXA Happy New Year!

Also are mashups of Angelina with either original artist or instrumental band. Some are truly incredible: ---- Ain’t No Sunshine [was created using 12-year old Angelina’s simple cover and band musicians Hank Roberts (great cello), Brian Wilson (drums), Mike Stark (piano) and Anna Coogan (guitar) who originally performed song for singer Canen, making fantastic composition of this Bill Withers classic 1971 R&B hit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKrdmn2ff5Z7j8k] ---- Crazy (mix of 12-year old Angelina’s 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival audio with two rehearsal videos to make a great rendition of this Patsy Cline/Willie Nelson 1961 hit country song. Amazing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHqcpJKHpZyLlck) ---- I Will Survive (this 1978 disco hit by 35-year old Gloria Gaynor is mixed with 10-year old Angelina’s audio-only track. Whenever Gloria is shown, she is singing. Whenever Angelina is shown, she is singing. Close eyes and tough to tell difference. Mind-blowing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXfZp4x9gJaMgrc) ---- Easy On Me [mix of 15-years old Angelina’s cover video (plus snippets of several other videos) with 33-year old Adele’s music video. AGT Simon First, and foremost; Angelina was not on that show to win. This was quite simply to promote and expose the US public to this prodigy that comes along maybe once in a generation. To win, AJ’s family would have had to sign a contract with Simon, and he would have been in control of her future. Her family would not allow that to happen. It was not question of money offered because AJ was already worth 2 to 3 million at the age of 13, and her family are very wealthy. I am sure America’s Got Talent was paid well by her production company Stargate, the hitmaking duo (Beyonce, Rihanna, Sam Smith). David Foster tried to sign her in the past after she won Norway's Got Talent, but the family did not like the contract. She is like nothing we have ever experienced. People, wake up to reality; do you honestly think for one moment that a talent like Angelina Jordan if competing on AGT would not win if it were legit? AJ is a talent like no other in this world at this time. I am astonished at your naiveté!

I would love to hear your analysis of my favorite performance by Angelina. It's her 16 yo rendition of the classic jazz standard, My Funny Valentine, recorded by all the jazz greats (600+ vocalists). It's not only beautiful, but it is a veritable Masterclass on vocal techniques & control. She literally empty's her vocal toolbox on this one & you will really nerd out on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4WqfZWpfKl0f5I You might want to compare an earlier version when she was much younger to see her growth as a artist. In the 1st performance, she was 9 yo singing live at a concert with sax & piano backing which is my favorite "young" version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3fYZZKZpb5ra5o In the 2nd performance she was 10 yo singing live at her house to a backing track, which is cuteness personified. Most fans prefer this one over the earlier version, but either one will do as a baseline for her. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYuVZntqlpeahqs Her artistic growth over the 6 or 7 years between performances is phenomenal. If you can't do 2 versions in one video, at least do the 16 yo version, as I believe it's the best version ever, by anyone, male or female.

It is tempting when one only has "I Put a Spell on You" as the sole example of Angelina singing before the age of 13 to think that she started out singing in a very bombastic way when she was younger (like a lot of child singers, who just lo-o-o-ove to belt) and then got more "refined" over the years, as she matured. While this (mis-)interpretation is perhaps understandable, it is nevertheless totally wrong. Mind you, I'm not saying you have expressed anything like that in your reactions to her, but I've seen other reacters in your situation come to that conclusion. So… I just wanted to address it. When I first heard Angelina back in late 2014 or early 2015 (near as I can figure), it was her most subtle performances that impressed me the most. Generally speaking, that has not changed over the years. While I can certainly appreciate the talent required to serve up the kind of "barnburners" that tend to get recommended a lot to new AJ reacters (IPASOY included), I appreciate much more her ability to sing a song - any song - the way it "should be sung", regardless of what that entails (and regardless of whether the way she's singing it is at all like how the original singer did it). When I showed my parents Angelina's performance of Nancy Sinatra's version of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" in the semifinals of _Norske Talenter_ [Norway's Got Talent] (one of the first things they heard from her), my mother said, "That's it? She didn't _do_ anything!". What she meant was, there was no loud belting, no ear-spitting high notes, no crazy runs, no prancing around the stage… nothing you might expect from a young singer trying to get into the finals of a TV talent competition. My response to her: "Exactly!"😁 Even in that situation, where the tendency would normally be to choose a "big" song and sing it in a "big" way, she instead chose a rather "limited" song (in terms of its vocal arrangement) just because she liked it, and just sang it "straight" (very much like Nancy sang it). (BTW, I say _she_ chose the song, as opposed to it being chosen for her, because there's a video of her practicing it that was posted to YT _months_ before she even started in the competition.) Anyway, back to my main thesis: Angelina was not only _able_ to sing with a surprising amount of subtlety and sensitivity when she was younger, it's what she _usually_ did. And this characterization applies, IMO, even back to the earliest example of her singing that we have, when she was reportedly 1½ years old. I know you have been told about that, and someday you will have to react to it… just maybe not quite yet. You really need to be more familiar with her singing at various ages to get the full effect of seeing her do some of the same things as a toddler.🤯 At minimum, I would say you should watch at least one of what I call her "live at home" covers on her "CoverChannel" - in particular, I would recommend "Million Years Ago", "Stay", or "Born to Die" - before you watch this earliest performance by baby Angelina (which you can find under the title "NEW: Angelina Jordan singing with Grandma Mery (Age one and a half) #angelinajordan #baby #reaction", posted by "H S" - and just for the record, the other voice heard in the video is not her grandmother, it's her mother).
