Fangoddess I'm an American and people often think I'm overdressed. It seems just because I don't wear oversized t-shirts nor go around showing too much skin when others do. The other day a co-worker said my style was "very simple". I took it as a compliment though I'm not so sure she meant it that way (as her style is no where near simple).

"Purchase quality over quantity four points". 1. Does that piece fit with at least half of my wardrobe? 2. Will I want to wear that for at least 10 - 20 years or is it something that will will go out of fashion? 3. Can I was it at least 50 times and it's still going to look good and retrain it's shape? 4. Can you go home without buying the piece and if you still want it after 24 hours you purchase the piece?

#1 is because of the size of Paris apartments. Similar problem to New York apartments. Very limited space. So things you buy need to work with your limited wardrobe. Then the biggest accessory is your scarf which you can change easily. Summer or winter everyone (men and women) wears scarves in Paris.

Proper tailoring is so key - and no one cut fits all body types. That's why learning to do quick alterations at home is a game changer. My sewing machine is my best friend and I'm constantly taking in seams, letting out waist bands, hemming cuffs. Sometimes I even make small alterations as part of getting dressed in the morning if what I want to wear doesn't fit quite right. So many great pieces don't need to be returned if you know how to make them really fit your body.

Justine forgot to mention that it helps immensely to be tall and slender when applying the French chic look. I have beautiful skin, high cheekbones, and glossy hair. However, at 5'3" tall, with short legs, and a thick waist, I look more chunk than chic, no matter what I wear. Nice video, though.

JUSTINE! I just wanted to thank you for all your terrific advice. I just last Saturday bought a little black dress... and thanks to you, it's one size larger than I usually buy! I've always been paranoid about what the number sizes say and didn't want to think I was "fat" because the number went up, despite different brands fitting in different ways. This time, in a brand in which I have numerous pieces (capsule wardrobe territory!), I bought a black, sleeveless, slightly flared dress in a totally packable fabric. And it flares even more than it might because it's looser because it's bigger, which means I feel loose and free under it. I could dress it up for a night on the town or wear it as-is for a funeral, throw a (matching!) black jacket on top with a bright scarf for business or a funky belt and bohemian jewelry for window shopping on a destination street. I'm 68 and it's taken me all this time to totally hone in on my style - I had the "bones" but you've helped me focus my aim. Merci, mon cheri! (From Los Angeles)

I have 6 out of 10 of the pieces, but a large reason I don't have more is the same problem! I have been searching for the perfect white tee for YEARS and have come home with a few but most don't really live up to what I am looking for. Same thing with the sweater, the heels, and the other colors of tees... the quality is often poor and if I DO find a high quality item it is often not long enough for my long torso.

3 online brands that have good quality items, but also environmentally friendly and ethical brands are: People Tree, Grüne Erde and Hessnatur. All 3 brands are fairly different from each other, so hopefully you'll find something you like. The prices are between mid-to-high for high-street standard, but the quality is far superior. And people tree does some great sales too, where you can get a summer dress for £30, which is very reasonable.

I do usually apply the take one accessory off when questiong if you've over accessorized. Use that for my clients with decor! From a design meets fashion stand point, I have to agree with all your tips! I truly adore you describe as "Paris style" for my own reasons. I always have a pair or 2, cute flats in my bag. You are a girl after my own style ♡ . I subscribed. Will keep following. I 100% follow the 24 to 48 hours wait when considering an expensive wardrobe piece. If I cannot stop thinking about it, have looked at a bunch of my outfits & find the piece in question has much cross over value; I then know it's worth the purchase. If I don't think about it I know I just saved $ & return time. Thumbs up for coming across approachable, friendly & giving wonderful advice briefly but fully & easy for everyone to grasp. Not overwhelming or intimidating! Great job. I am fan. I'm a bit stir crazed as we all are; so it was fun to find and enjoy your vlog. Keep it up:) looking forward to seeing more. Oh & extra kudos for your LBD explanation! It is very true that LBD does not mean extra short. My fav LBD can fold up in my bag but long sleeved, falls just bellow knee ,exposed back. High neckline. Fitted. Something my gram told me yrs ago always stuck with me "A true fashion forward lady should always only expose 1 area of flesh in a bit of an extreme way at a time." Of course keeping season in mind. I wonder if you agree:) Be well. Stay safe & healthy & of course fashionable! I will stay tuned. Ty.

Dear Justine, I just happened upon your videos and am enjoying them immensely. I wanted to put in my two centimes, as a former professional ballet dancer, I lived in pointe shoes for over three decades and wear a size 41 shoe or in the USA a 9.5, so high heels OUT, pointy toes NO WAY; I should add that I have had four surgeries on my feet, and can no longer wear a loafer(moccasin), a pump or any fully enclosed shoe i.e.: a spectator. My solution has been to wear boots that are half boot/half sandal the back is open as is the toe area(it's very sexy in its own way)the collar/shaft of the boot is about the height of my ankle, so all the cut-outs are like a sexy little dress with cut-outs. I require a stable base so I look for a heel that is a graceful wedge or a squared semi-chunky heel of 2.5" or 6.3 cm if there is a bit of a platform I can wear a 3.25" or 8.25 cm heel. Let's face it nothing gives a woman a more beautiful pitch to the derrière than a high heel. I hope this tip can help other people with foot issues. I have found a few brands of boots(yes I can wear a boot)that work with my high instep and problematic feet: Arche(made in France sold at Nordstrom and a few other places in America, Aquatalia(very fine, well-made boots from Italy also sold at Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Donald J. Pliner (made in Italy and Spain). Lest you think I am rich think again, I buy almost all of the above on eBay or other secondary market sites, once you know how the high-end shoes, boots, clothes fit and which styles work for you(there is a little homework involved)you are then able to pay as little as ten to twenty cents on the dollar for the finest footwear. I always keep wood shoe trees in mine or at the very least use tightly packed newspaper not only maintain the shape but to absorb moisture and if they are suede, brush them regularly with an appropriate suede brush.

Happiness! According to this video, this American is 100% French (my Burberry raincoat is from 1984) and two of my purses (for special occasions are either a Chanel style inherited from my Mom or a Ferragamo that I bought in 1982)! I buy high quality classics always - both new and via resale boutiques, thrift shops and ebay. My wardrobe is now much smaller and always chic! I love your videos and advice; thank you so much!

Having been on all the French so called stylists on u-tube etc. yours is far and away above the others who are often plugging the clothes, earings etc. on Amazon, (the last place I'd go for anything stylish)and wouldn't be seen dead in but everything I see on your channel I love and would wear all and every style that you show. You are the only one I follow now, thank you.

so enjoy your discussing. I have been watching you for over a year and have been able to re look and think about my wardrobe and focus on what is needed instead of what I like. It is important to have a real discussion about "what do you want your style to be", taking control of the LOOK. Thank you so much. Every preteen needs your lessons.

Very wise advice! I score 10 of 10 and completely agree about the 24 hour wait. But sometimes the wait lasts only until I get to the car. If I still want a piece after I have been shopping a while and I've gotten to the car, I sometimes go back to the store to purchase. Justine, you give great advice!

Thank you Justine - this series is soooo good. I appreciate your practicality. Your comments about bags are spot on - so many of us carry our lives around in our bags. I also loved your rules about what to buy as well - and the fact that you do not prioritise style over substance (as so many people/magazines do) is so refreshing. I love your accent - I could listen to you all day!

I did not know my fashion taste is actually more french. I like things simple and elegant. I always prefer basic colored clothes and if possible, no prints, but if there is, just minimal print that can go with anything I pair it with. And your shopping tips are what I’ve been practicing, though I just not buy something right away because of money, but it’s a good tip. It’s true, impulse purchase is bad.
