Marko's wntire reaction at the end just crushes me. The "big brother" totally loving and appreciating his "sister" just melts me into a puddle. There is so very much respect between these two, which in my opinion, is why Nightwish is so magical. The whole band feels this way toward each other. Thanks for sharing your reaction, Jynger. If you haven't seen it, Floor singing Oi Jouluyö (Oh Holy Night) in concert while she was pregnant has to be right up on the top of the Xmas songs. She doesn't sing it in English, but her voice transcends any language barrier on this one. It brings a tear to the eye every time I watch it.

"Raskasta Joulua" is Finnish and means "heavy Christmas". They have recorded traditional Christmas carols and Christmas hits in a heavy metal style. Raskasta Joulua tour is a big tradition in Finland nowadays - every year there is a two-hour TV broadcast of the tour on Christmas Eve. The lineup usually includes Finland's most famous heavy metal artists and many guest stars from other European countries: Marko, Tarja, Noora (Battle Beast), Floor, Elize Ryd (Amaranth),... Marko is on the tour again this year.

I thought for a minute that you had become immune to Floor and Marco’s singing. Nope! There was definitely leakage at the end! There is some magical about the two of them together. Wether it’s metal or ballads they always bring it. Whenever I hear Ave Maria or the operatic part of Shoemaker I sit there blubbing like a baby, which is embarrassing as I’m an old fart! As usual a great reaction.

I highly recommend Christmas Truce by Sabaton as stepping stone towards a member of that band, Tommy Johansson. He's the lead guitarist of Sabaton, but he also has a band of his own as a vocalist called Majestica and they have done a whole Christmas Powermetal album. Not only that, but Tommy has been doing covers on his own youtube channel, including his own version of an Advent Calendar. Every day in December from the 1st to the 24th, he's putting out a new Christmas cover. I know it's almost over at this point but it is absolutely still worth checking out. He's got a phenomenal vocal range to the point where people call him the male Floor Jansen, in that he can sing whatever he wants. And he's also a multi-instrumentalist. He produces all of his backing tracks in his covers, and he's even done some of Floor's cover's backing tracks. Sabaton is a metal band that does songs on real historic battles so they're very much a storytelling metal band. I'd start with Christmas Truce, a song about a true event that happened at a battle in 1912 during WW1, where on Christmas day both sides stopped fighting against the orders of their superiors and exchanged gifts, tended to their wounded, and put off fighting just for Christmas. kzbin.info/www/bejne/foHHeZ5-qNF5f7c (Stick around for the credits, Floor sings the credit vocals. She's married to Sabaton's drummer so she's close to the band.) I know I just hit you with a lot there but between Tommy and Sabaton's content, they'll keep you busy with fantastic stuff for a loooong time. Look forward to seeing if these end up in the list.

It's long been a belief of mine that the best bands or artists at performing ballads are metal groups, and I feel this proves my point. No surprise, really, as metal bands are proper musicians. A heartwarming performance from both Marko and Floor, who looked stunning. As you are concentrating on Christmas songs, may I be so bold as to suggest Christmas Truce, by Sabaton? I checked you playlist, and I don't think you have reacted to it. As you probably already know, Hannes Van Dahl, Sabaton's drummer, is Floor's husband, so there is a Nightwish connection. Originally, this song was entirely in Latin, which is how Marko and Floor started. However, they switched the language after the famous bit.
