Awesome reaction/analysis :) I'm definitely liking your commentary. I gravitate to the vocals because I love singing and love to study voice, so it's really nice to hear from a musician/instrumentalist point of view. It makes me appreciate the artistry and music more. I absolutely agree this song is awesome, love the dynamics. It's one of the main reasons I love Jinjer, they change it up within a song and from song to song and they are absolutely excellent at what they do (all aspects - vocals, lyrics, composing, instrumentals, etc). Tatiana gets most of the recognition of the switching between styles with her vocals, but the rest of the band is equally as fluid and impressive...all of the band members together make this band so great and unique. Love them all.

That hemiola on the China cymbal in the…pre-chorus (??) is so cool. A good hemiola in a 3 (or 6) based time signature or a song with a strong triplet sub-division is so engaging because it lets you experience two valid metrical perspectives simultaneously.

@inderdawgboost I just got into them, seeing them for the first time next Saturday. I feel the same way. I’ve been around for a while, seen a lot of bands live, including Rush 36 times, and these guys excite me more than any band I’ve heard in a long time. They seem better Live than in the studio, and their albums kill. I’m anticipating a show of Rush caliber, and that’s the ultimate compliment for me. Their talent, dedication and devotion to their art is evident.

This song is by far my favorite of theirs. The syncopated rhythmic transitions and timing shifts are masterful. It’s Funny how myself & every other musician I know have to close their eyes in order to separate instrumental arrangements. The music breakdown was outstanding. The only part that you & I differ on is the vocal segments where you were hearing hints of Rap, I was hearing Reggae. I’m not sure why, that’s just where my mind went.

First time I hear someone talking about Mr Bungle in a reaction video, you have great tastes :D I totally agree with what you said about the importance of rhythm, I'm also pianist, trained in classical and jazz , and I remember struggling with improvisation in jazz a lot, all changed when I realised it doesn't really matter what note you hit as soon as it is in rhythm, it's quite liberating. I love all those bands who play with polyrhythm and/or seamlessly change time signature, and at the same time capable of keeping a great cohesion, complex writing, complex music, but easy to listen and immensely enjoyable. Always nice to hear great technicians serving music instead of using music to show how great technicians they are! (Sorry for my approximate english). Another great reaction, thank you!

My ears always tend to grab a gestalt of a piece, & lyrics almost never stand out in a first listen.... but here when Tatiana pops up spittin bars....! o_O The multi-movement stucture, the brain-engaging choppy angular timings (somehow without losing groove, which I assume must be witchcraft!), the epic chorus, some of the best lyrics I've heard from a heavy band in a while.... all combine to give an impressive package, but the chill section in this one where Roman uses his guitar with long delays & some shimmer to create a dreamy soundscape while my man Eugene comes in with his trademark left-hand-keeping-the-low-end-meaningful-while-the-right-hand-tapping-takes-over-the-main-melody on his bass.... & then Tatiana tip-toes back in with a perfectly tender vocal.... It gets me properly emotional, even after many dozens of listens. And to think that just a minute or two earlier in the same song they had me ready-to-put-someone's-head-through-a-wall -level angry with those blast beat passages!! No wonder this won my song of the year for 2019. p.s. I actually shouted at my monitor for you to look at yours in the closing section so you could see it's Eugene doing a downward rake with his ringfinger to the skinny strings for that extra stab of dissonance! LOL :)

Since you were impressed with Vlad's blast beats in this one, I'd suggest you check out "Retrospection". It's one of their few I'd suggest the official first, even though their live is fantastic and worth a listen after. What Roman on guitar and Eugene on bass do in and around the blast beats in that one is interesting and sounds great. The biggest thing reactors do to mess up pausing is not restarting a few seconds back and missing important transitions. You always back up, so it's all good! But you did look away at crucial times - like when Eugene strummed down hard on the (I believe) "G" string to make that cool but odd metallic bell sound at the end. ;-)

Amazing piece of music! One of their masterpieces! About the vocals, It´s definitely a more "rapping" aproach. She doesn´t do it very often but they thought it would work on this and it really does. Really enjoying your Jinjer videos, very insightful commentary on the music. I´ve been a metalhead for more than 30 years now and it´s been a long time since a band mesmerized me like these guys did and still do, truly special and talented band! You will be flooded with suggestions, all are worth it, but so it doesn´t get overkill I´ll leave my short 2 cents: - Who´s Gonna Be The One" live. Hard as nails banger and an amazing live performance. - "Retrospection" official or live in Melbourne. Just WOW, everything Jinjer just packed in a superb track. - "Sit, Stay, Roll Over" official. Probably their most feroucious, fast and furious track. Killer! - "Judgment & Punishment" official or Tatiana One Take Vocal. A brilliant blend of genres perfectly executed. I guess it´s not that short, but we Jinjer fans (Outlanders) get a bit carried away with these guys :) Keep up the great videos, peace.

Loving your channel! Jinjer is the best band on earth right now. You've got to do their songs "On the Top" and "Pit of Consciousnes" both official videos and live in Kiev, even better if you did double features of both of these songs! Also check out their song "Ape" live at Mystic Festival if you like the blast beats. Hell, just check out every one of their songs while you're at it. You've only just scratched the surface!

Love Love LOVE this band it really has everything. As for the lyrics wait till you dive into them Tatiana is an amazing lyricist with deep and meaningful things to say in every song. Note her voice and vocal styles pair up with lyrical meanings within the song. They also mesh perfectly to the music. So damn glad they are back on tour this year pumped to see them again live.

Yes, it's the bass - you would've actually seen it when you would've kept your eyes on the video. lol The lyrical message of this song is about questioning authority. Because not everyone in a position of authority actually deserves to be in that position, has it all figured themselves, or even your best interest in mind. I suspect this song is somewhat influenced by Pink Floyd's Another Brick in The Wall, due to somewhat similar meanings and a lyrical overlap ("Please teacher, teacher, leave us alone" vs "Hey! Teacher! Leave them kids alone!").
@JWSoundworks2

Yeah I'd need to listen again to focus more on the lyrics. I did pick up the odd chant here and there that actually reminded of that Pink Floyd song too. Didn't mention it though.

Dude, it's so validating when actual musicians love a band/song as much as I do! I don't know jack shit about the actual music making process, I just know what I like when I hear it. It's cool seeing people who know how the sausage is made pick apart songs, and finding out that they love it for the same reasons that I didn't have the musical language/knowledge to articulate. I'd love to see you do "I Speak Astronomy", seems like it gets a bit overlooked in the usual lineup of Jinjer reactions. The music video is great, though there's sadly not a great live version on KZbin, at least not that I can find.

Yes! Spot on! There's not a single word you said that I don't agree with 100%. I discovered Jinjer about a year after King of Everything was released. They are now my favorite band. I have all their recordings with the exception of an early EP. Their first full album, Inhale Don't Breathe, is a far different sound from their latest recordings. This band has evolved tremendously.

@@JWSoundworks2 well he's an amazing artist his music is eye opening if you're not a troll he's a rapper and musican tom is not signed to a label so he can do what he wants. His girlfriend Nova Rockafella does all the video work and is an artist as well. They do everything out of their house everything. He has many different types of music but with a hip hop flow to his lyrics. Try his new single no good bastard. Then we can go down to rabbit hole with people so stupid, clown town, no lives matter. And many more cancer is a emotional song like I said he's versatile. Anyway peace from Alaska.
