That looked like a fun drive. I've casually been looking at getting a B7 RS4, and the potential understeer has always concerned me. However, this made it look rather mild. Audi looks to have set the car up reasonable well to not have it be much of a problem. To those who whine about understeer, yes the front heavy, engine in front of the front tire thing plays a role, but suspension setup, the brake bias, and awd configuration will all do well to control the handling under braking, steady state, and acceleration. You'll use more front tire typically, but if you don't mind that, meh, it's all good. Just plan for it. As well, a good driver will modify his driving inputs to optimize the capabilities of the car. It's not difficult to work around understeer when you know what works. I found the heel-toe comments funny. I'm always curious who actually does it with their own cars when they comment. Who does it racing, does it under normal use, and who understands what you're doing and when you may or may not want to do it. Also, it's tough to tell from a video what the driver's doing. Depending on the pedal layout, the physical movement to blip the throttle under braking may not be visually noticeable. It may also be hard to hear via the video because the off-load engine sound is pretty quiet. The exhaust note only comes on when under load. He did both avoid heel-toe and did heel-toe in various situations depending on what made sense for what he was doing. You can see him taking both methods in the video. Heel-toe is typically not as useful under light deceleration or even mild braking events. Depending on the car, it can be very difficult to perform light braking inputs while throttle blipping depending on pedal sensitivity and placement. The heel-toe is more suitable under heavier braking events where you can put some weight into the brake pedal and more freely modulate the throttle. A lot of the delicate work is better of done through light braking and/or engine braking (including engine/transmission mismatch (there are reasons to do this on purpose for weight shift and handling changes)). There's a lot better control and predictability this way. If you don't feel like plowing into a wall, predictable is a nice choice.

Jesus! I'm watching the video thinking... Damn this RS4 hauls ass! Then I see that there's three people in the feaking thing! lol. If you ditched the two passengers you'd have at least 400+ pounds taken out of the car, if not more, and it was still pulling like a monster. That's impressive! Nice driving as well!!

IrishChris1979 there are roots and centrifugal kits for the RS4. JHM has a vortech kit that would work great in the upper rpm range. I wish I could take our RS4 on this track but I'll have to settle for Miller Motorsports Park.

I don't know if one is even available in the aftermarket for this car, but can you imagine an RS4 with an 8-10 psi Centrifugal Intercooled Procharger Supercharger system lol. They love the high rpm's being that's where they make most of their power... With 8000 rpm to play with, this car with a procharger would be an absolute rocket ship! Especially between 6000-8000 rpms. I'd like to go for a ride in something like that.

I'm one of them. First the video quality is poor (too much light outside, bad balance), but the worse part is actually the driving. You can say what you want but the only reason he didn't crash is because this is a VERY good car. Playing with the gas in the middle of every single bend messes up the car balance and on a real racing car you just fly away. Is one of the very first things you have to learn when you do certifications. Entering the track in first gear kicking in the gear while the car is moving is another example. Not a troll, not jealous and not a keyboard tiger. I do work in motorsports, I'm looking at those videos to have some more ideas for a "new" car and I know quite well the Nurburgring, so please don't even start... I'm honest, bad driving on a very very very good car.
@1974mazdarx3sedan8 жыл бұрын
haha lighting? settle down, it's a great vid to watch and a decent time. the car is a big reason why it's a good watch and having a driver like this pedal it around is enjoyable for an even greater numpty like me. from the sounds of it your standards and experience are at a point where you're jaded and can't enjoy something like this.

+Kais3r2001 Bonjour ;-) Just FYI the trip went well and the car was easy to drive indeed. Stock heavy comfort seats were not very supportive however :D It was the first time I ever drove the car on a racetrack so I was happy with an 8:06 BTG with a heavy passenger on board. Some better laps were killed with slow cars that did not move over (optimal of all best sectors over 8 laps was 7:53). Next time I try to fit light racing seats at the front and solve the brake feel hopefully. There seemed to be some air inside which we could not get out with regular bleeding. First 1/3 of the brake pedal was very soft all the time.

Joli temps!!

Your downshifts are awful, you need to learn how to heel-and-toe. Every time you hit the brakes before a corner and then failed to match your cog speeds before changing down, I feared you would unsettle the car and careen off the track. And it takes an awful lot of very bad driving to upset a B7 RS4. I haven't just decided to be a hater though, so congrats on a fast time - but sort your driving out dude, otherwise your relationship with that car will be a short one.
