We need to know how to bind a quilt to finish a quilt. In this quilting tutorial I have a hack to make binding a quilt fast and easy. We’ve pieced the blocks, made a flimsy, made a quilt sandwich, and quilted it all together. Take the next step and bind so your quilting is finally done. It's not as hard as you think.

Happy Friday...what a week. There are lot of ways to make binding. But before I talk about them, we need to know the basics. If you haven't made yourself a 3-in-1 tool yet, you'll save yourself a lot of headache if you do. Enjoy.

Lol I get so stressed and my neck disappears, I've been clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth...and I laugh and grab a tea, take a break and a breath, and remind myself that it's my first quilt for one of our kiddos! They love it already and it'll be warm usable and washable lol !

What is a quilter's knot? How do I sew the binding down on the back? Do I just sew along the edge (parallel to the edge) or should I sew X's, or perpendicular? What keeps the binding down the best?

Just made mine. Looking forward to using it. Your video made so much sense. I especially like the reason for not pressing your binding in half. I have done that and wondered why I struggled so. I have been quilting for 26years. Love your tips and your channel. Thanks Karen

I wanted you to know that this is the ONLY video I could wrap my brain around. I have tried and tried to learn this method, but I don't see things the way others do. It always looks backwards to me. So, tonight, I stopped and worked frame-by-frame and it WORKED. OMG I am beyond relieved. I'm working on a special gift and just had to have it perfect. THANK YOU from the bottom of my still learning heart.

Thank you for this video! I love the first option where you tucked the tail in to the starting piece. I have been struggling with the fiddly way and get a knot in my stomach every time I have to cut the binding lol. When my quilt group started up 20 years ago...we would cut the binding into 4 .... do the top, do the bottom..square up and cut off extra...then do the other 2 sides....crazy! Now we all do the continuous mitre, but we sew the binding on the back first....turn over,...and machine stitch it down from the FRONT...

I loved the reasoning about how when you fold over the binding one side is a little shorter. Makes total sense! Can't wait for the one on machine binding. I'm too ADD to hand sew the binding. Lol. Love your tips, tricks and strategies! And as per little funky things, I consider them proof that it is a hand made item, like purposely putting a wrong Stuttgart in a knitted item so you can prove it isn't made in a factory. But I do want my quilts to look better.

I just finished binding my first quilt and every problem you said I had. I do not have all the fancy tools so I'm glad you showed me alternative ways. One of them I figured out on my own so it's comforting to see I wasn't wrong. Those pesky corners!!! 🤦

Thank you Karen! I have just finished my first quilt and found this the best tutorial on finishing the binding! A lot of others went too fast and didn’t show how to lay and flip the binding for stitching. Perfect 👍🏼. Great instructions, as usual! You have been a great help in my quilting journey.

You we're a life saver, so to speak, as your reminder about quilt label stopped me forgetting for a third time. This time, I will not be reverse stitching a corner to insert my label. Brilliant tutorial, thank you😀

I've been making quilts for years and I usually stop before the binding because I have always hated the binding step! This is so much easier than how I was taught. Thank you!
