Vibrant young crowd. My young adult kids would love it. Hopefully we get a chance to explore it together in the early fall. With so many great travel options in Greece it's difficult to chose where to go. Thanks for making our choice a bit more difficult 🙂

Excellent. It seems that the city has less graffity than other towns in Greece (Patras, big issue there); cleaner in general; good lighting and more upmarket - correct or illusion? Looking at place to retire and you warned me off Patras (well you expressed your love of Kalamata), so took your advice and you are convincing me. Love the flat topography of the place as knees will give way one day. Looking at walking/E-biking and dumping the car - using the bus to travel longer distances, so Kalamata is looking ever more interesting. Now need to look at real estate (rent first to get a lay of the land & buy later). Ever want to do a video on the best areas to live for retirees (...one can dream)? Keep up the great work! 🙂

Correct, Kalamata is a fab place, relaxed vibe, good coastline, excellent shopping. The only place to rival it in the Peloponnese is Nafplio, but that is smaller and far more touristy.

What are your thoughts about someone in their 30s, single, working remotely, looking for a slower pace of life to North America living in Kalamata? From my research seems like a great place.
@GreeceExplored
@GreeceExplored Жыл бұрын
Kalamata is great, I would love to live there, for several reasons, 1. it is open all year round. 2. It has fantastic shops and restaurants, all year round, 3. it has the beach and seafront, in the summer, 4. it is large enough to support your needs and has history, weather and transport to Athens if you need. 5. There is an airport (in the summer). I think it is ideal as a remote working location, if you dont want Athens it is probably top 3 with Nafplio and Patras, but I would choose Kalamata, The place has a vibe, relaxed and fantastic. Go for it!

@@GreeceExplored Sounds great! My research has been showing a lot of older expats and retirees moving to Greece. I'm hoping that Kalamata has people within my age range to connect with.

I think there is definitely an expat community there, but I don't know them, it is what I miss, I live in a small seaside town, lovely, but very Greek, I am the only English in the village!@@otisgreymusic

Thanks for the video. I was wondering what the quality of life and the cost of living there is.
@GreeceExplored

Personally I think the Quality of life is good, and though prices have risen like the rest of Europe, value for Greece is also good, unless you want to live in the countryside!

I'd go with the reed explanation of the name, as I've always been told that kalami roughly translates to bamboo, and there's plenty of that around outside the city.
@GreeceExplored

I agree, I think it is more likely, especially as the first reference to 'Kalamata' dates to about the 10th Century.

@@georgepr242 My wife used to holiday in Koroni every August for a month in for a decade, 82 to 92! I have recently filmed a video there with her, but have yet to edit and publish it - early June I think. She loved the harbour and the promenade, and the Pizza place there.... she dated a waiter there I think.
