The song was made for Whitney, she recorded it for several hours if not days trying to determine, how should I sing it, what key should I hit, what notes suited my voice the best for this part, etc. So Whitney is always going to soubd better on her own songs. If Whitney sings Celine songs, shes not gonna sound as good as Celine either.

When I think about it it's crazy, I ''know'' her since she began and we saw all her journey. People are talking about her money but she worked damn hard. René was saying to Céline at the beginning maybe we don't have the money but pretend that we are millionaire, and the rest is history

If I remembered well, 1987 she was learning english, she was preparing to sing in english. She was the most popular in french Canada and starting to be a star in France. This was before the USA learned about her.

Awwww OLD OLD Céline she was 19yo in this clip... that is when I truly noticed her... telling everyone around me that IF SHE WAS well managed she would be the biggest STAR. That song is way before she had nodules for the 1st time and then changed her way of signing and not speaking... what we all know her for! Just before unison album, she was still fresh in English.... the commemoration song was pre-recorded and lip-synced as well, the 87 wal fully live when she had again less technique and going full blow all the time with no breaks at all either . Still LUV her, biggest fan from Montréal here.

Celine's voice is higher than Whitney, she sounds more effortless. Whitney wasnt able anymore to sing that song in the original key after a few years, but Celine can sing it till now. I like both versions, Whitney was deeper and Celine sounded brighter and Its just a matter of taste. Two amazing vocalists, Celine sung it in a perfect technically way just like Whitney.

Whitney is a million miles ahead of this. Remember this is 1987. Who heard of Celine at that time? Whitney owned this era. There honestly is no contest. Whitney is so much more pure, clean, powerful, with perfect diction. Her notes are really so much fuller with resonance. The main difference, however, is that Celine is giving a performance, while Whitney is just singing the song because it should be sung. The difference in the ability to emote is the difference between east and west. Whitney was born to do it.

I think everyone knows that this song belonged to Whitney and still does, and that year belonged to Whitney. While Whitney's version is the *best* version, no one can deny that Celine blew the roof with this song. It might be a matter of taste, and preferences, but don't count Celine out. She did the song a little justice, at least. No one can touch Whitney, that's for sure. However, no one can touch Celine either.
