@@Lunolent Yes it sucks if a deck you like isn't strong enough for the "intended" way to play isn't viable but it's completely backwards saying you can't build your own deck. Bystial Runick won a YCS a few weeks ago and wasn't even conceptualized as a deck. I play a pile of ABC Vaalmonica and have a ~40% win rate vs meta. You can absolutely build your own deck but the argument would be like saying that I can't build a deck with La Djinn because meta decks have 1900 Normal Summons. Yeah it sucks that some decks become unplayable but you can absolutely build your own deck it just requires at looking at the pool of cards you think are strong. I know ABC(2016) itself isn't strong but Vaalmonica(2023) let me use the fact that ABC pieces aren't OPT to loop them. Meta Deck's also aren't just a pile of every Archetype card released in the newest set you have to figure out how many you can get away with, if some are only one-ofs or three-ofs and what other generic/archetypes can you mix in to make them stronger than the sum of their parts. Promethean Princess a game changer Link-3 for Fire decks has retroactively made Swarmship Amblowhale (2019 Link-4 pack filler) a strong card because of its unintentional Synergy with her. The reason a "meta" exists at all is because the best players built, tested and refined their decks I.E. they're doing the same thing as you.

to be fair, Kaiba is a genius and if the design is simple, it probably wouldn't take longer than a day to make the design itself. It's when you start wanting stuff that basically looks like it should be impossible that things get crazy (some buildings have to have counter-weights in their center or they will topple over in any wind conditions ). One building had to pretty much replace every bolt in a skyscraper because the maker had used bolts not certified for wind conditions above X miles per hour (which could basically come every year in that area)

Kaiba is a traumatized insane genius. He also has a superiority complex which drives him even further to the edge. Atem challenged him as a leader, Yugi challenges him as a strategist, magic dangles things he feels the need to own in front of him. All three push Kaiba further into his spiral by challenging his delusion of being in control and the best. It's why we see Kaiba basically implode on himself as the series goes on and especially in DSOD.

Sent trading cards into space to infuse energy into them in an attempt to create new monster spirits and following Kaiba Corp into 5Ds either was partially responsible or fully responsible for the initial development of momentum technology. DSOD had Kaiba use momentum to power a recreated magical artifact to access the Egyptian afterlife to fight Atem. He either died or came back, likely having lost and caused everything above to happen.

Knowing the nonsense in Yugi's deck, there are easily a dozen different permutations of draws where his entire hand is 5-star+ monsters. Jack's Knight, Dark Magician (Of Chaos/Girl), Summoned Skull, Berfomet, Gaia the Fierce Knight, all of his ritual monsters, Buster Blader, Catapult Turtle, all three god cards, Valkyrion, The Tricky, Curse of Dragon. Not even counting Red-Eyes Black Dragon he borrowed from Joey. If anything, getting 20 brick hands in a row isn't an anomaly, it's just statistics averaging out at that point.

You could add in floodgates (like Stun Labrynth), but that's just normal stun with extra steps. Or you could rely on your resource engine to outgrind your opponent (like salads of old, strikers, lab, etc). If we are to share our opinions on what makes a good yugioh duel, then to me that would be forcing me out of my comfort zone to adapt on the fly with tools I have. And because of that duels between grindy control decks (preferably rogue) are my favourite part of yugioh.

Funny thing is, he used Gorz in the manga (though without its effect), so ending his turn without doing anything could actually be a valid play for him. That just adds to Kuba's torture, as Kyiba can never know if Yugi truly bricked or is planning on using Gorz, forcing Kqziba to always just try it anyway. Outside of flashbacks, Jaden's mom was manga-exclusive though (like Joey's dad who appeared in DSOD because DSOD follows manga canon instead of anime canon) Though given how missing dads have gone in Zexal and Arc-V after 5D's where Yusei actually was an orphan, it really makes you wonder about Yugi's and Jaden's dads.
