I am mainly a drugstore girl, sometimes mid tier, but my biggest complaint is that there’s not enough mucky grungy colors at the drugstore or even mid tier. I’m tired of getting the same old “mauve” blushes that at the end of the day are really just pink. It really just makes me wonder if these brands think we are that boring to not want more

Indie brands are just miles ahead of mainstream brands with the photos of their swatches. They’re literally showing the actual products on real skin with no retouching. They’re showing eyeshadow swatched on eyelids. That’s what I want to see instead of photoshopped swatches.

Omg I just noticed, you accidentally signed a sort of naughty word in ASL at the beginning of this 😂 😂 😂 the "ok" sign that Americans use is close to "f" in ASL. If you had done that sign with both hands (instead of just one), with the fingertips tapping each other, you would have said "fucking," as in sex, not the adjective. When I was first into makeup I went crazy for liquid lipstick and bought every color of every brand at the drugstore, along with all the other lip products in gloss, shine, satin and matte products. And with experience, I realized how desert dry and textured all liquid lipsticks made my lips look and I just didn't love that. Plus, I love reapplying thought the day, so where's the fun in not getting to do that!
@moonelf2959 Жыл бұрын

Lol I need mostly low contrast lippies, and I am loving these new matte liquid lips. The shades are never quite right, but I layer them over stains, usually with a very muted, blotted application, and i love that they last when I am doing an event or giving a presentation. I bought some matte stains on clearance, I was so bummed when they turned out to be liquid lipsticks, but really am loving the formulas and the possibilities for color combos. I tend to pop on lip spf on top of everything, so it's more of a satin finish in the end, which seems to be flattering and easy.

I'll maybe buy a $50 lip gloss if someone can miraculously make a milky one (especially if it's a nude peachy color a la Britney circa 2000) that lasts all day, is hydrating and the pigment doesn't gather in the lines on our lips (not fine lines from age, but just regular lines most of us have). I like the milky glosses from NYX, tho, just wish glosses lasted longer, I'm too forgetful to put more on.

I have bought 2 of the Lisa Eldridge lip glosses (Decade and Myth), they are absolutely beautiful, but also so balmy and nourishing. Also, KVD liquid foundation is for oily/combo skin, and apparently the balm is for dry skin. Also, can't most people just use a blow dryer and a brush?

Plein air? As in painting outdoors ? Use it a lot in the watercolour community 😛. Thanks for speaking out on shades and the selfish comments for MAC. In South East Asia I was a minority but that didn’t take away from the fact that it would bring me to tears never finding a shade for my NC 40 skintone. That feeling of being overlooked /invisible is pretty debilitating. It’s only makeup but the message it gives is terrible. I was so happy to move to the US because I was like ‘finally I will find shades to suit me!’

Omg lol, I figured I had been taught the pronunciation wrong, when she said "pline" air, she's a working artist and I live in the sticks, but I am relieved now. 20 white shades, 4 medium and 2 dark is completely inexcusable. It's ridiculous that companies still don't acknowledge the nuance and depth in brown and black skin... 🤦♀️💚🖤 Edit: I'd also like to point out with blushes, bronzers, highlighters, eyeshadows: white and light skinned people can make most products for dark skin work for them. The same can't be said the other way around. I bought the second to darkest shade in the Haus Labs blush and can use a light hand. I actually do that a lot with blush because the light, flat colors don't really work (I can make them work but I'm good on that). I like to look slightly sunburned... I said the same thing! For $95 a weiner better give me a good time. Wait... I'm NOT putting my lip products on or near my vagina! 🤣

There is also something great in products dedicated for deep skinned people. True bronze. I am pale like I was living in an eternal winter land, lol, but I buy bronzers for deep skin because they are really brown (with red undertones), and don't come as orange or golden, or almost green like those for light skinned people. I just use tiny bit. It will last forever. My go to is Mented Vacay bronzer. It's very soft and blendable.

Fun true story. So japan is a pretty homogeneous society. To the point that drug store brand foundations have an average of 4 shades. That’s right, Japanese drugstore foundations come in 4 shades of beige. That’s it. But brands like MAC, Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown do exist in Japanese department stores and obviously have darker shades available. They’re usually only available for purchase online, but it’s still available. So while we may rag on MAC, Bobbi brown or Laura Mercier for their poor range here in the USA, for a dark skin toned person in Japan, they’re a lifesaver.

@GiNgErSnAp-bh7eq Жыл бұрын
Don't send me to federal prison for this thought process, but I have questions when it comes to darker toned complection products and why they dont sell. This is solely because I live in a "poor" small town and yes there isn't alot of truly deep skinned people here but there is probably 60% Latino and Asian and our options for makup are walmart, Marshall's and Ross. That being said, there are always tons of deeper shades on the shelf, especially at Marshall's which is where makeup goes to die and is at a huge discount but even for drugstore, it's always there. So my question is, are the undertones so off that they don't get purchased, is the culture less inclined to wear makeup, is the economic reality not allowing for unnecessary purchases? Like I'm really trying to wrap my head around why these shades do not get purchased when the actual skin tones of people living here skew medium and medium deep. Also, can I just say my Walmart is atrocious at keeping their one isle of makup stocked. If I drive an hour away, walmart has 3 isles and they are packed with all the things. It's so frustrting. Sorry, that was kind of 2 thoughts but more the point being, where I live, pale shades are never available in stores and medium and deep shades are. No prison, just thoughts.
@Alex-tk7gh Жыл бұрын
Exactly, the dark shades are always fully stocked. I live in Arizona where we have all types of people with all the shades you can think of and the only complexion products that are always fully stocked are the dark shades.

I take your point. What would have been a better way to phrase it? I'm speaking as a woman for whom penises enshrined in chrome being sold as makeup feel kind of menacing and symbolic of dick=power. I understand your point, but they still have that meaning for me. Especially detached from a body. it's complicated.
