I've never had a comment on KZbin get so many replies, so thank you to everyone who took the time to do so. I have shared this in a couple of places, back in March when Taylor passed, (and thought long and hard about editing this to share here) but I'd really love if it could somehow reach the band so as to give back some of the love and support their songs gave to me. So here goes... My first daughter was stillborn in 2004, I named her Taylor. The song "Walking After You" pretty much got me through some very, very hard months, years even. I have the lyrics to Learning to Fly, and My Hero on her two memorial plaques at the crematorium. I could go on so much more about other song, and other difficult times in which there was always a Foo's song which got me through. I was fortunate enough to see them live in 2019. It would be really cool to know they know there's a little girl in heaven named Taylor, hopefully hanging out with her namesake. Anyway, if they do stop, I'll be heartbroken, but I'm already feeling that way as nothing and no-one will replace Taylor. I agree with the comment that they didn't sound the same, they never will again, but I did love Travis playing because he's just like Taylor, he throws every atom of his being into drums, and he and Taylor were great friends. ((My original comment below)) I cannot express in words how much I love the Foo's, and I'm very afraid that they might not continue, but I'd understand fully if they don't. Their music got me through many dark times in my life. I owe them a heck of a lot.

Not only the best Foo's song, but one of the best rock songs ever. The multi guitar attack near the end of the song is just fucking face-melting. And I don't care what anyone thinks, but Taylor's drumming on this song is a masterclass of rock drumming; precise, exact and intense...serves the song brilliantly.

@@awh79 I've always enjoyed listening to Taylors playing and picking out the different influences in different songs. The first time I heard Rope I thought "Thats Neil Peart for sure". But this song highlights maybe my favourite part about him as a drummer (other than his big smile) which is that even when he was playing pedal to the floor bombastic rock drums, he was still so damn crisp and precise.

Hi Justin! I was at the Wembley concert and honestly I was so happy to hearing you live for the first time! I grew up in a family where rock music was and still is everything. I was 7 when “I believe in a thing called love” first came out (so yes, when MTV was ACTUALLY playing music - as you said - and I used to spend my after homework time watching videos and learning songs lyrics). Now I’m 26 but still having a crush on you! 😅 Love from Italy ❤️

This reminds me of my first Foo fighters gig. The support acts had finished and everyone was getting excited. Then they started playing that las ketchup song. Then just as it finished the crowd started getting excited, but then they started playing it again… I swear to god it feels like they played it 10 times! They even dimmed the lights at one point as if the band were going to start and then played it for what was to be the final time. We didn’t know this however and as a crowd sat there like, ok dude, you’re just going to play that song again. And then out of nowhere it hit, DUN DUN DUNDUNDUN DUNDUNDUN, curtain drop, lights, blasted by the Foo fighters for the next few hours. Awesome times.

I think many people underestimate the emotional force built into even allegedly "straightforward" hard and fast rock music. Without experience playing along with other decent players, you might be able to play the chords as well as anyone, but intense playing at a fast bpm is incredibly difficult and emotionally demanding without repetition. The first time I played bass with an intense drummer I almost started weeping (Hail Hail by Pearl Jam).

We were on vacation and the kids and I were discussing “bucket list” things. Seeing Foo Fighters live came up. We got online and found a concert we could make a couple months from that time and locked in to the tickets. Two hours into that concert I was standing there thinking, “this is just a LOT of hits to consume in one feast of musical gluttony!” I will never forget that night in Birmingham, Alabama. A lot of their early hits were intense because they were fueled by the raw anger of what happened with Nirvana and the aftermath. I understand why Dave would never want to give up doing what he loved, because he came so close to never having everything he has now. It wasn’t so much about making money that kept FF grinding as it was Dave not wanting to get away from something that he cherished: making great rock that people loved. Not sure that he will be able to go back knowing what that drive to keep rocking cost him. If he does come back, it’s going to probably have to be different musically. We love you though, Dave. You and all the FFs!
